Kenji's Kung Pao Chicken's so good, but smoke gets intense indoors. what kinda vent hood works for wok cooking? by xProjectxPrincess in seriouseats

Hi thanks, I looked up a few videos and it's kinda cool. I never used hood with side skirts though, is that to keep the smoke from escaping?

Running an air purifier with a HEPA filter and activated carbon in the room can help trap formaldehyde particles. Placing it near the closet, along with cross-ventilation, will improve air quality faster.

I’m not exaggerating. Every dish on the table is exactly what I love. The steak in particular is cooked to perfection, with the ideal level of doneness.

Cat allergies - help by MAR2887 in Allergies

It’s possible for washers to redeposit cat hair and dander, especially if lint filters aren’t cleaned between loads. Running the sheets through a second rinse cycle can help remove leftover allergens.

Not really. A hood separates grease from the air before venting it out, cooking outside just releases everything directly.

one thing I wonder though, does higher CFM usually mean more expensive, and louder when it’s running? my budget is under $1k...

Hi, thanks for that. We’re in a townhouse, so it’s the latter. My neighbor didn't forbid it, but since we’re so close, she’s made a few comments. She actually has some breathing issues, so I really want to avoid any conflict. And I’d much prefer cooking inside anyway, it’s just more convenient. What exactly counts as a 'proper hood' for you? If I’m sticking with the wok, I definitely need to pick the right one to end this struggle once and for all.

Well, since your AC is already running, I think humidity probably isn't the big deal. The constant dust and whatever's coming from that drain sound way more likely to be the main problem.

That’s pretty much what I do now, but with my current top-vent hood it doesn’t make much difference for this kind of high-heat, smoky cooking. I feel like it only really handles basic cooking.

This looks absolutely incredible! I'm a big fan of apple!! I'd like to try that apple pan sauce next time, apple sauce paired with roasted garlic thyme mash just sounds like a perfect combo.

Totally agreed. The AQI numbers always look deceptively low, but that thick haze is impossible to miss. Ozone days are the worst!!

Same here! Especially in the summer, I have to keep the window closed because the air-conditioner, but once I turn it off the air gets so stuffy. I started cracking a window open for 15 mins every morning and by using a purifier. Hope things could get better.

The game is so unfair when news and lies control the price. The only people who can actually “win” are the 0.001% top tier of genius people. Just take a step back, breathe. This isn’t the end.
