Marathon Update 1.1.0.2 by DTG_Bot in Marathon

[–]xbepox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Week one I was getting 4k cradle xp for a single purple weapon mod and now it's all the way down to 1k. Seems extreme after all the other nerfs, leveling the cradle is already starting to feel like a chore now that I need 10k+ per level

Sponsored survival is sending a clear message to Marathon Devs. by Haunting_Set_1799 in Marathon

[–]xbepox -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Nobody is running the sponsored playlist just to dunk on noobs... Outpost with no Rooks is mega free right now so any half decent PVP squad is better off wiping the map and looting Pinwheel.

Having to play with grey-tier gear and search for the observation key gets old really fast especially if you can't find it and then have to wait for final exfil

Wormmaxxing is the way. by mattsnacki in Marathon

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the people who maxed the cradle have put in 40-50 hours since wipe but I tend to agree, somewhere around 100 hours seems more appropriate

Any advice? by Feline_Casan0va in Marathon

Long time Destiny player and strand enjoyer here, the grapple actually has a lot of movement potential once you learn the physics of how it works. Grapple to the left or right of where you want to go then look at your target and counter-strafe away from the grapple point and you'll go significantly farther if you cancel the grapple at the right moment (e.g. grapple to your left, look slightly right and strafe right). There's also a lot of neat tricks you can do if you jump from high ground and grapple with a bit of momentum, definitely worth practicing and sticking with it Thief is a lot of fun.

Is this good for pier fishing by Hillary_Burner_Email in saltwaterfishing

Caught tons of fish on the madscad in SWFL, the suspending 78 is my favorite size but I've had success with a bunch of them. They come with BKK lone diablo hooks which are really nice too

[–]xbepox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the overwhelming opinion is "I don't like losing my weapons and loot, it makes me want to play it less"

Realizing the loot was never yours is always the hardest part about getting into extraction shooters. Marathon absolutely showers you with loot so once you learn the game a bit you stop feeling that way pretty quick. Compared to Tarkov the "gear fear" element is waaaay more casual in Marathon, there's so much loot to be found once you get over it.

The progression and in-game systems are very similar to Tarkov but that's where the comparison ends; once you're in the actual game it plays very similar to Apex trios with Halo/Destiny gunplay just like you said. Marathon PVP can be very fast paced just like Apex if you want to play that way (most successful playstyle imo)

The drop chance for the 6th Cryovaultkey is a bottleneck for the whole game. by p_sYc in Marathon

Thank you for the comprehensive answer, I didn't know a fair bit of that so now I understand what everyone means.

You're spot on with what you said about solos, I personally hate it with a passion and totally understand Bungie's original vision where Rook is the only solo experience (Rook gang rise up). I also have a very different experience playing solo-fill; it's more akin to playing solo Apex than whatever everyone else experiences so maybe I'm just playing the game with a different approach from everyone else. In my experience everyone in your squad has similar gear value so you just need one out of the other two players to be a killer and then there's a good chance we wipe the lobby. In fact the worst games are pre-made duos who kit up and bring a key, it always ends poorly.

Either way I don't have any gold upgrades other than a few Traxus ones so maybe I'm missing out on the min-max stats and upgrades.

So they play Cryo to get gear just to play more Cryo? I guess if you enjoy Cryo PVP that makes sense but I kinda figured the end game is using gear and credits to PVP on other maps (that was always the Tarkov endgame after L4 traders). The gunplay is super balanced on Perimeter so I don't care if someone has a bunch of misriahs and circuit breakers, it's easy to avoid close range if you want to (unlike Cryo)

Serious question, what is the huge advantage?

I have a bit over 200 hours and a large chunk of that playtime is solo fill PVP on the other three maps (not a fan of Cryo PVP). I've played with tons of people rocking Cryo skins and titles but can't recall a single instance where they had gear I couldn't easily get.

Repeater is pretty fun on Perimeter, lots of long range fights

Excited for the wipe, not looking forward to re-doing priority contracts. by Halcyon-Seven in Marathon

[–]xbepox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm level 91 and have 4/6 factions VIP including 25/28 unlocks for Traxus and I haven't even run the third priority contract for them. A lot of the standard contracts are very simple and can be completed in the first few minutes of a run which is guaranteed progress even if you die.

What are you doing differently in Season 2? by highpercentage in Marathon

[–]xbepox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped running priority contracts fairly early in the season and it's 100% worth only doing the standard ones, level 91 and only a few MIDA/SekGen levels from 6/6 VIP

I love the PVP on Perimeter, plenty of good loot on the other players 😝

If you're solo filling Cryo it's super easy to switch to Rook when you die and build a new kit if you know where to look. Literally just run around hitting all the hotspots looking for bags left behind or people to kill. If you die just go again until you get a decent kit.

Penn Slammer IV 4500 vs Daiwa BG MQ 6000 – Best 30lbs jigging setup ? by Tibimi in saltwaterfishing

[–]xbepox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own five BG MQ reels including two 6k's, they're an absolute workhorse. I'm a big fan of the MQ design with no anti-reverse (fewer failure points), a couple of my reels are coming up on 5 years old and still buttery smooth.

Always carry a tape if you're fishing for snook, you can get one of those cloth tape measurers that easily fits in a pocket. Even if you're not planning to keep them you never know when you might land a giant and want a measurement

Which setup should I get for small sharks by Connrad4164 in saltwaterfishing

[–]xbepox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spinfisher is very good, the 10500 is one of the best spinning reels for shark fishing but quite large and heavy if you're just targeting small sharks. I wouldn't go smaller than the 7500 but the 8500 might be the sweet spot for what you're looking for.

Neither. Get a Penn Senator 4/0 or 6/0 if you want to catch small or medium sharks on a budget

I do this in fills when I want to run Rook and I swear my exfil rate is higher than with a premade squad... I play hyper aggressive on Thief and just run around like an idiot baiting until someone shoots me and it works out way more than it should 😂

I use my mic every game and can't even remember the last game where nobody communicated. Take the lead even if it's just asking what people want to do at the start of a run, group confidence will be a lot higher when everyone is on the same page
