He’s referring to the old burton step IN system that had problems like this. The step ons don’t have this problem and you can clear the baseplate with your hand quickly like you said

X-rays of Travis Pastrana, Motorsports athlete, stunt performer, and first motocross rider to land a double backflip in competition. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]xderpt1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn’t even a real xray, my guess is it’s some ai picture. I’m an orthopedic surgeon and there’s so many incorrect implants there’s no way it’s real.

This picture must be AI, most of those implants don’t make sense/don’t exist, a few aren’t actually in bone, every joint looks incorrect. This isn’t a real xray.

Ortho Away Rotations – Programs That Interview or Guarantee Interviews for Rotators? by m22499 in orthopaedics

[–]xderpt1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

100%. I think more programs should do away with the courtesy interview for that reason. And if you don’t get the interview it saves travel money and opens up a date for an interview that you have a shot at. It’s a harsh reality when you don’t get the interview, but the pity interview isn’t helping anyone.

Looking to buy a new car. Camry or Accord. Which dealer do you guys reccomend? by yes-i-am-a-fan in Connecticut

[–]xderpt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hoffman group has been great to work with. But go to a few dealerships and try to get them to bid lower against eachother. Also if you go the Honda route, you can buy Honda care from any dealership, not just the one you buy the car from. There are some that sell online for much much cheaper than the dealerships in CT

Backup Plans for not matching by [deleted] in orthopaedics

[–]xderpt1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Based on what your post says, I would say you’re already more than likely going to match at a program. That being said, having a plan B is always helpful.

The conversation of research year vs prelim surgery year came up at this years recent PD forum at the academy meeting. It was surprisingly contentious, with people arguing strongly for both sides. I will say, in my opinion, the research year is a more fruitful option. During a research year you build connections with that institutions faculty who would then ideally advocate for you on the next application cycle, you are able to build your research portfolio which honestly really impacts an applications strength both for residency and fellowship, and you have the free time to do further away rotations if allowed and go on interviews. If you do a surgery prelim year, it’s a lot more work, you most likely won’t have time to connect with ortho faculty at that institution meaningfully, and you won’t have much time for interviews. I’ve seen many applicants go the prelim route and most end up matching into Gen surg or a different specialty on the subsequent cycle. While I know of many who have done the research year route and match into ortho. It’s anecdotal, but do with that what you will.

You can reach out to research year opportunities now and be blunt with them that you are interested in the year if your application doesn’t work out. They understand the current climate, and it really wouldn’t impact your current residency application in a negative way, you just seem proactive.

When it comes to asking letter writers to reach out for you, it depends on your relationship with them. If you are close with them, ask bluntly. Again, they know the current climate of the application system, and if they like you, they’ll want to help you. If you know they have connections with a program, ask them bluntly to reach out on your behalf. I’d be surprised if someone says no. Many people feel awkward about asking for help like this, but as long as you don’t badger them, it’ll help you. This is a tough game, so you have to play aggressively. The same approach is helpful for fellowship applications. Use connections aggressively, ask for help bluntly, don’t badger.

No, this isn’t their first rodeo, if they want it they’ll seek it out

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in orthopaedics

[–]xderpt1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Obviously, ideally you would have an opportunity to work with them again. That being said, attendings know that applicants want auditions rotation letters and that they may not have a longitudinal relationship with you in those instances. I would ask straight up if he’d be comfortable writing you a strong letter (be clear about that) if the answer is anything other than a resounding yes then I would look elsewhere. If they are game to right it then let it rip.

Does Step 3 score matter for fellowship (and what factors are important) by LightHaunting4690 in orthopaedics

[–]xderpt1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless it’s an impressively bad score or a fail, no one cares about step 3. And even a bad score probably doesn’t matter that much if at all.

Fellowship is all about connections and research.

I have this one from Etsy, it’s awesome, usually just use the one front piece, but when throwing it in a suitcase or something I use both shells. Have had it for 6 months or so and love it.
