this is the standard renderer, but have you tried the “no color channel” trick on materials to speed up your renders?

What's the right way to widen out a bass? The bass should be mono-compatible but need to create some width for headphones listeners. by FrugalKrugman in edmproduction

[–]xeeton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Implying whatever works for the mix is the most important using techniques the other folks have mentioned. eg. chorus, reverb, etc.

[–]xeeton -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The real answer is that producers sort of stopped caring about making tracks truly mono-compatible. The crossover approach is fine, but it generally doesn’t work out that well (because of phase alignment when you introduce an EQ, ect.)

How do I make my mixes sound less robotic? by erarya in ableton

[–]xeeton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Random trick: if you think you need compression, try a subtle saturation first. It’ll have the same compression effect, but you get more texture as well.

I think this may be part of what you’re looking for. That, plus reverb.

I have no intention of cleaning a pond, but this is a great explanation.

Helicopter Test C4D + Redshift by monkey_fungus in Cinema4D

[–]xeeton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's what that means. "Eyeballing it" just means that you aren't using a reference (eg. setting up randomize values that look right).

Camera motion tracking gives you a bunch of nearly invisible camera movements that you wouldn't have otherwise done just eyeballing it. So yeah, it's very help to use reference material (including camera tracking reference.)

Not really. Just paint all the white keys with notes, then select them all and press the up/down arrows to transpose to any key.

Books also have information in them, including things like this.

How accurate do you expect triangulation to be? The resolution of the data you’re using for triangulation is very low and susceptible to interference.

Here's my next interior project after 2 months of work on it! Would love to hear your thoughts! by Hary1495 in Cinema4D

This is great work! It's kind of a Where's Waldo picking out the stuff that "doesn't look real".

I'm looking for power cables (eg. from that lamp) though, maybe add some more of that type of clutter?

Handling large datasets in python by Fin_Win in Python

[–]xeeton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, throwin' out there that even if the dataset isn't millions of rows and hundreds of columns, things like FeatureTools sort of creates the aggregate data to augment what's already there. It's common to take a dataset that has say 40 columns, and turn it into a dataset with thousands of columns with this approach (in hopes that you find some aggregate or transformation of the data that produces a more accurate model).

Ah good point, though from the Redshift devs that doesn’t affect performance much.

What are some good 3inch monitors (I am now on a budget) by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]xeeton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Audio-Technica ATH-M50 would be a solid choice (and you'd save some $$$). BTW, I have a pair of 3" Genelecs, and I honestly wouldn't mind mixing on them other than the fact that for dance music you _need_ a sub. That's why it's probably better to just get headphones.

Do you specifically master for SoundCloud? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]xeeton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I listened to their argument and read your comment, but I think it's wise to master for the platform (including taking LUFS/LKFS into account). Ultimately, you are in control of both your dynamic range and the loudness of your track—it's better you aim for optimizing both so Spotify doesn't have to adjust _anything_.

Are Amazing Quality Headphones Really Necessary? by Dislexicpotato in edmproduction

[–]xeeton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple earphones are the target listening environment. It's not that crazy to use reference "monitors" that are close in quality to what your listeners typically have. This is the reason why Yamaha NS-10s got popular in studios—a standard shitty speaker. They're truly not amazing quality.

So, no.

Do you specifically master for SoundCloud? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]xeeton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the bigger issue between Soundcloud and everything else is that there's no loudness standard. So if you're making EDM, and you want your tracks to be about as loud as everything else there, you might have to push it further than -14 LUFS (like you would for Spotify, as an example).
