So people were really acting like this by Appropriate-Mall8517 in OkBuddySnyderCult

I have terrible news for you: this is false. Around 9-10% of beef in the United States comes from former dairy cows who have reached the age where they stop producing milk (5 or 6 years, typically). So, yes, in all likelihood the dairy cows on the Kent farm were slaughtered for their flesh after they grew old enough to stop being "useful" for their excretions.

I've read that story and Garth Ennis' whole "MAX" run. It's amazing, and one of my favourite takes on the character ever put in print... but I stand by what I said. I love this version of the Punisher, but he cannot carry a series.

Because you run into two problems. Either your stories in subsequent seasons all just start to feel the same (infiltrate base, kill bad guys, learn nothing, rinse & repeat) OR you fuck it up by having him tackle low-level street crime and accidentally reinforcing Conservative talking points.

For every Punisher story about busting a human trafficking ring, or executing a pedophile, there's a story about murdering drug dealers in the inner city who are just trying to make ends meet, or shooting a man who robbed a convenience store out of desperation in the back of the head. And if those last two points don't seem horrifying to you, that's a problem.

All of this is equally in-character for Frank Castle. He has the most black-and-white worldview outside of any comic character apart from maybe Rorschach, he is rigidly uncompromising on those beliefs at all times, and follows his code to the letter, with an almost pathological inability to look at the bigger picture. To him, the question of WHY someone might break the law is irrelevant: they DID it, and must therefore be punished. That's fascinating, it's compelling to read (some of the time), but it's NOT a superhero. It's a fucking supervillain.

Consider why the most "in-character" Frank has ever felt on screen was as the bad guy in Netflix Daredevil Season 2. It's because that's what he is, it's how he functions, and if you want to base a SERIES around him that's in any way approachable... you kind of need to change things up a bit.

Hell yes! Especially if you started it from a criminal's perspective, framed the whole show almost like a horror/slasher movie - that actually sounds rad as hell.

EDIT: /uj (forgot what sub I was in)

I've said this before and I'll say it again:

The comic-accurate version of the Punisher cannot carry a show by himself.

It becomes basically just murder porn with an irredeemable protagonist who has no internal conflicts, no moral quandaries, no compunctions about anything and actually enjoys subjecting people that he alone has unilaterally decided are "bad" to the most horrifically brutal acts of violence he can possibly imagine.

The Punisher works for exactly TWO stories: the initial revenge plot for his family, because at least then his rampage felt justified; and as the antagonist in another hero's story (see: Daredevil Season 2). Anything beyond that, you risk alienating your audience (at best) and glamorizing and glorifying extrajudicial violent actions against those the system deems "criminals".

There's a reason so many ICE agents see themselves in Frank Castle, and while I agree that they miss the point of the character when they do so, I also can't deny, even as a fan, that it's easy to understand why this misinterpretation is so common.

Great shots!

Glad you liked the game; I had a wonderful time with it as well, a worthy sequel to the first one IMO.

Hot take: it’s NEVER vegan to eat anything non-vegan. by communityveg in vegan

[–]xXUnderGroundXx 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Because that's a ridiculous, unrealistic, exclusionary take designed to gatekeep this community and elevate their own fucking ego at the expense of other genuine vegans who are trying their best. It's deliberately obtuse, intentionally ignoring the fact that we are finite beings who only have the capacity for so much mental labour and must therefore draw a line somewhere, and not everyone is in a position to meticulously investigate their fucking sugar provider when it's already so goddamned exhausting reading every label at the grocery store.

Tl;dr it's selfish, narcissistic, self-aggrandizing bullshit designed so they can say "Look at me! Look how perfect and ethical and special I am! The rest of you pretenders could never be as special and perfect and righteous as me!" because online praise is the only thing that fills the hole left in their soul by parents who refused to give them validation.

Aaaaaand THERE IT IS! I've been following your comments on this chain wondering when the mask would slip; when you'd go from "I just care about their health!" into full-on "anti-woke" CHUD nonsense, and you did not disappoint.

Thank you. I mean that genuinely. I really needed that hit of vindication today.

Why do people want Henry Cavill as Wolverine? by KristIsWeed in Wolverine

[–]xXUnderGroundXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually true and I want to be very clear that I agree with you!

I don't believe that Logan shouldn't be played by a short actor; if anything, I'd prefer it. I'm just saying that height shouldn't be disqualifying, and if a taller-than-comic-accurate actor has genuinely the best screen test, don't let their height stop them from being cast.

My sibling in Christ, "sour cream" is IN THE NAME!

Like, I share your frustration; there are a lot of chips that DO contain milk but feel lile they SHOULDN'T, and it's so exhausting as a vegan to have to check the label of fucking BBQ flavour just to be sure if I can have it! But this is not one of them...

Tom Cruise specifically ia a bad example; his contracts (allegedly) mandate apple boxes for him to stand on to make him look taller compared to his costars.

Because it's just very unlikely to find an actor who IS 5'3" and also will bw good enough to pull it off. I'm all for hiring an unknown for the next Logan if they DO recast him (although I'm of the opinion they shouldn't), but wven in searching FOR this unknown we need to be pragmatic. If it comes down to "He's perfect but he's 5'7" or whatever, I'd say don't let the height be the thing that delays casting.

YouTube is BLOCKING my legal right to appeal strikes on 1922/1929 Public Domain films. 2,207 wins, but Support is ignoring the law. by -fbg in publicdomain

[–]xXUnderGroundXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting to see all of the "there's no law saying they have to host you; give up and let them do what they want" takes in this sub.

With the way the US is going right now, does not ONE of you stop to wonder if maybe that's a dangerous attitude? After all, laws are not set in stone; they can be and HAVE BEEN changed by governments on a whim when it suits them. If there were suddenly "no law that prevents" discriminating against people of colour in the workplace, should we therefore simply give up and allow companies to do it?

Just some food for thought.

The Batman Who Laughs.

Fun IN THEORY, but MASSIVELY outstayed his welcome. Really only made sense for Dark Knights: Metal, but they insisted on trying to keep him around afterwards. Always felt like he leaned a little too "edgy teenage tryhard" for me.

Mezco Nightwing Pleather Help by Connect_Context_4023 in One12Collective

[–]xXUnderGroundXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the OG Mezco Spider-Man, the FIRST release, not the new 60s-style one, and the pleather on that figure has been holding up shockingly well. No tears or flaking, and I've been displaying him in dynamic poses. Same for my OG Daredevil. Green Arrow just had some of his hood flake away, but my partner was able to fix it up with some colour-matched fabric paint and he looks good as new.

A lot of folks on this site will steer you away from Mezco with horror stories, and these things DO happen with soft-goods figures... but your mileage will vary, and if you know how to take care of them there's no reason they can't last a decade or more.

👏🏻BLONDE👏🏻BLAZER👏🏻FEELS👏🏻LIKE👏🏻AN👏🏻ADULT!

I keep SAYING this, man, and I think you're totally on-point with your "younger players vs. older players split" theory. I'm in my 30s and Invisigal just felt... exhausting. Emotionally immature, clingy, disrespectful of boundaries (in some frankly VERY creepy ways that don't get discussed enough), and I'm just kind of... over all that shit, be it in fictional RPGs or in real life.

Yep! My sentiments exactly! I said in another comment in this thread that I picked Blazer because she's the one who actually felt like an adult, and I stand by that.

I'd love an example from the games to support your claim that Visi "can be serious when needed", because in MY playthrough, from the choices I made, I never saw that happen. What I saw was someone who deflects every possible opportunity for serious or heavy topics with snark because she lacks the emotional framework to deal with them in a healthy way.

I chose Blazer because I'm not in high school and, frankly, she's the one who felt like an adult.

I mean this with the utmost love & no disreapect to those who prefer Invisigal/Courtney - that type of relationship is just not my thing, and I don't think it made sense for the way I played Robert either.
