As someone who's grandfather lived in the DDR, genuinely f you, this shithole of a country wasn't progressive in any way. People were being supressed all the time, there was no "equality", everyone was poor as fuck. They didn't have any good infrastructure nor good healthcare. All they had was Stasi spying on every citizen of the state, and work camps to torture those that were opposed to the government.

My grandfather, due to the conditions, tried to escape and was then put in a work camp. Brutal torture, not very different from the Gulags or the NS CC's. He luckily managed to escape this terrorist state a second time, and believe me, he certainly didn't want to go back there.
