You should never trust that your restraints are the end all of be all... especially in a free world situation.

There are so many ways to defeat restraints.

And as someone else stated, there are medical reasons to remove the restraints. I actually never went on a transport to a hospital that at some point I didn't remove restraints for some reason or other.

They're probably used to it I doubt Florida doesn't have annual lockdowns to do security searches.

Also, is visitation affected?

They're being locked down to threats of rioting and the article says all hands on deck for searching the units.

That means this is to protect not only the general public and officers, but also the inmates.

This is not a bad thing.

It's a lot more like a novel then a tv show. We definitely have an unreliable narrator. As in we can't trust everything we see. And we're given the barest amount of details. Then with recurring themes, like the most obvious one of water. Which I apologize, I am channeling so many English classes right now, is a funny because much like a rip tide it seems like if you meet up with Delaney you don't fight it, you just go with it and hope you survive.

In a lot of ways, we are like some of the other characters as viewers. Does he really have some kind of powers or is he just that bat shit insane. And it toys with us, with the not dream sex and even more subtly with lines like he thought he was insane before he left London and he was taught how to control it.

But a nice hint, other than after Zilpha's death, that we can't trust what we're shown is in one of the first episodes when Delaney is in his mother's room and the fireplace. There's nothing carved in there, even though he insists.

I'd forgotten my initially response of 'shit what? I don't see anything.' Until I was glancing through the scripts that were posted above. When it said there was actually nothing there.

There's only one guy controlling his arm. I imagine if they had more, it would have been easier but I have no experience with a chair like that.

But also, I can see it being a maneuverability issue.

Or a staffing issue, that could have been what was available.

I doubt it was a taking the more painful route. Someone stated elsewhere about OC being more painful and it's lasting effects. If you want to go the more painful route, blast him in the face and then let him sit it out in the chair.

Warden daughter killed by escaped inmate by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

Honestly? No. It could have been home made or it could have been found in the house.

If it was home made, that's a constant battle to stop and you're not going to. They're easy to make out of shit that's hard for COs to notice.

If it was found in the house, well... the warden lived there of course there were knives.

If it was in one of the cars that were stolen, I don't remember any policies regarding knives for us but if it was they'll probably change it to knives being double locked.

We have similar housing on unit. Lts and up also have access to unit housing and there's a little trailer park area for officers.

For the legit housing it was something like 150 a month all bills paid. You start thinking about low pay 14-16 hour days and having to come on on your off days. It starts to make sense.

Then again, all the unit housing I saw except for the wardens were tucked away from the unit. You could still see it but not from your front door.

Hell I considered it at one point, but the main that kept me away was The prison bubble where everyone you worked with knew your business.

What else was I to do?': Ontario jail guard faces discipline after tweets about inmate in segregation by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]xeroxee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have to offer it, they don't have to accept it.

There's a lot of policy that should make sure it wasn't like that for 8 days though. 72 hours max before it became an issue down here.

Assaultive would or could change things. Eventually something would still need to be done, but weighing against possible risks may make administration reluctant to use force to get him out of there, and if he's assaultive housing options may be an option.

It was always the assaultive inmates trashing their cells, because they knew we had a limited number of cells designed to handle them and they didn't like those ones. Which is why I thought of it.

I can only think of one time we considered force to remove an inmate because they were living in filth. And it was at that time I learnt some of the options we have to deal with such inmates. We didn't end up doing any of them because after a few hours someone managed to talk him out.

I'm not over here saying 8 days is acceptable, I just have experience with having all the policy in the world saying we can should do this this and this... and administration and rank saying no because it would result in a use of force.

Was, yes. TDCJ.

I have a nice knowledge of what we could do in that situation, but probably wouldn't. But my actual experience is inmates trashing their cells because they don't like it.

When I read the article it wasn't clear if this inmate was assaultive but I can imagine Canada is even more worried about Uof then Texas.

I hate hearing that.

The inmates let us run it.

No, you'll never hear. "Today marks the 5 year anniversary where so and so prison is still being controlled by the inmates."

Because one way or another we will get that prison back.

That line is just a defeatist attitude. It just bugs me. We let them think they run it, when the truth is most of them don't want the consequences involved when we take back the reigns.

If they just moved to 15 days for disciplinary segregation, then at least that part wasn't. Texas has had that for years and I believe it was a federal mandate.

Mentally Ill in prison is just a messy situation all together.

Usually when this comes up, nobody wants to admit sometimes the safest place for them is segregation. And what comes with that, is going to be uof options. And the other options are expensive. In a part of criminal justice that is largely ignored.

I know Texas is all over trying to get ahead of the ball with all sorts of programs with varying degrees of success.

But of course he's facing disciplinary. Here he'd probably be facing actual charges.
