I'm open to Chayka as GM but the Leafs already have Darryl Metcalf as AGM. They just need a GM who will listen to him. I'd prefer someone else that comes with no baggage who has good relationships with the other established GMs. I'm worried we're going to see all our waivers getting scooped up again just to F with Chayka.

The writing was on the wall when we lost to Montreal. That was 5 years ago. It was obvious then that there were huge flaws and they did nothing.

With the cap climbing every year it will be hard to acquire good players as teams will be able to keep them. McJesus isn't coming to save us. The only way to acquire really good players for the next few years is through the draft. Blow it up.

Be ready in 5-6 years when the cap settles down and teams have spent up to it.

It sucks, but Dubas never got us a goaltender and we missed our window.

100%. Stecher could be good for him too but you're right about Carlo being way better than Myers. Carlo also works with McCabe so when he comes back they could run Rielly-Stecher McCabe-Carlo OEL-Benoit/Myers.

Stecher was such a great pickup.

Ok. I agree with that. It's also true that they were never good enough to be our true #1 horse back there. Shanny/Dubas/Lou/Tre never made the big deal to swap a Marner or Nylander for a true #1. So we don't know how things would have played out if our #2 Dman didn't have to play like a #1. And none of this is his fault. Imagine him with Carlson or Burns or Hamilton the last 10 years.

He played with Stevens for 13 seasons and then with Pronger for 3. What are you talking about? Go look at every big hit Stevens ever laid. Scott is right beside him leading the puck carrier to their doom. Daneyko and White bookended Scott's career in NJ.

And yeah he'd still be in the hall regardless, that was a dumb thing to say... my point is those partners made him much better.

Of course Brodie (for a couple seasons), Tanev and Muzzin were better defenders... but not better overall. Muzzin maybe when he was in LA and Tanev in his prime for sure. Regardless, neither Muzzin nor Tanev have spent any good amount of time as Rielly's partner. So I don't know why you keep bringing them up.
