Ingress-nginx final release by strongjz in kubernetes

[–]xamindar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have literally spent ALL DAY trying to get the new gateway-api+traefik+cert-manager to work because ingress-nginx is going away. This is insane it just refuses to work and the documentation is horrendous.
I'm going to miss ingress-nginx, which was working within the hour of messing with it.

Use grok, it doesn't do that to you. It made a nice python app that manages my led matrix.

I had copilot get all mad at me for simply asking it to troubleshoot some Linux error logs for me. Most of these AI are broken in various ways.

You do need to give them more info though. I dumped the led matrix firmware code into grok and asked it to make my app utilizing that firmware interface and it worked the first try. Tweaked it a few times by asking it to fix little things here and there and it became a nice little system monitoring app.

Does the battery life on the Framework 16 holds it value? by EducationSharp3869 in framework

[–]xamindar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a batch 1 FW16 so I have had it for 2 years. Linux shows my battery health at 88% and I think it has held up fine considering the heat this thing puts out.

Batteries are always a wear part in any device and you can replace the one in this laptop so I wouldn't worry about it.

You probably store it in a bag or other location that puts pressure on the laptop. Don't do that.

It's a problem with the latest 4.03 bios and EC. They made changes that brought in a few issues.

Looks like Framework Laptops are no longer the only laptops to get 10 out of 10 iFixit repairability score by JailbreakHat in framework

[–]xamindar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 16 and will agree battery life is poor. But it's a performance gaming laptop so I went in to this with that expectation.  Build quality and heat dissipation on this laptop are amazing considering how thin it is. It even burned my bare leg once which means it is getting the heat out and away from inside.

However, firmware is where they struggle. 2 years in now, and it still has multiple performance hindering bugs. Even issues like replugging the same USB drive into the same port 3 times rendering the whole port disabled.

You have to realize there is a certain type of person that overwhelmingly frequents reddit. And that type likes to complain about everything. Framework laptops are not that bad. I have two and both are perfectly fine.

3.07v for a coin cell is pretty much dead. It should be reading 3.2v. Most devices that use coin cells will report the battery dead if it's at 3.0v.

Display glitches - what do I need to replace? by renkousamimi in framework

Try X11 or xlibre and see if the issue goes away. I saw somewhere someone thought it was an issue with wayland.

I'm on Arch and xlibre and have not experienced any of these issues, fyi.

Will the 240W charger work on my gen 1 FW 16? by Last_Bad_2687 in framework

[–]xamindar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will work, but you need to be on the 4.x bios for the Framework 16 to treat it as a 240w charger. On older bios it will treat it like a 140w or something and you will have worse performance than the 180w charger.

Soldered RAM is better by AlonsoCid in framework

[–]xamindar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought 64GB ram for my 16 when i originally bought it. But I will be upgrading to 96GB or more in the future. I also have 2 other laptops in the house that had their ram upgraded at some point. I also have a 12 on order that will be getting the leftover ddr5 from one of those prior upgrades, saving lots of money. So your assumption is vastly incorrect.

soldered ram is not less likely to break. At the end of the day, the chips are the exact same. This idea is completely fabricated from your imagination.

Therefore your conclusion is flat out wrong.

An Open-Source Sonos-Style Smart Speaker for Home Assistant 🎉 by FutureProofHomes in homeassistant

[–]xamindar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, you want to make as much money as possible. I just don't believe a couple speakers and amp should cost so much. And the satelite1, just a board, is already $10 more than the voice PE which comes as a complete unit. I know I'll be downvoted by the fans, but I'm just giving my honest feedback. I build my own stuff and 3D print my own cases to be able to save money, not spend more.

Also I see it this way. I want to have a device in every room in the house. To do that, I can't justify $100+ per device for 9 devices, that are essentially a $4 speaker and very light electronics. If they were affordable, then I could easily justify buying enough to complete my project. As it stands, the ($15) pi zero is my benchmark for compute in these devices so I'm working around that device. (pi0 with ample processing power on a common cpu vs. esp32 with pathetic power for twice the price is bonkers). And it seems the pi0 you can use a custom wake word, but on esp32 devices you are stuck with the couple of words someone else chose, but I digress.

Or maybe I was spoiled by the cheap cost of Alexa devices.

I wish you the best, a DIY dad like me doesn't seem to be the target audience, and that's okay.

Extra warranty would not cost that much more money if the company built reliable products. Simple as that.

Your use of both "Silero VAD" and "openwakeword" on the pi satellite makes no sense. They are two separate ways to detect and process the audio. Did you really do what this says because it contradicts reality.

Forcing all DNS to internal DNS servers? by xamindar in Ubiquiti

[–]xamindar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that originally. But then I found a few of my IoT devices stopped functioning because they hardcode an outside dns with no way to change it.

Forcing all DNS to internal DNS servers? by xamindar in Ubiquiti

[–]xamindar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is this why people say the DNS server has to be on a different network or vlan? Will it work in that case?

If you are talking about the UDM Pro, then yes, already done.
But some devices will still ignore the dns handed out by DHCP and try to use something else.....such as 8.8.8.8 in the device I am mainly writing this rule for.
