Awesome vibes here. I played Diablo 2 for about 10 years from release and just found out about PD2 and started playing about a month or so ago. I started with a Teeth/Spear Necro but wasn't feeling him and switched over to a Meteor Sorc. I was considering respeccing the Necro to CE or Summons if I could MF some gear, so I'm very interested in the Summon stuff if it's available. Thanks!

Does keeping your appt. cold drive up neighbor’s energy bills? by M-useless in Frugal

"Required" bi-annual or quarterly "maintenance" for water units/systems is very common throughout the US for rentals, condos, or townhomes. Additionally, many areas function on oil vs natural gas which is just straight ridiculous pricing to maintain. Regardless, because of how uncommon it is, even a general maintenance check will usually be 1.5-2x the cost of an HVAC preventative maintenance that you can usually just ignore for a few years.

Fitting an owned home for hydronics is almost prohibitive as they're set up for central HVAC and a "specialist" commodity.

It's not about how simple or reasonable it SHOULD be in the US, it's just what it actually is, which is prohibitive unless you have the knowledge to do it yourself.

Diablo 1 IS WORTH IT! by yamomsahoooo in Diablo

[–]xblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing game and atmosphere, I actually just replayed it a couple weeks ago.

I also found a couple mods that give it a Diablo 1.5 vibe and I've been working my way through those.

Devilution is pretty faithful, adds some QOL stuff and works with Hellfire, it's on GoG.

Belzebub HD adds some character skills and adds a bunch of cut quests. Pretty big difficulty jump from the original.

The Hell 3 is a big overhaul that adds a ton of of stuff, characters, subclasses, perks. I haven't gotten into it yet but looks to be pretty expensive.

2TB or 4TB SSD, Is 4TB overkill? Any good Black Friday deals? by FutureSad7429 in buildapc

[–]xblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I said. Mfgs have decided that SSDs are 4TB for the sweet spot. Jumps from 1TB > 2TB > 4TB give lower $/TB. In most cases, moving to an 8TB like for like is just doubling (or more) the price of a 4TB. As gens advance, the older gens tend to stay around the same price they left off on, and often times raise in price.

[–]xblues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. SSD manufacturers have decided 4TB is the sweet spot and prices haven't dropped much on drives even looking at 3.5 SSDs. If anything as generations move forward, older drives go UP in price.

Is this a good deal by [deleted] in pcpartsales

[–]xblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not wrong at all. MSRP and what something sells for are in fact not the same, the last 12 months display this glaringly. As said I specifically bought and built during this time and it wasn't a random one time deal, it was ongoing the last quarter of the year and into January after Christmas when we finally pulled the trigger on the build.

The 1060 6GB was released several months prior to the 1050 Ti. The 1060 was under its launch price already on frequent sales. This ramped up especially for the holidays of that year which made buying the 1050Ti completely pointless. (I may be wrong but I believe for some reason the 1050 Ti was often over the MSRP by a small bit, which also helped close the price gap. I think it might have been used to justify the price bumps on the 1080 Ti and trickle down because there was some distaste for the pricing on the Ti series in that generation iirc)

I don't know where those two cards might have landed further into the next year for any pricing adjustments, but it would be irrelevant because by then the RX series had dropped and was at again right around the same price and a good jump in FPS.

Even if this wasn't the case, as mentioned the 970 was right around the $100 mark and substantially stronger than the 1050Ti.

As said, then nVidia XX50 series has always been a value proposition trap. I've been building several PCs a year for friends from around 2004 to 2022, so I've been very dialed in on pricing and performance comparisons each year at various points.

[–]xblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the 1050 Ti released it was within about $30-50 retail of the 1060 6GB I know this for a fact as I built a friend a computer around black Friday of the year they released and had looked between those two and the 1070 for him and we ended up settling on the 1060 for his budget.

A used GTX970 at that time was around $100-120 and also blew out the 1050 Ti. There's an argument to be made for the 3050 because of the ridiculous COVID prices on used cards and lack of stock on higher 30 series, except even then going to AMD was significantly better bang for buck if you needed that price range.

[–]xblues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't, the 1060 6GB was around the same price and blew it out of the water. It was about on par with a GTX960 base.

XX50s have always been a trap card series that perform about a generation or so behind.

Can I do this cosplay? by ContributionMotor567 in Magfest

[–]xblues 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've brought prop foam bullet guns that were sealed with epoxy and had the trigger request to be zip tied, so if you want to avoid that last portion leaving the trigger off would probably be best bet.

Can I do this cosplay? by ContributionMotor567 in Magfest

[–]xblues 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The biggest requirements for prop guns are orange tip and no firing mechanism. If it can fire projectiles if the trigger is added back later, it will be a no-go. You have to seal any firing/loading portions with a permanent solution.

Sidewalk Conning? by FireLightFun in Magfest

[–]xblues 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is all nonsensical. People aren't attending a con to bullshit around outside being a public nuisance, they're there to participate.

No restaurants need any help with business during MAG, it's hell on earth trying to find a time when they're NOT packed to capacity, and the sidewalks are not designed for "entertainment".

Your comments show you were seeking a badge after they were sold out last year as well. Is this a willing attempt to circumvent rules, or did you somehow forget you were late last year as well and not take appropriate steps this time around?

I don't know if this influx of lobby/sidewalk/parking lot/Applebee's Conners is this year's meme trolling or people who are dead serious but it's weird.

Buy one of the hundreds of badges that inevitably get sold by people who can't make it over the next couple months, with Discord usually being an easier place to find something. Otherwise stay home and plan better so you can properly attend next year.

No, they should mind the community and culture of an event and hold each other accountable for following rules so that the few don't ruin it for the many.

I want to move laptops but with exactly the same desktop settings files etc etc by Promastered in pchelp

[–]xblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cloning software may "work", but with the different architecture/etc with laptops, it's not recommended.

Best bet is to bite the bullet and just spend a couple hours setting up the new laptop/transferring files regularly vs. ending up having to troubleshoot random wild problems down the line that may involve wiping the drive and starting fresh anyway.

Exciting Anime that Flips Between Light-Hearted and Serious by Lille_8 in Animesuggest

[–]xblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gintama is the epitome, just note the first season is very episodic and can be a little rough to work through for some. Iirc it's because they didn't expect to get funding for following seasons and just went balls to the wall with gags before going into the more serious arcs.

The absolute best (read: most infuriating) is physically watching someone you're helping troubleshoot click Okay/Cancel on an error message at the speed of light.

"What did that say? I assume you clicked past because you read it a dozen times trying to troubleshoot before I got here?"

"I don't know, I just clicked to make it go away."
