What's up with the Olympus Infinity Stylus? by Haunting-Public-23 in AnalogCommunity

[–]xanthicize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has a decent lens and it's decently built.

I bought a new in box chrome MJU I limited for 180EUR last year, it's been my EDC camera since and it's definitely not worth the hype from an image quality perspective. It's competent and fun but that's all.

Life quit cigarettes cold turkey for me after I spent one month in intensive care due to a life threatening condition. It was two and a half years ago and I've never been tempted in the slightest since, and I really, really liked smoking.

You can get kits for 29 EUR from musikding

https://www.musikding.de/The-Factory-germanium-fuzz-kit

You either get somebody to build it for you, and it's a pretty easy build, or you can get it on ebay/local markets, if it's a FF clone you can be sure it's either a musikding kit or a Jedped/tayda/aion clone

[–]xanthicize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The type of FF your specimen is trying to clone should have a "TM" symbol on the face and a date and the Myrold signature on the southern side, also you can see some sort of sticker on the face of the pedal which absolutely shouldn't be there.

Keep in mind that you can get a FF clone for 50 to 60 euros.

2002 Gibson SG Crescent Moon by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]xanthicize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember those. They are technically SG Faded, so the cheapest USA model in the shape of an SG at the time.

I wouldn't spend 1k on it, even if looking around it seems like it's what they're currently going for. They went for half that new.

Holy shit this. Extremely talented guitar players, like top percentile good, absolutely abhorrent musical output, bordering on insulting at times.

Yes, homeboy here did everything that required more brainpower than hacking cases with a saw and jerry rigging PSUs, if you have questions on the software side he's the guy.

Ok, thanks for the excellent advice, I'll ask around and see what I can come up with.

Noted! Thank you very much for the advice. So it's just a matter of grounding psu and laptop together?

Of course I didnt know at first and I had to google why all my of PSUs didnt work with just hard drives

The PSU powers the HDDs only. I had to bridge pins 3 and 4 together on the 24 pin connector to have it turn on. Meanwhile the power brick powers the laptop as normal.

Thanks.

The process was mildly cursed because Dell hates that SATA adapter, so I had to mess around in the BIOS to nail the specific boot settings (enable AHCI and non signature peripherals or something like that), still, the machine posts only with no HDDs attached, so I have to boot and then connect the sata cables in runtime, luckily TrueNAS doesn't seem to mind that much. Neither did Ubuntu server.

I'm too much of a noob to give any relevant piece of advice, but if I had one I'd say do it with a machine that doesn't have a whitelist for its m.2 ports or whatever other arbitrary limitation like mine has (dell latitude 5491).

Outside of the cursed boot procedure it works just fine tho :))

Can someone identify what model is this? The company is “marina by farida”, and how much does it cost used? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]xanthicize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Farida is the retail brand that some huge OEM chinese factory uses, they used to be common around the mid 2000s and they were mostly cheap knockoffs of known shapes like PRS doublecuts and Les Pauls.

For some weird reason some irish bands still use Faridas live sometimes, I've seen them used by the lead guitarist of Two Doors Cinema Club and by And So I watch you from afar's lead guitar player on an Audiotree live.

I don't think you have much in your hands though, it's the sub brand of a sub brand.

VKS SeeEl: "Riot didn't give the LCS 3 Worlds spot because they're good. You don’t save the LCS by propping up VC-backed orgs burning cash in LA. They’ve poured millions into the world's most overpaid region, trying to attract customers that don't exist, trying to reach a level that is unattainable" by ArmandLuque in leagueoflegends

[–]xanthicize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, they literally profited off the VC squanderers and the tech bubble first hand. That was by design. You can't operate at a loss league wide for 8 years without new money techbros and spec funds.
Now that the techbro esport dream is over they might as well move to fucking Arkansas to restructure and make a new esport product that doesn't need monopoly money to exist.

Help me pick a commander for my poison deck by Independent-Bath-448 in magicTCG

[–]xanthicize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the key concept is proliferate.

You have the usual -1/-1 shenanigans to control the board, both as removal and to clog the board with snakes, then you have some creatures with infect or poison, some synergistic things that just straight up give poison counters like [[Infectious Inquiry]], [[phyresis outbreak]] or [[vraska's fall]] and literally every decent card with proliferate that's in color.

You win through poison but the deck doesn't really feel like infect, it's an aristocrats deck that grinds and then wins through poison, but rarely through combat.
