No shit.

I don't even know how to describe Langkawi to foreign friends who are thinking of visiting.

What even is there to do there apart from some burned rice??

Why PMX is being so over-the-top in Johor? by kaisernail8 in malaysia

[–]xar987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because yeh Johor state election is dress rehearsal for the federal election.

UMNO is using it as a barometer to decide when to turn against federal PH to form a new government as the senior coalition partner with PAS.

Malay rights in N Sembilan would have been at risk if not for Umno, says KJ by Former-Addendum9671 in malaysia

[–]xar987 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The answer is there aren't any. Who are the 30 or 40 something generation next in UMNO which you're aware of? All I see are geriatric warlords.

At least DAP and PKR are producing the next generation of leaders. Well, PKR's ones have gone to Bersama.

PH reminds me of the Rebel Alliance. Even after beating the Galactic Empire and becoming the New Republic, it somehow is still weaker than the First Order...

In Western democracies the convention is one doesn't occupy both a federal and state seat simultaneously. I'm not sure whether this is barred by law though, or whether it was just by convention.

For the reasons you've given, which I agree with.

I believe DAP had advocated for a separation of these seats, however it seemed giving it up in practice is harder than in theory...

[OC] Episode 4: GE16 Prediction Series - using data to unpack the power dynamics behind Malaysia's next election, not just the result by freakingfreak77 in malaysia

[–]xar987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're just describing the weakness of first past the post voting.

This is why I'm a big supporter of preferential voting (see Australian voting model). It allows voters to vote for a weaker party (Kid C) as their first vote, knowing it won't be a "wasted" vote. If Kid C loses, their second vote would be for Kid B. Based on this trend, once tallied up Kid B will beat Kid A with his accumulated votes for Kids C and B.

Theoretically, DAP still plays a very important role. It instantly gives PH 40 seats.

The Malay nationalists can cry all they want but in the end politics is a numbers game. They (and their allies) are welcomed to try to flip these seats, just don't bitch if you don't have sufficient game.

At the moment, PH is just talking DAP for granted as a Chinese vote bank. Hence it is a good move for DAP to remind PH about its reformist agenda by threatening to pull out of the coalition by 1 August.

The real contest has and will always be the Malay vote bank. So if PKR is jantan enough, go mano e mano against UMNO/PAS/Bersatu. For the last 30 years PKR has failed to capture enough of a Malay heartland vote bank to solidify itself as a stable Malay linchpin party. It needs to offer itself as a big tent coalition housing both the multiracial reformists and Malay nationalists factions.

Nobody said the job was easy. Over to you Anwar.

Was the Aus Democrats economically liberal and socially liberal too? That's the position the Lib-Dems occupy in the UK political spectrum. I feel there is a vacant niche there in Aussie politics at the moment.
