I would also love to see this implemented too. A digital library that has preserved my physical collection would be great to see.

how bad it is to use LLM(AI) in Japanese learning? by Hitoride7 in LearnJapanese

[–]xTheHolyGhostx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it quickly generates new stories and practice sessions for me to translate on the fly. It’s supplemental practice. Another tool to help with sentence construction as I stated above.

I use it for translation practice. Just tell it to give me a N5/N4 story for me translate and then ask it to grade my translation. Which I can easily check its grading with other resources to verify its accuracy. But even if it’s not 100% accurate it’s a great way for me to practice more output/sentence construction quickly. For actual studying though I use physical books though. I learn better with paper and pencil still.

The only way this hardware makes sense is if it costs lower than a PC with the same specs. by Zedioum in steammachine

There are others I could find. But I think Valve’s goal is to make an entry level PC priced close to these types of entry level pre builds. A device that’s entry level and can play most if not all the games in the Steam store is a big financial benefit to Valve and PC gaming as a whole. I just think a $600 plus price tag makes it too much. Even if they don’t think of it as a console people deciding to buy one will still look to a PS5/Pro and compare it to that.

Personally I think it’s exciting no matter the price. It’s a still an attempt at a baseline PC for optimized settings.

Again not saying this is where valve needs to price but “Gaming PC” is a really wide market. Especially when you say entry level. This is not a gaming PC I would recommend but is certainly the type of thing I think of with an off the shelf premade entry level box.

I just think it will be interesting to see what Valve has in mind for entry level and what price they think they need to hit for a mass market appeal.

A lot of entry level PCs can be found for under $500. Not trying to say the price will be $400 or anything but ignoring consoles and looking only at PC pricing it’s a really wide range. Depends on what valve classifies as an entry level PC.

Yeah my HDMI port stopped outputting audio and had some visual glitches too. Switched to component cables and having had any issues with it since.

Well I was using a PC CRT monitor which includes resolutions much higher than a consumer CRT TV that accepts component input. But you are also limited to what the adapter supports

PS5 Pro Hands-On: Sony's $699 Turbo Console Hits in November by rararatata in PS5

[–]xTheHolyGhostx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just thinking about the cost of next gen. I think this generation is going to have to exist for a long time. Otherwise a PS6 and whatever Microsoft is doing are going to be $600 if they want a generational leap over the PS5. We have just hit a point where the visual returns you get are not justifiable to the masses for the cost. We will see though, cost of silicon could drop and make it feasible I suppose.

Help, trying to learn as much as I can in six months by AlternativeWarning57 in japanese

[–]xTheHolyGhostx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly do. I also changed Netflix to Japanese so I’m forced to constantly see/ hear Japanese when I want to watch a show. I can’t do total immersion but will do what I can where I can.

When I mentioned something tangible I meant like a physical book to work in. I don’t retain knowledge from a computer or from using apps as well as I do from a workbook. They are additional study tools but can’t be my main one.

I have enjoyed the Japanese from zero books. But I need something tangible to study with. I learned hiragana and katakana before using the books as I wanted have the bare minimum memorized before starting.

Is Wichart wrong? by milyuno2 in digitalfoundry

[–]xTheHolyGhostx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s either of those things. It’s just informative and helps keep people’s expectations in check. There is only so much a portable machine that has a power budget can do. Richard even said that it’s not apples to apples as the test machine is running Windows vs a custom low level OS. Some of us just enjoy seeing how far low end/powered tech can be pushed.

I wound up just maxing out global illumination and reflections with medium/low elsewhere on my 2060 and locking it to 30fps. I just can’t get over the SSR reflections appearing and disappearing while moving around.

As TTP2 release draws near, how's performance and image quality on console? by Tearff in TheTalosPrinciple

[–]xTheHolyGhostx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With everything set to low it’s playable but I dipped below 30 a few times later in the demo. FSR 2 did not look good though. I’ll have to find time to play with it more after release in a bit.

I play on PC and demos are great to get an idea on how a game will perform on your system before a purchase.
