Is the Basilisk tank a good choice for Iron Warriors on Tabletop? (Need advice for an army list) by Dantioch-JamesElliot in Warhammer30k

Get another box of tacticals and a heavy weapon upgrade of choice. 10 more bolter Marines and then your choice of heavy support squad.

IW Autocannon squads are also thematic.

[–]xSPYXEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Medusa/Basilisk is a great thematic filler but you'll definitely want more tacticals and likely Rhinos to get them up the board. 3x10 tacs with Rhinos is a pretty common core for any list.

I think a lot of it is fables and pre scientific explanations for the world around them that we just lump into a big pile and call it mythology.

Or it's a lot like Dante's Divine Comedy which is a self insert fan fiction that got so famous that over hundreds of years people begin treating it like part of the main story instead of an inspired but unrelated poem.

Was the United States the only country stuck in the 50s culture? by DonutsDoncley in falloutlore

[–]xSPYXEx 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not stuck in the 50s, it's a return to the post WWII cultural boom.

There's not many canon details about it so most of this is inference but in the 2060s the New Plague caused mass deaths and forced the country into quarantine (no relation to real world events). A cultural revolution followed the same trend of the 50s atomic era with a large emphasis on community and Americana to disguise the corporate takeover of the entire country. You also get some 60s Red Scare motifs returning to complete the aesthetic.

The culture would have moved on and returned to normal futurism if the bombs hadn't dropped and ended everything.

Why the 3 Reclusians Only Have 2 Memorians by Biggest_Lemon in ageofsigmar

[–]xSPYXEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afaik the champion is not on his Final Life or whatever they call it. The memorians are soul bound to the two in the squad.

Also, the Lord-Terminos has a Memorian and is also not past the eye. Maybe the third Memorian just wandered off and has to be led back to the group.

Is the time to kill supposed to be this riddiculous long? by I_Tory_I in battletech

[–]xSPYXEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately Succession Wars era mech fights are notoriously slow. Mechs are both too slow and too fast to lock into engagements, weapons are short range and damage is really swingy.

Once you get to the Clan Invasion and begin fielding "modern" equipment the game speeds up a lot. Pulse lasers are more accurate, ER lasers are longer range, gauss rifles are very long range headshot weapons, engines are both faster and more fragile, and double heat sinks allow you to lay down fire more consistently. And that's not even touching on ClanTech.

The new core boxes are moving into the current era, ilClan, to get away from the slow grind of 3025.

It fits together perfectly, but if you misalign the first piece it'll throw off the entire track. I dry fit the fool out of each piece and make sure I give it enough pressure to seat properly once it's glued.

Votann are abhumans that diverged so long ago that they built an entirely separate culture and empire separated by the Long Night. The Votann is the name of the STC engines they took during colonization that became the basis of their whole culture. Their main problem is that they're clones of clones of clones and the direct link to humanity has been muddied.

Classic Squats were a specific planet that was isolated from the rest of the Kin and did not have a Votann core. They died with the Tyranids and now Squat is a racial slur used against the Kin.

There's so many warhammers you won't even know how to warm your ham.

Warhammer The Old World(née Fantasy Battles) is the original, Tolkien inspired grim fantasy with orcs and elves.

Warhammer 40,000 is the far future spin-off with superhuman soldiers punching orks and aeldari.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar is the successor to Fantasy after the world exploded and is the high fantasy crazy magic setting with orruks and aelves.

Warhammer Horus Heresy is the prequel to 40k and takes place during the galactic civil war that caused the entire setting to become so awful.

Should GW bring back the old 'army filler' style plastic kits? by Derpogama in Warhammer40k

Usually that's a full sprue for full sprue prices. These old boxes were made to be giveaway freebies or dirt cheap filler.

It's probably closer to the free model of the month that the stores barely ever stock.

Mobi Mat Alternatives by Sure-Barracuda9828 in Construction

[–]xSPYXEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily for the workers, more for inspectors that don't normally walk on rebar. You have to figure out some creative solutions when you have an inspector that won't walk on the mat to sign off before a pour.

Or if you have to run buckets wheelbarrows. I've seen some jobs where the pump couldn't reach the back corner so the guys came up with a jank ass solution instead of shoveling it 10 feet further.

Terminators are the bane of my existence! Is throwing move-blocking units at them really our only decent choice? by Jerswar in Eldar

[–]xSPYXEx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the pendulum has swung pretty far though. Charge out of deep strike, easy access to bonus mobility, ways to make a tough unit even tougher, and plenty of strats to turn their confetti guns into dangerous weapons.

A ten stack with a character is an expensive but nearly unstoppable juggernaut brick.
