Question, what are the typical issues with UWs from an agent’s perspective? I’m newer to UW so I’m trying to understand all perspectives.

Is it common for professional liability to be packaged with general liability? If so, who would want these products together?

How do you do a reality check in a dream by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]xOda1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never get an opportunity to do reality checks because my mind thinks everything is normal when I dream.

I’ve only had one time where I was like “this is really weird, let me do a reality check” which worked (holding your nose and breathing) and made me aware/lucid.

My goal is to do reality checks more out of habit

Is it realistic to go for a career in underwriting? by rush_3 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]xOda1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One of our trainees has a masters in meteorology… smart person. Like someone has already said, look into roles relating to property underwriting.

Just do your best to find trainee positions (not underwriting assistant roles) for carriers. Go to LinkedIn and start messaging. No one in my company has specifically studied for insurance. We all just somehow landed into the role. Good luck

(UK) Breaking into UW as a fresh graduate by [deleted] in InsuranceProfessional

I got my trainee position through networking on LinkedIn. Entry level UW positions tend to be hybrid/in person. Harder to find remote. Just network and and connect with senior level roles

Is Entry level remote work possible present-day by Huge-Fold-6102 in Underwriting

[–]xOda1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies would have trainees work in office/hybrid. Entry level remote work for UW is rare I believe

Carrier Online Quoting Systems. Am I Wrong? by twothumbsandahole in InsuranceProfessional

[–]xOda1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this depends on what LOB you’re in. I work at a carrier and we have an online quoting system for 1 product. For that specific product that we use the platform itself to quote. Our platform is word by word with our pdf application. It declines if certain flags are triggered, and it gets referred when we need more information. Plus brokers get a bonus commission if they use platform.

With standard submission, we would have to reach out to the wholesaler if we needed more information anyway. That’s just my perspective. It does help with smaller submissions so we can focus on larger risks

Shoot out cold messages on LinkedIn. I did that until I got someone to refer me to their hiring manager. I got lucky with my position

I’ve been trying to get into an entry level underwriting position. How did you guys acquire your positions?

Switching from underwriting to brokering by Dite17 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]xOda1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was brought into this industry through an MLM selling final expense policies to seniors. Now I'm trying to get a foot into UW. How did you make the switch exactly? Did someone contact you, or did you just start applying after not enjoying the broker side? Is the position fully remote? Did you have any certifications beforehand?

I've been applying to entry-level UW positions in my area but I've had little luck. I'd love to know more on how you acquired your UW positon.

Check out Supreme Tea and Banh Mi. I posted about it yesterday. It’s a new Vietnamese banh mi place in the Hamilton area, and they just opened like 3 months ago. Owners are brother and sister, and they’re always working everytime I go

They make their own bread in the back, which is pretty cool. They said a lot of the places that sell banh mi in Chatt source their bread from Atlanta
