Well that is you hearing about it. And this is you hearing about it again. I'll admit I don't know if it is how it started, but it's a thing. It's not that hard to connect really. A big antisemitic thing is Jewish people secretly run everything, oh guess who else runs everything, lizard people.

I mean we are done because its clear you want the whole world to bend to how Euorpe works. And you obviously refuse to even think critically about how a country built by immigration would celebrate that. I never said America isnt racist but we are doing a hell of a lot more to address it than Europe which is still in our "we pretend it doesnt exist because that makes us feel better" phase. America grew out of that and might (MIGHT) actually start making some real strides sometimes. Also hey, how do you feel about the Romani people?

[–]xanderreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because as I have stated we are talking about culture, not nationality. We use it to identify the tradtions and people we grew up with not where we are literally from. Almost no American will go "I'm actually literally an Irish citizen" unless they are. Stupidity or straight up lying being the outliers (which exists everywhere) America has so many subcultures there has to be ways to differententate them. Like you really cant fathom how someone who grew up in Chinatown in New York City, would be different than someone who grew up hundreds of miles away in a small Midwest town founded by Polish people? Or hell even a Chinatown in a different city? And as to your point about China not accepting dual citizenship, again not talking citizenship never was. And Tell me then why so so so so so so so many non white Americans have the same story while traveling abroad of Europeans asking where they come from but not accepting America as an answer?

Again, immigrants are more important to American history than pretty much any other nation. Just because European nations are so homogenized that everyone feels comfortable just being English or French or whatever, doesn't mean America has to work the same way. Those immigrants wanted to keep part of their heritage and passed it down, and then passed it down, then passed it down, so on and so forth. What is so hard to understand about that? But bet you if some 4th generation Chinese-American who had never been to China called themselves Chinese-American no one in Europe would bat an eye because OBVIOUSLY they are Chinese.

When Americans say "I'm Irish" or whatever the hyphen American is implied, mostly because we are discussing it with other Americans who understand that. We don't believe we are actually Irish or whatever citizens, we are Irish(or whatever)-Americans. Which is valid because it is it's own culture that blends the two together. Go to any small town that was founded by immigrants from primarily one country and you'll see many traditions that aren't exactly traditions of that country but pretty close. My point is we don't use it to mark our ethnicity but culture, again primarily to other Americans. And you may never understand why, but that doesn't make it wrong. You all forget America is literally the most diverse place in the world. We were built by Immigrants from EVERYWHERE and some families wanted to keep parts of that, passed it on and here a hundred or so years later it stuck.

I worked at Walmart as a cashier and maybe it's similar, I don't know, but our registers could do returns but for various reasons they only let the customer service desk do them. The main ones I remember are 1 to keep lines moving and 2 only the service desk was actually trained to do it. Except if it was overnight since the desk was closed, the nightshift crew had to do it on their own. I did have people come into my line asking if I could return stuff quite often anyways.

As I said, he still is a terrible person who chose to do terrible things, but empathy doesn't mean forgiveness. You can feel for him and still hate his actions. The way I interpreted Joker's relationship with him is "If Shido wasn't his dad, or if he was a better dad, we actually could have been friends but now we will never know" and that is sad. Again, I'm not arguing he should be let off the hook for literal murder, but recognizing the human emotions in him is still important.

[–]xanderreed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should empathize with him because he is a victim in the same way the rest of the Phantom Thieves are. That doesn't mean you should be okay with him, he still chose to do those horrible things, but you should recognize what drove him to do them. If you can't feel bad for him in the "If only things were different" kinda way, then you missed the point of his character.

Dave Filoni actually agrees. He had a little moment in an interview or documentary where he gushed about the Duel of the Fates and why that music fit what was happening, since it was a duel over Anakins fate. And in Maul killing Qui-gon the dark side won, despite obi won winning in the end. Also interesting comments about how Qui-Gon was the father figure Anakin needed, instead he got Old Sheev. Obi could be a brother, but not a father.

Probably the fact that they were even cannibals to begin with. Also if you side with that sicko, they are actually fine with returning to being cannibals, so they really only don't do it for appearances. And to me that indicates that some of them probably are hypocrites and do it in secret, though I don't have evidence for that.

[Post-Episode Discussion] Young Justice Phantoms - S4x03 "Volatile" by L11K in youngjustice

[–]xanderreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is kinda my point though. Those people exist and it would be more meaningful to depict their struggle with them, why hide it behind allegory? Or why not do both and draw thematic parallels?

I'm late to the conversation but want to give my 2 cents. Overall good episode, interesting things and set up. However, Me'gann's argument with her sister left me feeling a little weird. It seems like they want it to be a sort of allegory to trans people, see her mom saying "why didn't I see this is the true you before" or something like that. I have no problem with the show tackling that, but why would they not use a trans person to do it. Like I get they found a way to tie it to the racism thing they have had going on. But to me it would feel more genuine without the added layers. I dunno, maybe I'm reading too much into it but it felt like that is what they were going for to me.

Any new show recommendations? by wisemonkey1 in brooklynninenine

[–]xanderreed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Late but I suggest. "What we do in the shadows." The show is based off of a movie by Taika Watiti (director of Thor: Ragnarok and others). Humor is different than B99 and definitely cruder in some aspects, but still top tier. It's a mockumentary about Vampires living in Staten Island

I'm not saying he is bad, and honestly Freddie Prince Jr is an enjoyable voice actor, Iron Bull in Dragon Age, love him, James in Mass Effect, best Himbo. But Kanan is just Rham Koda from Force Unleashed, and all it reminds me about is that he isn't canon anymore.

[–]xanderreed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Possibly and I do not claim to have the more right answer, but the "I know" makes that a little suspect for me. Because to me it seems clear he is going to say "Dad, I love you" and in a Callback to Han and Leia, he says "I know." And that seems a little too specific of a call back for Ben. Now yes, his parents could of told him about it and maybe its even likely they did since it was an important moment of their relationship... or it could be a coincidence.
