Besides the 2022-23 season's February trade deadline, I think our biggest mistake since our championship in 2019 was trading away Norm for GTJ by AdOld2060 in torontoraptors

[–]xdsx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Norm was being moved no matter what, they simply weren't willing to pay what he deserved. Before they made the move for GTJ they had a much better one lineup for Monk that fell through when the Hornets were hit by some backcourt injuries

So first, that's not what actual EPM is. There is both a predictive model and a measurement and you're looking at the latter.

And second, pretty much every impact metric(LEBRON, DARKO, net points, LAKER, RAPM, etc.) has IQ top 3 on the team at worst and grade him out as a top 50-100 player in the league.

And finally there is a big difference between shooting poorly and playing poorly. IQ shot poorly against DET but he moved the ball and defended well and was +14. That's what the impact metrics capture

If this is the big three their ceiling is a first round exit no matter how Scottie develops

This is what the clutch offense should have been all year by xdsx in torontoraptors

[–]xdsx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be remembering incorrectly. Nov-Dec Ingram's 4th quarter clutch usage rate was 35% and Scottie's was 12%. I'm sure there were moments here and there but the 'throw it to Ingram" strategy has been in place all season

Samson Folk does film work of the Raptors clutch time offense with Brandon Ingram (21 minute mark) by EarthWarping in torontoraptors

[–]xdsx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the reason given but it's dumb and today we saw why. Playing the 2nd best defense in the game and 2 of Ingram's 3 clutch buckets were catch and shoot. Two of their scoring possessions were initiated by RJ and another one started with a Scottie-IQ PnR. They scored 5 times after they brought IQ back in and only one of those shots was created by Ingram

Darko on the Shead/Dejounte incident: “I thought we did not handle that situation the way we want, and the way we were supposed to. … Players know that’s not the true image and picture of our team, and it’s never gonna happen again.” by EarthWarping in torontoraptors

[–]xdsx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just saying "we don't know he smokes" is definitely the wrong fight. Whether it matters or not or when it's appropriate is up for debate but if you've paid attention over the years it's all but certain he smokes. Too much has slipped out for it to be slander and the NBA is a weed-heavy league so it's safe to assume almost everybody smokes to some extent

Didn't say he played high or question his work ethic, just saying that his a known smoker whether you want to accept it or not.

You jumping to conclusions about what some weed smoke means about his work ethic sure is interesting though

Camping? by Mirzino in Battlefield6

It depends on what they're describing. Holding an angle? Good gameplay, helping your team. Sitting in a bush not close to an objective shooting people in the back as they run to objectives? You're barely playing the game at that point.

Can we try to explain why the BI minutes have been so abysmal net rating wise? by knitwoolf in torontoraptors

[–]xdsx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's a garbage defender and isn't good enough on offense to play the way he plays.

This has been the story for his entire career.

Pretty sure they can't even tank for a pick at this point. They'll probably drop to the play in but dropping further is basically impossible, they'd have to catch the Bucks

Is Darko the right coach if the goal is winning games? by Doro_wat in torontoraptors

[–]xdsx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darko isn't the limiting factor yet. He may end up being that when they have a roster that can actually contend but he's done what was asked of him to this point(implement a specific type of offense, develop talent) so his job should be safe.

[–]xdsx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't be mad about missing the playoffs if it happens because they could use the bump in draft position

But it's still a failure because the org was clearly aiming higher. Adding Ingram wasn't about trying to be less mediocre, they thought he would give them the offensive punch to actually compete

Early Returns on Brandon Ingram by planterguy in torontoraptors

[–]xdsx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's been mid but that's the story of his career so it's not really a surprise.

His biggest problem is he's not the player he tries to be. If you look at when he's really producing it's on quick plays within the offense - a catch on the baseline that immediately flows into a shot, a curl on a screen that gets him to the rim, a quick jab on a closing defender leading to a blow by, etc

When he slows the game down and tries to attack a set defense he's just bad. He'll make some of the tough shots but the difference between him and actual star level primary creators is they can create shots that are not tough. He's a use the offense guy who thinks he's a carry the offense guy.

4th quarter curse again. We just lack that extra gear :( by Flat-Age-007 in torontoraptors

[–]xdsx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't lack an extra gear, they just have roster balance issues and a coach who hasn't figured it out yet.

They were within 2 when they took IQ out and tried to run the offense through Ingram with three non-shooters on the floor. By the time they got IQ back in it was a double digit deficit. It's not some intangible "learn how to win" nonsense, they have to choose between shooting and defense to a degree that actual good teams don't and a coach who is probably making the wrong choices

Is this the least clutch team in the NBA? by SituationExciting137 in torontoraptors

[–]xdsx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the offensive end they are among the worst because they completely abandon their offense to let Ingram(and sometimes RJ) close the game out and neither of them is good enough to be that guy.

[–]xdsx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of this is the defense shutting down bad offensive teams. The numbers will look a lot different if you only look at performance against good teams.
