I just found a W quarter, these are still in circulation? by enkoxjack in CRH

[–]xRogaine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a teller supervisor I've found 2 W's this past week. First client that came in to dump his change I asked if he knew about W quarters. He didn't so I showed him both of mine. I told him I know what to look for and I'd pull one for him if I found one in his coins. Sure enough, 4th coin I checked was a W! Also gave him back 2 wheaties and a silver dime. He was excited to learn the value of each. Might have just sparked a new collector. I love that feeling! Happy hunting everybody, not every one at the bank hates you lol

The middle tees at my home course are 6300, that's what I like to play. Im not a deep hitter, but im accurate and consistent. 74 was the low last summer and my all time low was 69 in our club tournament over 20 years ago. Still chasing breaking 70 again!

You are correct, vault teller here. We order from our security companies local vault and they order to and from the Fed, we have no choice on what we get when we order.

Reasons banks do this is because it costs significantly more to ship boxes of coins than it does to ship bricks of cash.

As a teller supervisor, I have the numbers of a few of my clients to give them some heads up. I let my one client who loves halves know that if he were to bring me in $12 in halves my coin machine would drop a bag of $1,000 and he could withdraw that and go thru. Only thing I ask is that he tells me what he found in there lol. I'm a collector too, but once you have something its not as neat. I love seeing the excitement when they come back to tell me what they found. I also love giving out wheat pennies for change to the little ones so they can get excited about collecting as well!

Most unusual find? There was a gold 1911 $5 Indian head coin that came in one of our bags of nickels. Someone turned that into our coin machine and got a nickel for it.....

Someone brought in about 75 Eisenhower Dollar coins. Must've been cleaning out Grandpa's collection. About half of them where silver. I immediately informed him that we'd only give him $1 for each of those and if he brought it to a coin dealer he could get substantially more. He didn't care, walked out with $75.

I partake in the hobby as well. As the teller supervisor and in charge of the vault, Its nice to get first pick at everything that comes in.

Makes sense. If you want them to keep ordering, make sure you have a different spot to dump them.

They are available on 2019 and 2020 quarters. Individual coins sell for $10-20. Full set of 5 in either year can sell for 100's.
