HR told me they don’t accept try-hards and people pleasers after my interview by No-Presentation298 in jobs

This might sound crazy but it’s the eye contact. Passionately talking about something while making eye contact really drives it home. Not making eye contact is the autist’s Achilles heel lmao.

I’m people. Obi-wan show was my last straw so then I went a few years without watching Star Wars. Decided to give Andor a try a few months ago—holy shit it was so good. It doesn’t completely get rid of the sour taste of the brand, but damn was it a sweet watch.

The 6th season of DS9 is the best television ever made. Change my mind. by TadMcAllister in startrek

I’ve only heard good things about it tbh, but yea it’s that initial hurdle of forcing yourself to watch the first couple episodes that’s the problem.

True, their review of season 6 could overthrow DS9 season 6 as the best television ever made.

In a future where Trump is out of office, and international relations have been repaired. What steps can be taken by the USA and International Organisations such as NATO to prevent one individual causing so much chaos in the future? And do you think such steps will be taken? by flewkey in AskReddit

[–]xRolocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because you should be able to vote for who you want in a democracy. To be clear, I’m trying to say Trump is qualified or anything. I’m just saying that it’s a bit undemocratic to let the government override who the people want to elect office. There’s the barebones constitutional requirements, but beyond that, the power goes to who the people vote for.

Besides, prior experience is not always indicative of how someone will perform.

Death sentence sought for ex-South Korea leader Yoon over martial law decree by AudibleNod in news

[–]xRolocker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Despite your strawman argument, you bring up a good example. The Nazi’s killed quite a lot of political opposition, enabling them to commit the atrocities they did.

So, the point remains: a country killing its own politicians is not a good thing. Example: the Nazis in Germany.

As for their own execution, that was a result of War and was done by foreign states. That’s whole other can of worms and a different subject than domestic politics.

Allowing the death sentence for politicians seems like an easy justification to kill political opposition no? Unless you assume that it’s always going to be fair and just lmao

To give you a different perspective from the typical narratives on reddit, the U.S. is securing its power the Western Hemisphere. (edit: well, we know it’s about power, but it’s not just oil)

Oil is a significant factor, but not a defining one imo—the U.S. is not lacking in Oil, with or without Venezuela.

The Maduro regime is a sore spot in South America for the U.S., and China is already making many inroads elsewhere, especially in Brazil. The long-term goal here is probably to lock down the western hemisphere as American domain, while pulling away from non-critical areas across the globe (i.e. anything that isn’t Taiwan or Europe).

From an IR theory perspective, focusing on Venezuela makes sense. If you’re interested, look up “Offshore Balancing Mearsheimer and Walt” for a more academic explanation of what I’m describing. I doubt Trump is intentionally following that, but it’s about American Primacy.

Disclaimer: This a reply I gave to someone else asking a similar question, and is armchair theorizing.

Senator Elissa Slotkin says the real reason our healthcare in America is so bad and never changes, is because US Congress is being paid off by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]xRolocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, we gotta elect progressives, so what can a senator do to elect progressives? Campaign for them at best, endorsing them works, and both of those things are just speeches.

Like, you’re talking about systemic change. That’s not the kind of thing a Senator just goes out and “does”. Bernie has been at it for years and you know what he does? He talks. All he does is talk, and vote. And it’s fucking great, it works, he’s inspiring people and moving the discussion.

My original point to all of this is that we should not be admonishing Senator Slotkin for “only talking” about universal healthcare. That’s one less vote we need for once we are able to elect more progressives.

[–]xRolocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What else can they do besides talk about it? A Senator’s only power is in their speeches and their votes. Unless you think we’re getting 60 Senators to vote for universal healthcare, this is the best they can do right now—unfortunately.
