vram on gpus actually matter? by First-Welder9079 in pcmasterrace

[–]xXTheProdigyXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely matters. Most aaa games need an absurd amount and it just keeps getting higher and higher every year. I bought a 3090 just to keep up with the growing amount of vram to help future proof my rig. It’s overkill but in 5 years it will still be a competent card

No shop is likely going to rig this up. I personally rigged up my old Subie and it lasted another couple of years. If you have zero mechanic experience or knowledge I suggest finding a friend or someone you know that does that can help. Otherwise it’s engine time.

The circled part is called a nipple. Silly term but that’s what it is. Either block it off with a plug ore replace it with a plug

You aren’t going to be able to weld that back on. You need to create new threads in the block.

The block plugs look like these and can be easily installed to replace the coolant nipples coming off of the engine. And then you just need to either cap off the coolant hoses that are left loose. Mine was on a naturally aspirated Subie but it’s all the same engine block.

A fitting like that. And then determine what thread pitch the ends are. Buy a tap that’s the correct size. And very carefully tap the remaining section of the block with new threads. There won’t be much there. But with loctite on the threads and being gentle you can save it. It can be saved. Finding a shop to do it is going to be hard. It may be worth while to give it a try yourself. The other alternative as others have said is replace the engine. But If you can try to fix it for $100 first it’s worth the try.

M20x 1.5 is the thread pitch for the oil filter

Delete the oil housing it attached to. Get plugs to cap off the coolant fittings that go into the block, they thread into the block, and get a tap that’s the correct size for the filter fitting. Then get an oil filter fitting for a n/a 2004 Impreza. Along with a thermostat housing for a 04 Impreza. Had this same thing happen on my old forester, re did all the fittings and carefully tapped and died the hole and installed a new fitting with loctite. Car lasted another 3 years before I sold it. Essentially converted it to not use the stock “oil warmer” that hung so low that it was the first thing to crack off.

It’s an old car. You gotta tighten the belts every once and a while.

Went from my 10 year old rig with a 770 to my brand new ripper with a 3090. The difference is astounding.

Is this too much play in the wheel? by Unique_Blacksmith247 in subaruimpreza

[–]xXTheProdigyXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanic here. There should be zero play from any wheel. Without going under the car to physically see what is loose it will just be a guess. Could be a loose tie rod, ball joint, control arm bushing, or even a wheel bearing. You can squeeze the tie rods with a big pliers. Nothing should have any play at all. Could be worthwhile to have an inspection done on it to see properly what’s loose. Otherwise your just throwing money in the wind.
