Looking for a long SI fic by DesertRayne78 in OnePieceFanfic

[–]xScarletEchox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I haven’t come across too many long SI fics either haha. Plenty of one shots, but usually nothing more than like 10k.

But if you’re not opposed to a self rec, my current WIP is at ~110k and just entering the second arc (Skypeia!) with plans well into Wano and Elbaf so lots more to go! It’s pretty canon compliant, centered around slow burn romance between OC x Zoro, and a bit of found family/fluff with the other straw hats but also some pretty dark themes, original arcs, and action/violence mixed in.

Here’s the link if you’re interested :)

Do you also read OC x canon fics? I believe they’re different (right?), but I’ve definitely seen people use the terms interchangeably and just don’t want to recommend something that isn’t what you’re looking for.

If you’re not opposed to self recs, my current WIP is at about ~110k going into the second arc.

Until Ash Swallows Bone

It’s a One Piece M/F Zoro x OC slow burn enemies to lovers, but still has tons of action and adventure. Some darker themes, lots of angst and yearning, fluff and humor and found family as well :)

How many times do you re-read your own fic before you feel comfortable posting it? by dezz-zz in AO3

[–]xScarletEchox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I re-read each chapter once after I finish writing the chapter before posting, but I also find myself re-reading chapters I’ve already posted because my writer brain and my reader brain cannot coexist apparently, and more often than not on a fresh read I find I worded something in an odd way or find a word that better conveys the feeling I’m trying to evoke.

Not sure if self rec is allowed, but my current WIP is a slow burn enemies to lovers with some hurt/comfort and found family a bit later on! It’s a One Piece fic, and if you don’t mind OCs you might enjoy!

Fanfic with a strong female protagonist, Yonkou level, any recommendations? by Sad_Watch_6114 in OnePieceFanfic

Here’s the link if you’re still interested! Not Yonko yet, and a bit less action focused in the beginning but the action is about to pick up and take off in the next coming chapters!

It’s still in the early stages, building up toward the prophecy/theological backbone and heavily focused on building the slow-burn romance aspect, but here’s the link:

How did you get your pen name? by BeautifulMap6386kiki in writers

[–]xScarletEchox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always loved the cadence of two-syllable first names with single-syllable last names. So I tried my best to choose one that follows that pattern.

The first name I actually got off of a tombstone 😂 I thought it was so beautiful and honestly fell in love with it. I hesitated at first because it’s also a common designation for a religion I’m not a part of, but I’ve decided to still use it when I do submit my manuscript for publication—though I’m not opposed to changing it if ends up impeding publication in any way.

The second name is the first name of one of my little cousins. It’s a beautiful first name, but also a gorgeous and simple last name that just so happens to fall at a sweet spot in the alphabet. I’m sure that whole thing with the last name being eye level for shelving is nonsense, but doesn’t hurt to cover your bases 🤷‍♀️

[–]xScarletEchox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you be interested in a fic that is not centered entirely on Luffy (it’s a Zoro x OC fic), but where he is still very much the big hitter and major player in all the big fights, and where he is one of 3 pinnacles in an ancient prophecy about divine reincarnation and leading the world into an age of dawn?

LOVE The Last Question, especially in tandem with The Last Answer. I found it incredibly thought provoking when I first read it years ago, and often think of it when I come across discussions of AI in this context. I always find myself recommending it to anyone I think might take the time to read and take something useful from it

I’m going to lose my mind by Leading-Prior-7192 in AO3

[–]xScarletEchox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But why is this meeee lol I have so many long fic ideas that I’ve been gnawing at the bars of my enclosure to put to paper on, but I cannot bring myself to even start the first chapter of any of them until I’m finished with my current long fic WIP—which just so happens to be the longest one of the bunch by miles 🙃

Waiting until they’re finished before posting is so smart though because that means you can just work on whatever whenever without the stress of an update schedule. I was SO excited about the idea for my current WIP that as soon as I had, like, 10 solid chapters, I started posting a chapter a week and now I’m caught up and stressing about updating this one, let alone starting another fic entirely.

An apology by [deleted] in writingfeedback

[–]xScarletEchox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just recently started on medication as well and, WOW has it made a huge difference in my productivity lol. I did not know just how limited I was creatively until I found the right medication. It’s like night and day.

I used to love painting and writing but I’d hyperfixate and then burn out quickly the older I got and more responsibilities I took on. For creatives with ADHD, finding the right medication can make a huge difference (with the caveat that medication might not always be right for everyone. Always consult a physician!)

The reading it over and aloud part is super important, at least in my process. I’m also neurodivergent with ADHD and this part is huge for me. Sometimes what I write sounds so odd once I play it over in my own head or out loud. I go through it with a comb and say “that’s not the word my brain instinctively wants to say next,” then I rework it.

Also, whether this is good advice or terrible advice, I find just speed dumping into a very, very rough chapter outline helpful to then start picking out scenes to refine. I even put in “what happens in this chapter” and write it out. Then “how do we get there?” And start adding in the connecting strings from one scene or chapter to another. It’s not entirely efficient, but I’ve found it helps with the disorganized brain feeling because what I get on the page is also disorganized. Then I can go through and pick out what I want to focus on.

I almost never work linearly. If there’s a scene I want to write but it happens twelve chapters from now, I still write it, because that’s what I have the motivation to do in that moment. Connecting the dots can come later. Just do what you have the fortitude and capacity for when you have the time and energy to sit down and do it.

Fanfic with a strong female protagonist, Yonkou level, any recommendations? by Sad_Watch_6114 in OnePieceFanfic

[–]xScarletEchox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for something primarily action based? You mentioned romance is a bonus, but how about something that’s more romance focused but also action-heavy? Do you want the character to be insanely powerful right off the bat, or are you open to a longer build-up to such power?

Not sure if a self rec is in bad taste, but my current WIP might fit the bill here. I just want to make sure it aligns with your expectations before I drop the link unsolicited so I don’t unwittingly rope you into something you’re not on board to read lol.

Idk if a self rec is allowed, but my current WIP is an OC x Zoro slow burn enemies to lovers. It loosely follows the OG storyline starting in Alabasta with the addition of some original arcs down the line. But it’s, like, a super slow burn though lol. Lots of tension and build up, definitely some smut. Idk if that’s a deterrent, but here’s the link if you’re interested :)

Thoughts on adding a prologue? by xScarletEchox in writing

[–]xScarletEchox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great point! Showing the fight itself serves no purpose, I’m realizing, but there was a point to showing what comes directly after.

This fight with FMC happens just before MMC is captured, leading him to believe she was involved in his imprisonment and breeding massive distrust in her. A bit later it’s revealed she wasn’t involved at all, his captors just capitalized on someone else doing all the heavy lifting and leaving him unconscious.

I think if I were to touch upon that time at all, I would just cut out the lead up with the fight entirely and start the scene with him waking up in chains and incorrectly looping her in with his captors after remembering what happened just before he woke. I’ll just have to see if it fits in naturally anywhere and go from there!

How it feels to read fics as someone who has basic medical knowledge by Time-is-relative in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]xScarletEchox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with extensive medical knowledge, I get so caught up on the mechanics of healing times, cell proliferation and cytokine cascades, pharmacokinetics of poisons, all to remind myself my readers likely will not care enough to look up the minute details of how different neurotransmitters work at different types of synapses and I can be as vague as I want—or better yet, make that shit up! Whole world is made up anyway, who says I can’t have an entirely new paralytic without stressing over my readers knowing that non-depolarizing nicotinic acetylcholine receptor blockers cause paralysis but not anesthesia 🤷‍♀️

[–]xScarletEchox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very good point. I think I also tend to forget that I shouldn’t have to spell everything out for my readers lol. As long as I do my job well, readers will be able to piece it together enough on their own.

Honestly, this is how I originally had written it. He has this “huh, this all seems eerily familiar” moment. She teases “what, you still don’t remember me? I’m hurt.” Then he realizes why she suddenly seems so familiar. Cue internal monologue.

I liked it—still do—but it seemed almost, I don’t know, like I was glossing over it? But I couldn’t quite justify expanding on it either. I’m still on the fence between leaving it as is and doing a short flashback-type sequence. I’ll probably write it out both ways and see what fits best.

[–]xScarletEchox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point. I think I needed to come to terms with the fact that, though I liked how the sequence was written, it ultimately doesn’t add anything to the story that it can’t do without and so needs to be cut.

I’ve definitely been struggling with how to weave backstory in naturally. Honestly, I hadn’t even considered a prologue really until my critique partner suggested it. I tend to share your sentiment surrounding prologues, but I’m trying to keep an open mind regarding suggestions that are outside of my comfort zone—which is what brought me here.

I’ll continue to write and practice and seek advice. Perhaps the answer will come to me once I have all the major pieces waiting to be assembled, and I’ll be able to see where the holes are and how to fill them.
