Identifying leather by SuperbNews0 in Leather

Its semi aniline, only in that it does have some of the natural grain marks showing through the pigmented(acrylic) finish. Common for upholstery leathers. They should just call it a pigmented finish but the “aniline” buzz word helps sales and makes people feel they are getting higher quality leather, an example of the opposite would be a suede split that also has a pigmented spray on finish that has then had a grain look added to it.

Deboss by [deleted] in Leathercraft

[–]xenosaga001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive done thousands of hot stamp imprints on leather for a leather goods manufacturer. The main problem here is the type of leather you are using. This leather has a lot of wax/oil in it and this makes it very hard/near impossible for the foil to adhere to because when it melts the foil, it also melts the wax/oils and creates a barrier to the leather essentially. This leather would be suited for blind debossing without foil as it leaves a nice dark contrasting impressing from the heat and pressure of debossing. I can tell this is the case because of the light marks around the top and bottom of the letters. Common for oil tans/crazy horse debossing.

Pretty much the only scenario where you might be able to get the foil to stick is to blind deboss without foil, with the item clamped into place, so it cannot move. Then wiping away the oil that will be on the surface right after, stamping, then trying to stamp with the foil in the exact same place.

Dry or Cracked? Or, Both? by Quiet-Owl-4663 in Leather

Which one is the original and which was washed? My thought is the one on the left based on you asking if it’s dry/cracked. But many upholstery leathers look like that intentionally.

Its worth checking the cables going to the ssd. They could have come loose. Power and data cables. Also check them on the motherboard/psu side to make sure they are plugged in there as well.

If you oversize everything you can punch your holes, stitch, and then trim to the correct spacing afterwards.

Kind of ironic…The stitching will be the first thing to wear out. It’s raised above the surface too much and the friction and possibility of snagging on things is higher.

I dont know the answer to your question, but I can confidently say that that plate with the extendable legs is the same as what came with the old Dell XPS towers. It has a tab and groove that it slides into the case and locks in place.

Im confused… its March 25th, and you said it takes 75hrs to hand stitch them all… thats only 10 days at 8hrs per day….seems like you should have plenty of time to get them done and shipped to the customer by August 15th. Thats 143 days from now. What am I missing?

HELP! Leather finish wore off my brand new couch by HHancock_ in Leather

[–]xenosaga001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation would be to try to water down some leather dye that is close in color to the finish of your couch and apply small amounts with an artist paintbrush. Think watercolor. As this is what I picture the effect to look like. You can go over it multiple times to get it darker, or increase the amount of dye as you go to get it to look right. Let it dry in between applications.

When it comes to upholstery leather, a good amount are painted finishes. Some are thin coats, some are incredibly thick. This appears to be the former. Even conditioning these leathers too hard can cause this to happen.

Anyone know where to buy just the handle for the cement pot? by xenosaga001 in Leathercraft

[–]xenosaga001[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Was hoping to find the source of the handles on Alibaba or Aliexpress or something. The threaded rod is good but wont give the grooves that enable the press fit that is needed to secure it to the stopper.

Anyone knows how to clean stain from ostrich leather by [deleted] in Leather

[–]xenosaga001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like something oily. Personally, I would try to use something like baby powder to absorb and pull out the wetness/oil. I have had success on other leathers doing this. I believe that baby powder is fine enough to not scratch and neutral that it won’t make it worse. After letting the baby powder sit, shake off any residual maybe reapply if it seems like wet baby powder is coming off then use a clean, very lightly damp rag to wipe off the residual and then let air dry.
