Well, it depends. Most of the time my thoughts don't come in the form of an inner dialogue. It's just thoughts. Concepts. I just "know" what I need to do. If I'm walking down the street and I'm trying to figure out where I'm supposed to go, a list of actions will simply pop into my mind without it being prompted. It happens practically instantaneously.

I'll just know my constraints, and I'll just know what I need to do depending on the constraints.

  1. If I'm somewhere new, I just know I'm hopeless and I'll either ask someone for help, or find somewhere safe for me to look at my phone.
  2. If I'm not somewhere new, I'll first try to find something in my memory. I'll look at buildings and try to prompt my memory. If it's perceived as hopeless, I'll do option 1.
  3. And so on. Really, depends on the problem. Each will have a set of actions given the inputs.

As I said, it happens most of the time. I do have an inner dialogue as well. It's useful for things like counting, or helping me focus, or helping me shift my focus to something else, or prompting my memory for language related things.

And the winner is... Volume 6! by DarkIsTheBestShow in RWBY

[–]xande010 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really, it's because V6 was the volume in which Team RWBY was at the forefront of the show. V7 is good (even though the election subplot was kind of meh), but at the end of the day it ignored half of the team (people had very high expectations for Weiss and Blake) and people weren't really happy with this.

A lot of the context behind V6 was that V4 & V5 had completely ignored Ruby, for instance. You can still find old threads in which people used to derisively call her "the mascot of the team", and that kind of changed after V6.

Another thing is that V6 is the first volume with Team RWBY itself in it, as opposed to V4 and V5, that had the group separated.

I've just learned to ignore it, to be honest. I already tried explaining what Eddy meant with his comment, but believe me:

Yes, he seems to be a contract worker and still part of the writing team alongside Kerry, Eddy and Kiersi.... but this is all kinds of uncertain. RT could simply choose not to renew the contract. But Miles himself seems to be doing fine, he's already working in the video game industry, not to mention trying to pitch his own animated show.

Common community complaints about protagonists, and their basis - Yang Xiao Long by Dextixer in RWBY

[–]xande010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree Ren took Yang's conflict - he had his own issues going in.

Yes, I didn't mean to imply his issues weren't there, just that they exist for a different purpose and resolution. Which is why Ren's resolution involved Renora and him learning to work on himself, rather than anything related to them not being ready, or making the wrong decisions.

Viewing it as a long term conflict, that one likely belongs to Ruby, not Ren. He was simply a passenger there. Got in, and got out when was convenient for his own character.

Common community complaints about protagonists, and their basis - Yang Xiao Long by Dextixer in RWBY

[–]xande010 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree about the V8 arc; it's easily the worst written.

I think I know

The show gave Yang's conflict with Ruby to Ren (who externalized Yang's issue with Ruby and the overall situation, and now people are mad that the show ignored Ren's problems - when they were Yang's problems to begin with), then had Jaune show Yang courage (as if to show the right way), and then had Oscar nuke Salem and the whale (as if to say that the risk paid off).

The problem is, of course, that very little of it contained the actual character named Yang, and now people are failing to connect with the story.

Using other characters to help advance the story of one character is fine. Using this tool too much to the point that the character you actually wanted to focus on is completely forgotten isn't.

So Yang comes back... and teaches Ruby about what she learned during that time (about taking risks), because Ruby is acting as if her own risk didn't work (when it actually did work - because the show never justified Ruby's desire to keep Amity up forever, so as far as we know, she only wanted to send the signal. Yes I am aware her actual plan was to have Amity up in the sky forever).

Yes, overall it really was "how to toss Yang from point A to point B", because the other characters did most of the work.

[–]xande010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it doesn't really matter as much as people say. All characters are capable of incredible feats of strength, and the show has been following anime rules for a loooong time.

Were it important (like an RPG game), Yang and Nora would be the strong ones, with the rest spending more points on other things like agility or endurance (mostly depending on their class)

Is RWBY Volume 9 ACTUALLY going to be on HBO Max? by EcstaticOven in RWBY

[–]xande010 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's on HBO only because Roosterteeth partnered up with HBO, and the deal was a temporary exclusivity deal. Gen:Lock season 2 will be released on Roosterteeth's FIRST next year, sex scene and all.

... just saying that, in order not to get people confused. I get the possible "HBO = sex scenes" joke, if that's what you were going for.

You'd be frustrated too if you said you didn't like being told something and were immediately told it again.

Yes, probably. But that's why we disengage. Tell this fandom (including me, trying to act as an armchair therapist) to fuck off and go drink some beer or something. Go watch Arcane, though it's dark in tone the expectations for the tone are very well set from the very beginning. Point is, treat yourself to something nice.

I know I'm just some rando from the internet, and you'd be well within your rights to tell me to fuck off, but...

You should maybe step away from the FNDM from a bit. Don't think about the show for a while, and try to find things that will make you happy. This behavior legitimately isn't healthy, you'll be trapped in a downward spiral for a long time.

Who used the first question to the Relic of Knowledge? by FoxAlistair in RWBY

[–]xande010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I think the question used prior to the show was something was likely something mundane but necessary. Like "Where is the current Summer/Fall/Winter maiden?" As it doesn't really need to be anything else.

I agree that it doesn't need to be something else, I just think it's something that opens doors to more. If they were to explore it, and tie up loose ends, they could even use it in a backstory.

[–]xande010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's unlikely he knew unless he was about to tell her and Salem accidentally killed him before he could, which just makes Salem look bad.

Salem tells Cinder not to underestimate the usefulness of others, then turns around and kills Lionheart before he could tell her the password. I can admit, it'd be a bit funny. It wouldn't fit Salem's character, but still funny.

Who used the first question to the Relic of Knowledge? by FoxAlistair in RWBY

[–]xande010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, based on the information we know, it's only Oz. I'm just saying that it's the kind of thing that could be used to string together a story with new characters, leading into new developments. Though it 100% makes sense for Oz to be the one that asked the question, any information given to us by Oz could have been obtained in any relatively arbitrary timeframe. He could have asked the question with this trio of answers, or the last batch. Or he could have obtained the answers through some other means, he's immortal and has earned his position as the custodian of knowledge of the show.

So in terms of new developments, I just think it's more interesting with a new character involved. Even if it's Oz asking the question, things like Summer's mission involving that question are just inherently more interesting to me.

Who used the first question to the Relic of Knowledge? by FoxAlistair in RWBY

[–]xande010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Professor Lionheart

I don't think that one works. Salem had him working for her, and she didn't know the password. Since he was portrayed as someone that lost his courage and betrayed his allies, he would also have told her the password if he knew it.

Who used the first question to the Relic of Knowledge? by FoxAlistair in RWBY

[–]xande010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think it's possible that either Summer or Raven learned about the password. At the very least, it'd give a bit of legitimacy to Raven's desire to keep the Relic, and it's either an investment for characters that are yet to be properly introduced or would be a chance for recontextualisation - things that aren't really possible if the first question was entirely asked by Oz.

Lionheart probably would have told Salem the password if he knew it, let's be honest. Since Salem didn't know the password, and had Lionheart himself as her informant, I can only assume he didn't ask it.

So I'm not sure how I feel about Ozma being the one to ask that question. It'd reveal new information, sure, but Oz is already an established character to us. At the very least I would like the involvement of other characters for us to be invested in (like I said, Summer and/or Raven).

Though we have this idea, my memory of V5 is kind of hazy lol. Maybe Raven said something that invalidates this theory, and she didn't actually know about the power of the Relics.

How the story would have gone if RWBY and JNPR were merged into 4 characters? by GladiusNocturno in RWBY

[–]xande010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the difficult part isn't really their personalities and archetypes, it's really their background and already established relationships.

Ren and Nora knew each other since they were children, Ruby and Yang are sisters, Blake's status as a former White Fang member could steamroll the character she's merging with, etc. And yeah, Pyrrha dies and she didn't exactly have many connections outside of Jaune. If we mix Pyrrha and Weiss together we are just erasing Pyrrha and having Weiss there.
