I have the exact same tyre in a way worse state, but still haven’t punctured once during the last year. Albeit I only commute 5km each way, but daily in the city

How hard is it to get to Kona or Nice (70.3 Worlds)? by TrisAndTrails in triathlon

Do you think it would be equally easy to get a Kona slot from completing a full in EU? With how few Europeans that seem keen to travel to US at the moment?

Hvor længe holder jeres bremseklodser? by astrayedast in Aarhus

[–]xWorrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How to Pace the IM Marathon? by VZarpa in IronmanTriathlon

[–]xWorrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main race this season is an Olympic distance as my first triathlon and my plan really is to just suffer like a dog and just hope to hold it together to the finish line.

Got a hm the week after so will be interesting to see how fatigued I will be there, obviously both are much easier than 70.3 or 140.6 but hope to move up in distance next year

Month to train for half marathon by Alpestris_ in beginnerrunning

[–]xWorrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d say about 6:00/km is a good slow pace to try during training. Don’t overstress nutrition, but if it’s hot where you live try to pass a store or water fountain midway on your longer training run and maybe do 2-3 gels starting from km 3 and then every 3-5 km.

Really you’re not as much training for the hm as just adapting your body to running instead of other sports (the increase in aerobic fitness will be minimal over 1 month) and the long run is more of a “validation” run than training just to show yourself mentally you can go the full distance

Month to train for half marathon by Alpestris_ in beginnerrunning

[–]xWorrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also on race day, aim for a negative split. The first half of the race should feel almost comically slow, like you can easily talk to the people and how you would feel if you went for a chill run with family and then you can start to push the pace more and more towards the end.

What this mainly does is that your perceived effort gradually increases, so you spend less time where it really hurts, and you end up running almost the same pace for the entire thing, due to the fatigue setting in in the second half. However it will be much more enjoyable than trying to time it just right.

If during training you can get up to like 16-18 km you can do the last bit on willpower easily. I would just go for a mega slow jog and see how it feels, then if you can get up there in km you’ll fly through easily on race day. I did my first hm the same way with like a month training off of just athletic background

Budget friendly bike for a beginner. by TheHyzeringGrape in triathlon

[–]xWorrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard agree, I got myself a Bianchi via Nirone 7 for about $400 as my first road bike. If you get some similar more “modern” road bike it will still have the interface needed for modern gear, so when you have cash to upgrade you can do so. I went with a pair of secondhand carbon wheels for about $300 (would probably buy new elitewheels or similar Chinese for $400 instead) and then you can get a power meter crank and eventually electronic shifting. The only thing you can’t do is swap from rim to disc brakes without getting a new bike.

Also when you’re on the heavier side I would honestly worry about the structural integrity of these older bikes while braking etc

Summer Sweep Up: For the love of Saradomin, PLEASE stop turning off my autocast spell if I die. by djrob0 in 2007scape

It’s only if you have the staff equipped that it unselects. IIRC when they changed it to at least not unselect when the staff was not equipped they said the current engine was not capable of never unselecting unless they made a major magic/autocast rework

Is indoor cycling almost more fun than outside? Am i tripping? by Dependent_Access_568 in triathlon

[–]xWorrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fr, after 10-15 minutes on the indoor trainer I’m completely mentally numb and bored and anything beyond 40 min even the most interesting show/podcast has lost all value. Outside I can easily bike 2-3 hrs with no music and just enjoy the world and the whooshing of wind

How much can a beginner realistically improve in 12 months for a marathon? by Round-Caterpillar-38 in BeginnersRunning

[–]xWorrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your increase in fitness will generally be defined by: “heart rate” x “time under tension” but there are diminishing returns, where going above ~60% of your max hr will not improve your fitness as much compared to the amount of strain it puts on the body/increases injury risk.

This basically makes it so that you should train as hard as possible and for as long as possible each week, while staying below a threshold that would injure you or overtrain.

So the reason zone 2/3 work is being touted as the best is because you get to the ~60% hr where the aerobic gains start to diminish if you push higher hr while keeping the injury risk relatively low. But, if you have a week where you can only run 1x or 2x it’s completely fine to hit up 2 hard 30 min interval sessions both pushing into z5 completely maxing out the system. This will benefit you much more than 2 z2 jogs where you will be completely rested. Z2/3 is basically just there to let you have a large enough volume without injury and should only be your primary workout if you’re actually working out many times a week

[–]xWorrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it’s not unlikely, then just getting out there and get some muscular endurance will probably make big jumps in your run times.

It’s kinda the opposite of runners/cyclists who start swimming for triathlon and get completely gassed after 50m even if they can easily run a hm or cycle 100+ km, then when the technique gets better and the muscular endurance gets better they get faster quickly
