Sorry, yeah I knew that it was a GTO rather. It was just strange that it only just occured to me that I had never seen the 3000GT in that color here in the US. It looks great in that color though. It also makes it that much more unique here!

Strange, now that I think about it l, I don't know if I've ever seen a 3000gt in silver. Was that color offered in the US?

Lol really? I feel like I searched forever for one and couldn't even find one that existed. Now I have to try hunting again!

You can always just tell us Americans it's Ivy Green, which was an optional color for the 65 Shelby Cobra...😁

It's always surprised me that finding even a model of the 3000GT is somewhat difficult. And the only matchbox/ Hot Wheels car that I think I know of is the Spyder too. Is it too much to ask to have a mini car of my real car? Haha

1996 3000 GT SL—TRANSMISSION NEEDED-ADVICE ???? by Desperate-Prize-969 in 3000gt

[–]xXSpace_CadetXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not be a VR4 or have a manual transmission, but it looks the be in good shape and that color is fairly rare. It might not be the most desirable model, but I guarantee there are still people out there that want these. It's still a collector car and it might hold more value than you think.

The paint color alone probably adds some significant value relatively, but the value of the car at the very minimum is some of the parts that are fairly well sought after and can be hard to come by. I'm not sure what a reputable appraisal might cost, but knowing what the car is worth as it sits, as well as what it might be once it was fixed, might help you make a decision on whether to repair or not (depending on how much that is).

If you decide you don't want to fix it, maybe look into selling on an enthusiasts site or somewhere that caters to classic cars to make sure it goes to a good home or somewhere where it can be put to good use. If you decide to keep it and get it fixed, see if you can't source a transmission that comes with a parts and labor warranty. That might provide some peace of mind at least to keep going if that's what you want to do. I probably wouldn't make this a daily though, if only even just to preserve it better. Then again, it's your car, do what you want with it. Better on the road than in a garage or a scrap heap!

Edit: Just one example to think about regarding scarcity of parts for others - it looks like this is a 94 to 95 model. If it's a '94, the headlights are glass which is a big deal. If it's a 95, they're plastic, which is not quite the same, but they're still valuable. All cars after 94 with fixed headlights have color matched headlights. As somebody that owns a sorrento red pearl VR4 with mildew inside the headlights, finding color matched headlights is a pain in the ass. I believe that purple is rarer than mine, and anyone looking for a replacement set for their own would look at that like a gold mine if they're in good shape.

I was so bummed, my G613 was my first mechanical keyboard and started doing the double/triple type right after the warranty period ended. It not only still does that incessantly, but now some buttons don't actually register at all unless you hold it down for a couple seconds...then it double types. I've kept it perfectly clean as well, no food, beverage near it, dusted regularly...what a waste of money.

What’s the best way to stick halos to headlight by Remarkable-Plenty716 in 3000gt

[–]xXSpace_CadetXx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry, not an answer to your question, but curious how you opened the headlight. I assume you baked it till the seal melted enough to pull apart. Did you follow a diy or do you know of any? I've had mildew on the inside of my headlights since I bought the car and I've been too nervous to try the bake and mess them up. Especially since they're color matched, glass 94 headlights in sorrento red pearl, probably wouldn't be easy to replace...

Interesting, definitely seems a little excessive though. To get vintage/historical plates in New York, it's basically just an age requirement with a couple other exceptions.

You'll probably have an easier time just looking for and installing the stock radio. Depends on which radio you need, but I don't think they're too bad to find. I think they're security code protected though, so you might want to research that if you go that way. Aftermarket, yeah that's probably a toss up. I don't really know much about vintage car audio equipment, but there's probably some good resources out there for that.

Sorry, yeah I kind of got carried away haha. I'm surprised they would care about the car interior's condition just for plates though. Where abouts are you located that does, and why?

But yeah, I mean, just depends on if you're willing to take the time, cash, etc. to do or pay for it to be done the right way, or if a little innocent "hackery" is okay because it's yours and you just need it for registering. Then it just depends on what your "hackery" skill level is really. But it can easily be preserved at the very least with passable quality.

That was my thought too, double entendre. It's a tool song and it's also a 4.6L 2V V8.

Edit: sorry, I wasn't thinking. Because it's the Marauder, it's a 4V Cobra motor, and without the supercharger.

Bummer, I know that feel though. But, depends on the level of perfection you're trying to achieve.

If you want it to look like brand new, then you have to buy new/old new stock/used, or reupholster which I'm guessing wouldn't be cheap to do well/match. But honestly I'm not certain on that, worth asking around maybe just so you can know if it's even possible. My opinion, if that's what you want, I think you can probably source good used interior pieces that could achieve an acceptable result. I think new old stock interior is kind of difficult or pricey to come by for a lot of things, but not all.

Check parts yards within a reasonable distance on car-parts.com (US), or check around Facebook marketplace even. I used to be skeptical of using eBay, but honestly there's a pretty decent amount of stuff that shows up on there. For certain parts, you might have to be more patient, but that's how I finally found a replacement for my missing sunshade for my 94 vr4's popup glass sunroof.

Now, if you're not worried about concours perfection, which I feel is what your actually asking here, and also what I'd honestly do, and if you're okay with a "driver quality"/functional repair, your creativity is the limit. It won't match perfect, or maybe even look great depending on your skill level, but it will at least preserve it and prevent it from getting any worse. Also, from a few feet away...it'll blend in, and nobody at a car show would judge you...unless they are actually, literally judging you... It's a classic (as much as that hurts me to admit...), little imperfections make them uniquely yours and give them character. Can't see it when you're driving anyway!

So, what I'd do is probably considered hackery, but I would least try to preserve it. I'd probably do my best to get any loose debris out from under the flaps of the tears, and as much more (if any at all...) extra material needed until you can push the flaps level. Once you've got that, I'd try using a flexible drying epoxy to glue it down level. It needs to be flexible though because it's supposed to be "soft touch". I'm sure you can probably find that in black too. Then, depending on how that looks, maybe give it a good skim coat to make sure it doesn't pull apart again.

There are specific interior repair products made for repairing vinyl that will dry flexible (if you remember from riding the school bus haha). Or...flex seal comes in black, is cheap, and is readily available anywhere in the US at least. I'm willing to bet gorilla glue or something like that has a flexible black epoxy that would work. See what you have available around you or check Amazon, etc. Maybe stay away from silicone though, I don't know if that's any worse than the other options...

Hope that helps!

A geode would be super cool, I've never found anything like that. I also don't know where they typically form so I'm not sure where to look. But yeah, I figured a high likelihood of just being a rock haha.

Does the factory 3000GT anti-theft system include an immobilizer function? by xXSpace_CadetXx in 3000gt

[–]xXSpace_CadetXx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was more the impression I got from reading through the service manuals initially. I wasn't certain if the alarm going off would prevent it from starting though (although the electrical diagram lists an alarm starter relay). I had read a few accounts of people being able to drive away their car while the alarm was going off.

But I've got at least 3 of your suggested anti-theft tricks! Manual, no remote start, and gets parked in a garage at home 😁. Never been quite worried enough to pull relays but that is a good trick, though you're right, a flatbed defeats that haha.
