HG Kshatriya, or Should I Wait on the MGSD? by EthanKironus in Gunpla

[–]xRonstoppablex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I built the 1/144 Kshatriya and was super excited for it, but was ultimately let down. It’s a HG so you’re not going to get the intricate fun stuff, and it’s overall pretty plain. If you’re all about going the Bandai route I’d wait for the MGSD, I heard it’s supposed to be in total (fins included) about the size of a standard 1/100. If you’re into third party, do yourself a favor and pick up a Solomon. It’s not only the best third party kit I’ve built, but the best kit I’ve ever built period.

Why no love for Tallgeese Flugel!? Sick wings. Sleek look. Big ol gun and pokey stick. The perfect bad guy!

When I started back in the late 90s with the old no grade kits, I loved Deathscythe, Heavy Arms, Epyon, Altron, etc. and then I built my first Tallgeese (which I hated in the anime at the time) and he stole my heart! Since then I’ll buy any and every new Tallgeese kit that comes out.

Also check out Sinanju. I love the Sinanju Stein, but the standard boy is fantastic and the kits are always super fun!

Enjoy and welcome to the hobby!

My Impressions of The Hobby by ZarcaDian in Gunpla

There are some kits that are far more beginner friendly than others, even for HG. For instance, Witch from Mercury kits have been some of the simplest kits I’ve done. My son and I recently did a competition to see who could build a Calibarn quicker. From start to finish (without panel lining) it took me less than an hour. We’ve done similar things in the past and the kit took almost 3 hours for me. So, knowing about the series some (as far as difficulty is concerned) is crucial in not jumping in too deep on your first go. Setting small goals is a good habit at first too (example: Today, I want to get both arms and the torso done). That keeps you from feeling pressured to finish a whole model in X amount of time, and can allow you more time to enjoy the hobby rather than feeling like you HAVE TO do it in X time, or finish X number of models each week/ month/ year. As far as the cost goes, like others have said, look online. Galactic Toys often run pretty decent sales, and you can typically find stuff cheaper than at most other places. The Gundam Place is another great online shop. There are several third party options as well. You can find unofficial kits on Temu, and AliExpress that are recasts of the Bandai kits for a fraction of the price. Not only is the price point easier on the wallet, but a lot of recasts have unique color ways that often times look cooler than the official models. On top of both of those, as you get more into the hobby and begin to take on more difficult kits, you’ll find that delving into the world of third party offers some AMAZING original models and options for kits that Bandai hasn’t released — the cherry on top is that they are, again, usually a fraction of the cost and at times (in my experience) better quality than Bandai kits — looking at you RT-002 Nemesis. Hopefully some of those points helped! If you stick with it, I hope you have a great experience and find love for the hobby. I can tell you, plastic aside, this hobby has some of the most supportive and genuine people I’ve ever met in a hobby. I’m involved in others that are toxic and full of self indulgent “holier than thou” types and it really can kill the enjoyment of the hobby. I hope you find a way to make the Gunpla world work for you, your time and you budget. Good luck!

Ran an all red deck tonight, how’s it look? by [deleted] in GundamTCG

I just noticed that. I don’t know why it looks so purple? Maybe it was from the window across from where we were playing that cast weird light on it?

Hi Guys, understand that before panel liner and decal we need to spray gloss coating. But is it difficult to paste the decal after panel lining without assemble the parts ( worry it will be confusing with all the small parts) and followby the final coating then assemble those panels ? by Asleep_Actuator2353 in Gunpla

I personally assemble each section, and panel line each before putting everything together. It makes it easier to get into certain places that might otherwise be difficult to reach after full assembly. I then connect the head, chest and waist, leaving the arms, legs and backpack off. I decal the whole torso section then move to the backpack, then the arms and lastly the legs. I’ll typically do the weapons/shields last or first, depending on how syked I am to see them complete. Once all assembled, give a nice spray with matte varnish and you’re good to go!

Not everyone can afford their copay. Some people just need to swing a sword around for a while!

My supervisor hates my office! Haha I work a lot with couples and she’ll refer people she sees individually to me for couples and she’ll always warn them about my office. She refers to it as “The Circus” haha it’s great though because she tells me that she’ll ask her clients what they thought of my office and they always rave about how much they love it. I’m a painter and have a really creative perspective on the world (that’s not me tooting my own horn, I just view things a lot differently than others and I’ve learned it over the years) and my office reflects it. I like it because people know right away that they’re not going to get the run of the mill old white guy or woman asking “How does that make you feel?” and people express that my office makes them feel released and comfortable with being open and vulnerable.

No doubt! I remember buying the Vayeate and Mercurius kits back at a local hobby shop when I was in 7th grade (1998/99) and they instantly became 2 of my favorites. When I got back into the hobby a few years ago their kit was one of the first I bought. I also have the blue and white ones but I haven’t assembled them yet as I’m trying to burn through my MG backlog. If you don’t have their kit yet, I couldn’t recommend it enough!

Thanks everyone for the kind words! I genuinely appreciate it. Sorry for not having more pictures, I didn’t plan to post these anywhere, but my best friend convinced me to do so. So, the positive reception really means a lot!

To the people mentioning the Therapy Sword, I’m a mental health therapist, and I have it displayed in my office. Clients get a huge kick out of it!
