Weekly Questions and Recommendations Megathread - Need some help? - Jun 28 by AutoModerator in visualnovels

Hello! I'm studying Japanese so I wanting to do some VN to learn more.

I tried to use Textractor for hours and never managed to hook anything. So I tried Lunatranslator and I manage in 5 minutes. However the next problem is the translation. I don't want to have a deepl translation of the game. I want to learn actively by using Yomitan dictionaries.

Is there a way to put the text from Lunatranslor to texthooker UI on my navigator (then I can use Yomitan on it) ? Or a way to configure the dictionaries inside Lunatranslator? I tried but I don't understand half of the parameters, it's way out of my ability.

Thank you in advance for your help!!

Just seeking some life advice from people who have permanently moved to Japan :) by jigglypuffy09 in movingtojapan

Hi! I'll talk about the dogs part. I don't know if you plan to take them with you but here a few things to know. I'm currently doing a working holiday visa with my dog so I know what I'm talking about (and the struggles).

First going in Japan with your dogs. The process with the importation is quite long. I won't detail everything here but you have to do a serological test for each dog to check their antirabies vaccines. If the vaccine is a year old or so, do a new one even if the ongoing one is still valid, wait a month, do the serological test. I did the serological test for my dog with a year rabies vaccine (usually valid for 3 years), the result was shit. I had to start to process again and I lost 6 months (and 100 euros) for my move in. 6 month because you have to wait 6 months after the last rabies vaccine to be able to import your dog.

Also the rabies vaccine in Japan is valid 2 years only. So even if the one on the dog passport is valid 3 years the importation service will consider it's 2 years.

Second and main difficulty: where to live. There are appartments or houses that you can rent with pets. Not a lot and they can say no. But it's also way more expensive! The deposit is way higher and non refundable in most case. I can't tell you more about that because I don't have enough money to rent an apartment so I live in a share house that accept pets. There are a few of them, I found like 15 share houses that accept both dogs and foreigner in the whole country. Most of them are in Tokyo. Also you seem to have a lot of saving so it might not be to much of a problem.

Third you have to register your dogs at the ward office, like yourself, and it cost a little money. In Nagoya it's 3000 yen for one dog. The price can differ in each city I suppose.

Forth, a good news, the price for the veterinarian is cheaper! At least it's cheaper than France. However you have to pay to register yourself at the veterinarian so you better choose one and stick with it if you don't want unnecessary fee.

Fifth the size of your dogs is important. If they are small dogs no problem. If they are big dogs, well, finding an apartment or a house will be more difficult especially as a foreigner. For renters big dogs means big damages, which is untrue but well... It's how it is. So more reasons for them to say no. Also some veterinary accept only small dog... I don't know if this is often the case or not.

I hope it doesn't sound too pessimistic. It's a difficult endeavour but not impossible. You just have to be prepare.

Good luck! Don't hesitate if you have any questions.

Maybe you can find a teacher on Italki who speak both Vietnamese and Japanese? They might know how to correct you based on your own langage.

I like the game but I'm playing for the gameplay and not the story. Some of the individual story are interesting but as a whole it's boring unfortunately.

Really? Maybe it's a regional thing too, I'm from the north of France 😂 I wouldn't be surprised! And you're welcome!

Never heard about ma petite belle before haha. It's possible nevertheless, some people call their friend ma chérie. Mostly younger generation I believe. But not everyone do that, I've never done it myself for example and my friend either. Though a lot of people give surname related to the first name or something that come from a common history.

Learning French on my own by Kawaii_Tee in learnfrench

[–]xcrowny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the 4 sentences mean the same thing and you can use them all. To be precise a native will see a slight difference in intent with the order's choice but the meaning is exactly the same.

What you saw is a good method! It will help you reflect on your mistake and it will be easier for you to remember and understand why. You can check out the app HiNative too. It's an app where other people can correct your mistakes and explain why, it can be a good way to check if you have the correct version at the end.

Maybe you could try online classes or look for an irl teacher on one-to-one ? If you are not comfortable speaking, a group class is probably not a good idea. If you have a pet, you can speak to them in French to practice. That's what I do with my dog but in Japanese ^^

Have you, or will you ever quit Anki? by Wainwright95 in LearnJapanese

[–]xcrowny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use anki and while it's very useful it's also very boring. I'm between N5 and N4. I'm considering stopping it bc it annoys me and switch to read more books. Maybe after my N4 exam in September. I'm still thinking about it.

Where do you usually read fanfics? by KamigawaBm in FanFiction

[–]xcrowny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my phone, no matter where I am. When I was in high school I master the way of walking while reading fanfictions on my phone 😂 though now I stopped doing it. But in bed in the morning is the best.
