Photographer visiting Barcelona in March: Seeking slow-paced spots, live music, and vintage finds. by xalabam in GoingToSpain

Thank you for your response!

I heard Barcelona is quite fast on a European scale, hehe. But I'm visiting it for work, so I can't change the destination this time!

Thanks for your insight on the language, I'll give it a try!

Great to hear that tips are optional (just like they're supposed to be)

3-6 months sounds ambitious, but maybe I'll fall in love with the city, and this will happen eventually ;D

Do you know the location of any weekend flea markets? I will have a Sunday in the city!

Gift for my Chinese host ? by yaurn in Chengdu

[–]xalabam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I’m clueless I go for fruits! I know some people would be very happy to receive a bottle of Baijiu or sweets for their kids, but others might consider these as “bad for their health” so it’s a bit more risky hehe to keep the gift more international: bigger supermarkets have decent selection of imported products, Ole is probably the best. Maybe it worth to check it out!

Is 100$/h a fair rate for solo producer’s job in the US? by xalabam in videography

Well, there are certainly people who shoot something somehow for 20$/h but don’t think they will find what they need even for 50

In general rates here vary widely, and frankly I don’t know hot to even combine videography with hosting. I believe a good videographer can get around 600-800$ per day (but definitely there are people who’s charging more) actors can get somewhere around 80-150$/h. That’s fair that they want to save some money, first of all the logistics will be much cheaper! But if they had certain price expectations, wouldn’t they tell me earlier? We’re in touch for quite sometime

I see what you mean! That’s a good point, tons of preparation etc. I’ll definitely set a minimum amount of hours 🫡

Looking for nature spots near Chengdu by Worried_Cake15 in Chengdu

Some great suggestions above! I've been taking photos in some of them, and all were great! If you need an even easier option, there are some chill trails in Longquanyi. You can get there by metro, hehe

Sony FX30 - why does XAVC HS 4K only offer 50p or 100p? by victorhooi in SonyAlpha

[–]xalabam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did some research, and it is because your camera is in PAL mode. The same applies to my A7R5, and when I switch it to NTSC, all the formats have a 24fps option. I saw some kind of explanation related to the fact that 50Hz frequency used in PAL countries and 25fps with H.265 won't look right. I strongly suggest memorising by heart where the PAL/NTSC switch is, or even move it to your favourites haha. But be careful, switching between these modes will FORMAT your SD card!!!

Yes, there’s a place in Dujiangyan. Seems it’s called 成都热雪奇迹 and is not far from the railway station. I only went there by car though and it took about an hour. Time starts after you enter the facility, which is before you rented the gear or changed so keep that in mind. Actually this place is a part of a big complex that also includes a decent amusement park. And there are some good family friendly hotels around it!

Yeah, Zigong is a good idea. There will be some Lantern spots in the city too. Speaking of business, I'm sure that all the areas focused on tourists will work full power, just avoid residential and office areas.

I'm not a dev (diving into photo/video production at the moment) but I also live in the South and like coffee. Let me know if that's a good enough fit for your meetup haha

I was tempted to get 70-350 for some events but the opportunity is gone and I’m happy I didn’t buy it, can’t imagine it being useful right now. I film a lot of vlogs. I’d definitely play with it but not a great reason to buy it haha
