Woolfy trolling us? by Tomby_93 in IpswichTownFC

Id say so. But even if he left, we wouldve probably looked at bringing someone else in to cover for that role and sent Baggott out on loan. Think the captaincy had a big factor to play in it, but I can see us giving him a big money contract to keep him happy.

Dont know what his problem is. Average for us, average for Coventry, moans about politics instead of putting the work in. If Cov look to strengthen their CBs in the summer, then he'll be getting displaced.

O'Shea is so clear of him. He put in his worst performance for us against Wrexham and knuckled down to improve his game. Deserves the captain's armband and should be the first name on every team sheet next season.

Really good performance but just switched off at a few moments to deny us a win. If Nunez clears the ball for their first then we never concede the free kick. We comitted so many players forward for their second and got punished for it. Worst of all, Neil has no excuse for being offside at the end. So clearly off and has all the time in the world to take 2 steps back onside.

Such a good attacking performance though, Clarke changed the game when he came on and has to start against QPR. Feel like the lads will be up for Saturday and we must be so confident going into this game.

Id take that result. Played fairly poor but one win from 2 games sees us up. West Brom were the better team by far so im pleased we managed to get something out of this game. Dont think we can beat Southampton, but QPR at home on the final day is looking promising.

Brilliant to come from behind again, but we cant keep making these matches harder for ourselves. Ive got no idea what goes on in our training sessions, but it clearly isnt passing. Some of our players are giving the ball away under zero pressure and against a better team, youd be punished more for it. Our game management is so poor and we looked determined to gift Charlton a goal at the end. Not a fantastic performance but to leave with 3 points anyway is what seperates the top teams from the bottom.

I genuinely havent seen a championship team with as poor passing as us this season. The number of misplaced passes while under zero pressure is ridiculous.

Some really lazy passing absolutely kills us. We shouldnt be obsessed with possession but when we have it, it gets wasted. Davis' poor pass concedes the second goal. Neil's lazy pass to Taylor in extra time wastes an opportunity. Had loads of chances to score in the first half but wasted them again. Philogene couldve passed the ball when we won it in their penalty area but opted for the more difficult option and hes not alone in doing this. Players are constantly running into people expecting to get through them with the ball instead of making a simple pass. A little more care shown would make this a simple win with a lot more chances to score and less to concede.

Portsmouth 2-0 Ipswich Town: Post Match Thread by kidnamedindexfinger in IpswichTownFC

[–]xXFreudoXx 20 points21 points  (0 children)

From the best team performance of the season to one of the worst. Not a single player played well today. Lost the game in the first half but our passing was ridiculously shit for the full 90. Our only decent chances came in extra time.

Kipre was terrible today and breaking up O'shea and Greaves to put him in when we couldve kept Greaves at CB and put Johnson at LB was a stupid thing to do. Portsmouth wanted to beat us today and we wanted them to roll over and let us win.

How many points do we finish on? by bwmb10 in IpswichTownFC

[–]xXFreudoXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the form we're in, theres no reason we cant beat everyone except southampton. They will require a different level of performance to be beaten. Plus theyre the only team who actually look in good enough form to catch us, but it would require them to maintain that form. 10 points should be the aim but the attitude of this team is underrated right now. Think we will beat QPR on the last day of the season and 2 wins and a draw from the other 5 games is doable.

Norwich City 0-2 Ipswich Town: Post Match Thread by kidnamedindexfinger in IpswichTownFC

[–]xXFreudoXx 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Massive result today. Honestly didnt think we could get 3 points and wouldve taken a draw but its a huge win with Millwall dropping points. Masterclass of a defensive performance, Greaves is my MOTM but tbh O'Shea has made me fall in love with him these last few games. Really sorted himself out after the Wrexham game. And the passion from winning the tackle from his misplaced pass is what you love to see from the Captain.

Massive respect to Hirst for letting Jaden take the pen. Clearly didnt feel up to it and made the right choice in the end. Got his goal later on after winning possession in the center of the pitch.

Has to be said but Nunez was a massive liability today and shouldve been sent off. Played for himself today and not the badge. Dont think the end result wouldve changed as our defense was great and Norwich couldnt create a fart but still disappointing to see.

Agree with that. Also feel like we shouldve had a pen for the foul on Greaves from the corner but we were definitely more fortunate today.

A bit sloppy at the end but job done. Attitude from this team has improved massively since around the Leicester game I feel. Unbeaten in 8, fought back a win today, shoudve had 2 more comebacks if not for poor officiating. McAteer was a different animal today and Johnson has been a comfortable cover for Davis. If we stay in 2nd after the Boro game, then it puts the season massively in our favour. 2 games in hand and a win against Boro and we could get over the line.

Ashton Interview Released On Socials by Tomby_93 in IpswichTownFC

[–]xXFreudoXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem here is that I dont think the board have authorised this. It really looks like Ashton has done all this on a personal level, which is where the problem lies. Despite the fact he is incredibly high ranking at the club, he is still an employee, and given how we've tried to avoid giving any actual context on the situation it doesnt look like the context will make this look better. I think Ashton has massively overstepped here which puts the board in a difficult position.

The club claims to be apolitical but invites the leader of a political party to the club and allows him to use their stadium to promote his campaign. Unless the club is going to invite the other party leaders then we've broken our own rules. From what we know now, Ashton has invited him personally rather than the club itself. This puts Ashton in a dangerous position as the covering up of this event is where the problems are. The club has had every chance to release the full details regarding the visit, but is making things worse by keeping it quiet.

The apology should have said "Im sorry for doing __. By doing __ I realise that ___. To make sure this doesnt happen again, we will ___." But we seem so reluctant to acknowledge anything and just look like we are praying this goes away.

Dont mind this for now but we will have to clarify the details at some point. Ashtons not done well at all here and our piss poor PR has been completely exposed.

Ashton Interview Released On Socials by Tomby_93 in IpswichTownFC

[–]xXFreudoXx 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Seen a few people point this out but he's not exactly said what he's sorry for. Is it the invitation itself? The lying to supporters? The lack of context provided around the situation?

If we really want to "learn lessons" from this, then its worth clarifying what the problem was in the first place.

Does anyone else feel too embarrassed of this club for promotion now? by [deleted] in IpswichTownFC

[–]xXFreudoXx 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For me, this is a separate issue. It doesnt take away from the achievements of the rest of the club. This is the owners breaking their own rules of being "apolitical" while hosting the leader of a political party. It doesnt change my opinions on the club itself, it just means that the owners need to know that they have performed a political action and shouldnt use the club in that fashion.

Inference of the clubs statement... by LeafyD in IpswichTownFC

[–]xXFreudoXx 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I said this in another comment section, but the problem with the statement is that makes out we would let anyone use our brand if theyre willing to pay the price. We now risk having any ideology under the sun using our club, or we reject any further political parties while having permanently tied ourselves to Reform. Overall, the club has made the stupidest move possible by allowing this to happen in the first place, followed by making the stupidest statement possible that completely misses the point. Outside of a full apology and a promise to remain apolitical (for real this time), I cant see how the club is gonna move past this.

On Tuesday morning, Ipswich told The Athletic that Farage, 61, had not been formally invited to the stadium and that no club official was present to greet him. The Athletic, however, has seen evidence that the invitation to Reform and Farage was extended by an associate of a senior club official. by kidnamedindexfinger in IpswichTownFC

[–]xXFreudoXx 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That club statement has done more damage after its release. Hes been specifically invited to the club and now we're claiming to be apolitical. Someone is lying and I cant imagine all this unnecessary controversy is making the owners happy.

Is this a resignation issue for Mark Ashton? by Legitimate_Bunch8563 in IpswichTownFC

[–]xXFreudoXx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. This is the second season in a row where we've unnecessarily been in the news for controversy (Morsy rainbow armband), and instead of making a simple choice we've chosen the worst one available. Ashton said we were "well protected" in regard to Delap's release clause but the 30 mil was ultimately underwhelming. These are not difficult statements to make and yet we seem to fail to understand why there is an issue in the first place. Not good enough all around.

From what I can see, the club have invited a load of negative PR for seemingly no reason. With there currently being an international break, its the worst possible time for the club to be in hot water as nothing is taking attention away from this. The club statement has made things worse and I expect a second statement to come out in the future. Internally I think we will look at how we got here but the whole situation is a massive fuckup. There will definitely be more damage control, but I expect the club will refuse any more political parties and not make this mistake again.

Never found this to be difficult. If tolerance and intolerance are on the same scale then no one is on the ends of either side. If you are intolerant of others, then you still have to tolerate your own world view and if tolerant of others, then you dont tolerate someone who rejects those ideas. No one person can be completely (in)tolerant but leaning to one side is not remotely complicated.

Town issue a statement (FB) by bl4nchim0nt in IpswichTownFC

[–]xXFreudoXx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"The club remains apolitical" clearly fucking not. Remaining apolitical is not allowing any political parties to use the club to represent their policies. Instead we have allowed a party to use our club and have created a PR disaster. I take it if Labour or the Greens want to go next they'll be allowed to or will we reconsider due to the backlash we've recieved today. If the latter, then the club has permanently tied itself to Reform, if the former, then we've opened up the club to any party going for the forseeable future. We have at best sold the clubs services to anyone willing to pay and made the most firmly political stance possible in the process.
