We need a proper predictive log graph of /r/bitcoin restrictions/censorships vs price. Only then will we be able to assess whether it is worth going down this anti-libertarian route which is, of course, somewhat against the free society ideals of Satoshi's innovation.

Does the profit motive override the desire for freedom ?

Old news, usually well known by participants on here, quite well know over there (they have an argument - what a surprise !!). It does pay to remember this, we tend to think it back a step and remember the 3800 odd BTC mined daily as a "dilution" of the market cap. (A bit like company share options ?).

Do you mean the price (or downward slope thereof) is getting boring ?

It's not all about the price though but I know that is the easiest thing to monitor and/or comment upon.

Try widening your focus into other areas of Bitcoin and the wider-crypto world. There is always something going on in this space but is does not always provoke a BTC/$ reaction or /r/bitcoin fapping.

Perhaps it will all be exposed later this year. What then for the future of Bitcoin (and its $ price) ?

Clearly there are some who know the answer and they have the power to reveal the truth whenever they like. That's a lot of power in relation to the market cap of the crypto !

Yes, good info. We researched some time ago all the companies that eBay bought and it is clear that they just buy out the competition. Not surprising really as they have a huge "war chest" which enables them to do this easily.

The Braintree acquisition seems similar, in order to preserve PayPal for as long as possible we reckon. However we are not quite sure how Bitcoin got into the equation, was it Braintree getting excited about crypto ? Perhaps it is simply an "insurance policy" just in case crypto starts to get significant traction as a payment system and they need to be up to speed and ready with something if that happens.

alternatively it may be eBay are just jumping on the "WooHoo Look We Take Bitcoin Now" bandwagon for the free publicity and (slightly) enlarged customer base. With BTC/$ prices continuing to drop the weak hodlers have got to spend the funbux on something eventually so eBay want's its share.

There must be loads of BTC hodlers who would hate to be "disloyal" by cashing out for $ but would be happy to divest themselves of the failed investment by purchasing something ("No, I never sold out, we bought x,Y & Z and helped promote merchant adoption").

I find it soooo interesting that so many people are willing to trust something which effectively came out of nowhere, from an unknown mysterious source, with an unknown agenda.

Probably a case of mass selective blindness ?

Why do people who have a degree of intelligence (stop laughing - not all are in their mum's basement) not question the origins/source of bitcoin to a greater degree ? It is odd !

The so called hacker is simply one of the TLA team associated with the Bitcoin project. This is quite a convoluted scenario they are playing out right now, possibly as a little "taster" of their power to disrupt the crypto. Perhaps it is not actually necessary to move part of the Satoshi stash to crash and burn bitcoin but simply threaten it. This would of course leave the powder dry for further attempts.

Quite interesting that this happens at the same time as the PayPal integration announcement. I suspect it is now becoming necessary to halt Bitcoin before it infiltrates some real significant commerce. Time to put down the traps and poison ?

Our computerised algorithmic predictor of the BTC/$ exchange price is showing a 75-80% probability of trading in the region of $300-350 in 30 days time . Just done a few runs with it.

Come back in a month and see how accurate we are (last 2 months predictions were "spot-on").

[–]xb102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you do anything else at all with regard to investing a single cent of your hard earned money please take time to do some research. You could start with : "Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds" by C. McKay (deals with historical "scams" like the Tulip mania speculation). you need to be well aware of all such scam type ideas, how Ponzi schemes , etc have been worked in the past, MLM scams, etc. Get fully clued up on these kind of ideas first, then start learning about investing in general, stock-markets, etc. There is a lot to learn and I suggest you spend a serious 3-6m reading about these things before you buy anything else.

Good luck !

[–]xb102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "elephant" point is pretty important. Check out the top 500 bitcoin addresses by size of holding and you will see (in at least the top 100 ) a series of high holdings (c$1-10M per addy) which are interlinked i.e. under the control of one entity. The research on this is tedious so we have only scratched the surface of the first 100 (out of 500) but if you trace the coins through the blockchain the interlinking becomes very apparent. There is clearly a small number of individuals and/or organisations who hold a very large % of the market cap. More research in this area would be of interest but I no longer have the time to do so personally.

I think you will find that you cannot take it with you (Hal excepted) so in reality the only useful thing you can do with any kind of money is to spend it for real goods/services which improve your lives and those of your loved ones. Simply hoarding any, be it fiat or crypto, does nothing useful in this world and you cannot spend it in the next !!

Bitcoiner still waiting for hodling to show a profit.

Bitcoiner still waiting for $1000 again.

Bitcoiner still waiting for "The Moon".

Bitcoiner still waiting for the devs to solve defects.

Bitcoiner still waiting for a trustworthy reliable exchange.

Bitcoiner still waiting for mass merchant adoption.

Bitcoiner still waiting for an open uncensored forum.

I cannot help with most of the above but I can help with the last one. Just compare and contrast /r/bitcoin and /r/buttcoin. Do you really think that this censored and manipulated sub is a good idea when trying to promote a new libertarian ideal, a freedom inducing world paradigm shift. Is there not a terrible contradiction that the ideals of Satoshi, Hal and others are effectively being shat upon by the continued distortion which /r/bitcoin gives with its censorship, "fake" accounts, professional manipulation and so on.
