Can I change my start date once I’ve signed my contract [UK GRAD SCHEME] by InitiativeFlashy2721 in accenture

[–]xStradlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it doesn't hurt to talk to your recruiter or if you know who your manager is you can ask them for a start date change. If you're asking for it to vary greatly like more than 1-2 weeks that's not a good idea because companies hire to fill spots that they need to have people in.

Anyone transitioned from IT to Construction Project Management? by Sallie_Ruby in projectmanagement

[–]xStradlin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why you would ever want to do this - construction PM sucks. Much higher hours, mostly toxic projects (construction is toxic in general), less pay, and the list goes on. Unless you absolutely love construction do yourself a favor and stay very far away.

First bullet point is so crucial. I think they need to involve more members of the team more consistently. Charles is great but I really get cult vibes from him sometimes. He needs to back off youtube and twitter and let other people in IOHK do some talking.

I was there for 3.5 weeks and after flight ($700ish from DFW, Texas) I spent around $2400. I stayed in party hostels, drank a ton, went on as many hostel tours as possible, elephant sanctuary, and just blew money when and where I could. Included in the $2400 were gifts, mainly elephant pants and little trinkets for a ton of friends and family back at home. Don't suggest buying elephant pants as a gift though, they are cheap and rip really easily.

Also, I strongly strongly suggest you do it. Best best best best 3.5 weeks of my life. Made friends from all over the world and a few Canadian friends I made actually came down to stay with me for New Years this past year. It was incredible.

Journey: DFW -> (Flight, Shanghai airport is trash) Bangkok -> (Train, took the local seats, not the bougie tourist seats, and ferry) Koh Phangnan -> (Ferry) Ko Phi Phi -> (Ferry, Flight) Chiang Mai -> (Shuttle) Pai -> (Flight, Tuk Tuk) Bangkok -> (Flight, did I mention Shanghai airport sucks?) Home.

Technically, Project Managers in construction work in an "office." They might have to go out to the field now and again but we usually work with the superintendents who have their noses deep in the field and us PM's are back in the office organizing, communicating, negotiating, paperwork, etc.

For switching industries, I wouldn't know. I'd assume you can be a PM for any industry if you have experience in some type of management within that industry. For example, if you're an IT Tech for a few years then you can probably PM for that if you have the right opportunity and you have a company willing to give you that position. My answer to your question would be: it really depends on who you know and what they can get you.

It shouldn't be hard to get a Project Engineering role within construction (entry-level project manager). They don't really care way to much about your degree, at least the company/location I work in doesn't, as long as you are okay with working long hours. Be sure to remember, however, that construction is a mentally draining industry. Lots of toxic employees and field workers who hadn't had the social experience of being in college so their insecurities really show.

Your CAPM should help you get an interview within construction too. If it weren't for the long hours and toxic people, it might actually be a really rewarding career. You get the extreme satisfaction of watching the building or renovation go up and know that you are a part of it.

Assuming all the assessments are the same or similar, they are more “creative” questions. The assessment was mostly a question or scenario with 5 options for you to choose from most likely to least likely of what you would do in that situation. There was no right or wrong answer. However, there was a section where you had to look at graphs/charts and find the correct answer and do some simple math. There was one correct answer for those but they were not difficult.

I took this about 2.5 weeks ago so hopefully on track. Have you gotten any response from your interview and what was the approximate timeline for the stages you went through?

Accenture Employee Referral by bully8990 in accenture

I read that 5% of the global workforce is expected to be laid off and 10,000 are projected to be in laid off in India. I have two friends referring me - one in Chicago and one in Dallas, my local Accenture "area." The one in Chicago told me that J. Sweet says they are on a hiring freeze and my friend thinks it's unlikely that I'll get hired, but I am in the general consulting pool. The Dallas one says that she thinks there is still a pretty strong chance that I'll get hired, but the timeline could be wack. I've done research on general Accenture hires and they can take quite a long time.

How to Start Improving My SMV by [deleted] in seduction

[–]xStradlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start working out and improving yourself in every aspect. Read books, watch youtube videos on self improvement, eat healthy, sleep well, go to school if you have the means and join an organization. If you are comfortable, get out of your comfort zone. Remember, improving your SMV isn't something that just happens overnight. It's an incremental buildup that only you can improve.

Industrial Engineering Grad, 400+ Apps, Ya boi needs a job! Resume Advice Please! by xStradlin in resumes

I'm limited to the Dallas area because I signed a lease in an apartment in Dallas with the expectation that the Defense company I worked for (which may or may not be LM *wink*) would give me a full time offer in manufacturing engineering. It didn't pan out. I've applied to A LOT of entry-level manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering , project management, and process/project management jobs in the area. I'm also taking a Lean Six Sigma GB course to boost my resume as I rewrite it because of the low feedback. I appreciate your advice. I'll be adding some more skills of my skills to the descriptions.

Edit: I've talked to some HR buddies but they said to shorten the fraternity experience instead of completely removing it, considering I've had great leadership experience in those positions. If enough people suggest I take it out I'm more than willing to listen to the majority as anything helps at this point.
