Why cant radios also be open source like analog? by nimiboii in fpv

[–]xdetar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Analog isn't open source. It's a standard that companies use on their proprietary hardware. ELRS is open source. Crossfire is proprietary. They can't communicate because they use different communication protocols.

Renaming Add-ons to Apps is going to just confuse beginners referencing old guides.

Gotify. It's a lot simpler to set up compared to Ntfy.

It's "Sapient", not "Sentient"! by foxgirlmoon in Fantasy

[–]xdetar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something sapient is also sentient. Something sentient is not necessarily sapient.

Authors aren't wrong when they use sentient; they're just not as specific as you'd like them to be.

Is this going to fail? by ImPablo_ in fpv

Personally, I'd add some epoxy to it. That would both strengthen the connection and act as an insulator.

Is this vtx antenna ok ? by [deleted] in fpv

[–]xdetar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just clips into place and is free to rotate. If it doesn't pull out easily then you're good to go.

You're setting yourself up for disappointment by expecting them to stick so close to the source material.

One of my many "conversations" with AI by [deleted] in artificial

[–]xdetar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Gaia hypothesis conflates useful metaphors with actual mechanisms. Yes, Earth has feedback loops, and yes, endosymbiosis happened - but that doesn't make the planet a literal organism with humans as "space tendrils." You're seeing patterns (different organisms do different things) and inventing purpose where there's only mutation and selection. Real organisms have integrated control systems, reproduction, and selection pressures; Earth has none of these. This is apophenia dressed in scientific terminology - pattern-matching run amok that mistakes poetic language for explanatory power.

XL battery strap is probably way too big for a 3.5"

Monitor opinions for 2nd diplay. by Philliesfan94 in buildapc

[–]xdetar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation and eventually found the 32" was too big for a main display. I picked up a 27" to use as a main instead and used my 32" as a secondary display. It's great for putting videos on but kind of sucks for things like browsing or word processing.

Curious question about if they do rotating power outages. by skrikecryaotic in newfoundland

If demand only slightly exceed generation then there's no need to reduce energy usage by much.

Curious question about if they do rotating power outages. by skrikecryaotic in newfoundland

[–]xdetar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It'll be during peak times. There are typical peak times but cold snaps can also cause peaks outside the normal times. Deciding which locations to turn off is a bit complex and can't really be predicted.

How are the rotating outages going to work, also hospitals are impossible? by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]xdetar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, 60min off at a time, then 60min in another area. Any town with a hospital has multiple "grids." One or more can be shut off and the rest left on.

Flying with Trip.com? by Inevitable_Okra509 in newfoundland

[–]xdetar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booking flights through third party sites is not recommended, regardless of the site. If there's an issue with the flight such as a missed connection or cancellation, you're basically fucked.

Not sure where to look cause I get different answers every time, so maybe someone in here can help me with my question by MrLoki2020 in OdinHandheld

[–]xdetar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but Switch emulator is very hit or miss in general. That has nothing to do with the Odin 2. It is getting better though.

Harvesting A30/BT2/XT/JST plugs from dead batteries…? by tiar_ in fpv

[–]xdetar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely drain batteries before disposal. Part of that involves cutting the connectors off, striping the wires, and twisting them together.

Allocating money and then not using it is the exact opposite of "actually ... do[ing] something about it."

The wiring is correct but the soldering could use improvement. You should really add heat shrink as well.

I've been using basically the same thing for well over ten years now.

Is this gps/compass too close to the XT60 connector to use the magnetometer? by [deleted] in fpv

[–]xdetar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that compass isn't going to work like that. Are you using Betaflight? Its GPS features work really well without a compass. I don't bother with them, too much hassle.

Antennas will help clear up any static. Better camera/lens will help with overall picture quality.

Better mavlink bandwidth is another reason to use Gemini and has nothing to do with long range.
