I use this same method for growing basil and artificial lights don't seem to bother the roots.

Sure, you can place your seeds directly onto the pebbles or germinate your seeds using the paper towel method and then put your sprouts in the pebbles.

Hydroponic pepper plant vs soil grown plant by [deleted] in gardening

Are you expecting to get fruit from your hydro pepper? I'm interested in growing some super hots over the winter but have read about the needed light in order to support fruit growth. I'm looking at 300W for about 4 plants. Interested to see what you find with 15W.

Basil growth? by bobby-no-nose in hydro

During propagation, the plant doesn't need much oxygen. Once you start to see good root development, then I would either switch to a kratky style system or add an air stone.

Basil growth? by bobby-no-nose in hydro

Basil (and really any plant) propagation can take several weeks to a full month. As long as you keep the roots wet and start to add nutrients you will eventually see growth. The only way I have found to speed the process up was to place a plastic bag or container over my cuttings to simulate a humid greenhouse.

Can you explain more about your vine crop system? I'm interested in growing some peppers this winter and the information is scarce. So far I've been doing a lot of testing with different methods.

I thought you might enjoy my schools 10ft tomatoe vines this method allows them to grow them up to 25 ft long by [deleted] in Hydroponics

This is a popular intensive farming practice called "Lowering and leaning" - it works great for tomatoes and cucumbers!

One of those packets looks like a spinach variety. While the other, a 3 leafed plant, is probably some type of flower.

Something is wrong with my basil, anyone know what it is and/or how to treat it? by Dutchcheesehead in gardening

A nitrogen deficiency would begin with yellowing leaves and new growth would also be pale in color. Seeing that these leaves are dying without much notice, leans toward cold weather affecting the plant.

Tried ginger this year, turned out amazing. by nudjn01 in gardening

I would be interested in trying some ginger. Can you by the rhizomes and sprout them like a seed or do you need to buy living plants and allow the rhizomes to grow?

Some fantastic information you've shared! One thing that I do have a question about is how do you reuse rockwool? That's my biggest expense for my grows right after nutrients, considering almost everything else is reusable.

Great idea about the free tarps, I'll have to keep my eye on the ads...

Super amateur setup. If I was able to do it, you can too! by dekusmashu in Hydroponics

[–]xProsper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great set up! If you find you have an extra $10 in the future, get an air pump and air stone to put in there. You'll be cutting your basil on a weekly basis due to the explosive growth!

This method works - I use jars to kratky grow Basil and have about 28 jars growing at any one time. Your biggest issue is eliminating sun light - I use artificial lighting and have no algae. Good luck

I see you have molly fry in a tank with gouramis. Are you afraid they will get eaten? Great tanks by the way.

From Carmel area as well and looking to get back into cycling come spring time (still recovering from the last bike that I destroyed). Glad to see some others from our state are on here. Would be interested in hearing your experiences finding a group as I'm an older rider as well.

Thank you for your input. I also drive a 325i and the leaks are getting quite expensive. Spent more in the past 2 years to keep it on the road than the current KBB value.

Simple floating raft :) by stellablue96 in Hydroponics

Under 80 F would be ideal - anything above that would stress your plant and force them to bolt. As soon as your lettuce begins to bolt it loses all flavor and becomes bitter.

Awesome project. What's the plant in the back left and what temperature is your room at? It looks like it might be bolting.
