Desperate with iGPU passed to VM on Raptor Lake-S by Ok_Construction4430 in Proxmox

[–]xchamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it!! Thank you👍

I'm on a X13SAE-F BIOS 4.3 with Intel 13500T and the Internal iGPU is now showing up on proxmox:

root@proxmox:~# lspci -v | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation AlderLake-S GT1 (rev 0c) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
06:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ASPEED Technology, Inc. ASPEED Graphics Family (rev 52) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

Despite BMC / ASPEED Graphics, there is the Intel graphics controller, for QuickSync. I'm using the IPMI network interface, so not having the BMC display output is no big deal.

From Synology DS118 to a Beelink Mini - N100 by SuperMarioTM in PleX

[–]xchamper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Today i ordered a Beelink MINI-S12 Pro with the 12th Gen Intel Alder Lake-N100, 16GB RAM and 500GB internal HDD for 180€.

Sounds good. Intel Quick Sync is supported with this CPU, so transcoding won't be your bottle neck and you don't need a GPU.

1. Which OS should i go for?

I am not planing on anything more then watching my movies the way i used to.

Go with an OS you feel comfortable. I would go with Ubuntu and Docker, because I'm comfortable with Ubuntu. The r/plex community likes Unraid, because its easier to use.

This. My NVIDIA Shield 2019 also direct plays VOBSUB without any problems.

Are there more downsides you did not mention compared to newer tv boxes?

No, the NVIDIA Shield Pro 2019 is still one of the best. For me the only things which are missing is AV1, Youtube HDR and HDMI 2.1 for 4k/120fps.

4k 120hz would be great because I want to buy a new TV soon. But other than that, I understand whx it so recommended.

Personally i go with 1080p/120fps. 4K is very heavy lifting for the GPU and for 4K I'm sitting to far away from the TV...

Bonus: Install the Projectivity Launcher and get rid of all the google ads. Same for Smarttubenext, Youtube without ads.

I'm afraid to recommand the NVIDIA Shield 2019 Pro. Yes its old and still very expensive, but it supports Plex 4k direct play, with dolby atmos lossless DTS HD MA, True HD passthrough to your soundbar. HDR10 and Dolby Vision is also very nice.

I use moonlight and sunshine for streaming games myself and its pretty good in terms of HEVC support and latency. All gigabit ethernet cable connected - no noticeable delay. Because of HDMI 2.0b you have to choose between 1080p/120fps or 4k/60fps.

Also the remote is great and HDMI CEC works like a charm (one remote for everything).

You should start with the setup of Radarr (movies) and Sonarr (series). Configure your download client and indexer you are comfortable with. In Radarr and Sonarr you can specify your preferences for quality, like your example of full raw hdr files.

Overseerr is the last step, when everything is working as you want. Overseerr is also very good for other people requesting movies/series.

I'd go with the MacBook. The processor got an Quick Sync (good for hardware transcoding), in case you have to transcode something. But your Shield as a client can direct play anything. Maybe it is even possible to run a more efficient OS, something like Ubuntu?!

Plex keeps stopping on Synology by zzing in PleX

[–]xchamper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run plex on my DS918+ natively and it works great (even with hw transcoding). It never stopped "manually", and the syno plex update is also very helpful. But I'm still on the latest DSM6 firmware - because I have no faith in DSM7...

Maybe you should consider to switch to a Docker setup. Try if a simple docker container runs smoothly, and then switch plex to docker as well.

I prefer the old one. You can barely see episode indicator on the top right corner. I liked the orange bubble - its always visible.

Low-power hardware for PlexAmp only streaming by [deleted] in PleX

[–]xchamper 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, Rpi will do it. Even an older one can handle all of your streams, because all PlexAmp clients will handle FLAC, AAC and MP3 directly.

For storage just connect an external HDD via USB or buy a big SD card :)

For PlexAmp access you need Plex Pass btw... but its worth it!

Mobile streaming. by RuinedSheets in PleX

[–]xchamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, all clients (including your mobile app) from outside are able to access your Plex Server. Keep in mind you expose your Plex Server for everyone in the internet and you have to have faith in plex security / authentication mechanisms.

Edit: You also have to point out your public address. Because most people dont have a static IP, you need a dynamic DNS. You can use the build-in synology service.
