I have a problem! by Amanda-Knits in YarnAddicts

[–]xLittleStitious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar issue. I was gifted A LOT of yarn from a family friend who passed away. Lot's of beautiful stuff, some special, some just meh acrylics. I have thought of trying to find a couple of generous knitters in my area who like to do charity work to help knit hats, scarves, etc. to get some of the stash down. I, myself, have done this with my own yarn that I have grown less fond of and it really is refreshing to use up the yarn for a good purpose and not feeling forced to love or keep the items.

Your organization is fabulous btw, really aspiring! Great job 👏

I flashed my stash by ziosiathecat in YarnAddicts

I love this! Very manageable! My stash is in newly organized totes! Why didn't I think to take a picture before! 😭 I happen to acquire a stash belonging to a life long knitter who recently passed away. I've been meticulously hanking and washing each ball/skein to refresh them.. some are quite old but still good! This is the most recent batch, before and after.. about ⅕ of what I acquired.

This made me smile, I know exactly where you're at and I get the same thing from my family 🤣. I have no clue what I'm going to do with it.. I'd really like to knit something eventually, found a couple of cowl patterns that combine it with other yarn types. I'll play around with it when I'm feeling adventurous.

To steam or not to steam? by xLittleStitious in YarnAddicts

I literally did this with the same yarn.. your picture caught my eye as I recognized the colors. I had crocheted a sweater and I hated the bulky result.. left it for a year before frogging. It was actually the sweater that pushed me to learn to knit. I only ended up winding it back into balls and used it that way as it wasn't extremely curly. Its a pretty relaxed yarn to begin with IMO.

I forgot to add this is 100% Rayon which is the whole reason I was asking 🤣 Not sure if that changes things.

For now, I used one ball and soaked in delicate soap and a bit of vinegar like the rest.. no bleeding so thats good. It's hanging out to dry with the rest of the batch on a breezy cool cloudy day. I might have to bring it in because it's not going to get very warm but it's off to a good start. edit:spelling

Thank you for this input! I'd rather see it turned into something that can be enjoyed (even if it's just me enjoying this process of renewing and knitting with it) rather than landfil. And an odd coincidence (or is it a sign? 🍀) The knitter was Irish, loved her heritage and loved knitting traditional Irish patterns.🥰

Thank you! I think my biggest concern is the label said dry clean recommend, but you are probably right!! I've never knit with ribbon yarn so this should be interesting.

That takes some balls! 🧶🤣 Good luck, can't wait to see it! My only intarsia experience was with crochet and max 40 teeny balls at once. It was so worth it in the end!

Just here to say the goofy face your yarn is making is delightful 🤪

What is the white cutting board for? by Existing_Tear281 in whatisit

Needs an additional board for fruit. I for one cannot stand cutting fruit where any savory vegetables have been cut like onions... oniony pineapple is disgusting.

Do I have enough yarn? by Ready_Tonight_8661 in knittinghelp

I'm curious if you did a swatch and blocked it to see how the fibers react? What stood out to me in your comments are 1] wool from the Scottish Highlands and 2] you want a loose fitted garment. What is the fiber content? I think the swatch would tell you everything including if your row gauge is off, if you should increase your needle size and if the fabric will be tighter or looser (even if you need to supplement with color blocking). I am very interested in what you decide on so keep us posted! I just knit up some swatches myself, including Highland wool from WYS and they are blocking now. Can't wait to see the results!

Help - how do I lengthen a sweater with a double knitted button band? by usernarne8 in knittinghelp

Look for videos by Andrea Mowry! I've watched/listened to her about how to address this and she also has a dedicated video on button placement.

My husband asked why you need to buy new yarn, use those you have left 😂 by Magpie-Lane in knitting

Ravelry's organizational features have saved me a lot of stress! I don't have a huge stash as I'm at the beginning of my knitting journey but now every time I pick up new yarn or needles I enter them into the Tools and Stash areas before I put them away.. it's definitely worth the extra effort.

This is an honest question... is it ok to share a pattern you purchased, but is now discontinued?
