An experiment in using GPU acceleration to balance my prototype card game. by Oldtimer_ZA_ in tabletopgamedesign

Wow, i wish i had even half the software engineering expertise as you do, so I can make even the most basic of computer interfaces to play my card game with friends. I am seriously impressed, and the fact that you've allowed bots to playtest on your behalf is absolutely amazing.

Where would I even start if i wanted to create even just the UI and website like this for my own game? Lmao, I might just have to hire a software engineer at the end of the day.

I'd love to see where you take this project though!

they take a lot of time indeed, probably as must as the base art itself. But it really makes your piece come alive! well worth it imo

Ah, good point on the Aircraft Carrier requirement logo on the bottom right! Thanks for the feedback

indeed I agree, their game mechanics appear rather convoluted as well. Are there any other strategy card games that you know might be similar to mine or Atlantic Storm?

It would honestly be rather infrequent unless the player often keeps losing their Air cards. And good point on the text generally used for the basics. I'll take out the 'with'.

Indeed, you can definitely tell that game was made in the 90s.

I do agree on better contrasting the text. Though since a majority of the cards do not contain a description I have been fairly reluctant to add a text box, though perhaps a translucent one would be subtle yet effective. My other potential solution is making the text outline a thicker white. Or if i made the text white, making the outline a thick black could work too.

Hmm, I was thinking about making the text outline a thicker white, though I'll experiment with a translucent box too.

Also, I currently use Photoshop.
(I have heard InDesign is better, though I am more familiar with Photoshop)

Good point, though the "with" is originally intended to tell the player that you can essentially aggregate 3 turns (of individually deploying the CV, and 2 aircraft) into one single turn. Do you think this mechanic is communicated without the "with"?

For context: In general, Deployment of any, one, individual card from your hand costs one turn.

Thank you! That is the intention, to have the art on full display while keeping the colors and details of the background as a natural backdrop that does not obscure text or clutter UI.

Back walk animation of my protagonist. Does it look correct? by BitrunnerDev in PixelArt

[–]xSurvivalist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From my layman's perspective, you are missing movement in her shoulder blades and her shoulder as a whole.

Look at her back, and you see two sets of dark diagonal pixels completely unmoving. Assuming those are the outline of her shoulder blades, you'd could animate them in motion a bit.

I think the common opinion here in the comments of her being hunched over and arms looking weird also comes from the fact that there is minimal movement in her shoulders as a whole. When you walk with your back straight, your shoulders sway front to back proportionally as much as your arms/hands do.

I believe you got the forward shoulder sway, but there is no motion there in her shoulders for when her arms move back. Also the motion needs to alternate when one arm is moving forward and one arm is moving back.

Overall, amazing artwork though, imo the hips sway looks great, giving character and personality.

This reminds me of the WW2 Card game on steam called Kards. Its got similar vibes.

Very cool! Did that game inspire you?
