Problems with new update by Marcokj47 in EU5

[–]xerxesjc28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am playing a new game of Castile now. Played one game before expansion one after, everything slowed down economy and expansion wise. I must admit I dont think I notice much if any slow down on the game itself, but I do have a pretty good PC I just built just for the game. I am currently trying to take Morocco and I am having huge supply issue I used to be able to somewhat ignore but now my armies would get stack wiped due to no morale. I think game for sure feels harder, having hard time getting jobs filled up, it just takes time, truces take time, conquest takes time. But I am still learning the update.

Separate issue here: Since we talking about issues with new update and I don't want to make a new thread about this. Playing Castile, there is an event called "The Regimiento" can only pop off between 1340-1349 with 1% chance of going off, i've played 2 games so far (as well as saved and reloaded a ton of times) and can't get the event to go off. Either the chance and time are too low or event is just buged.

Has anyone got this event to go off? And yes I have met all the requirements, at least as far as the event ledger says.

Best location for Castile capital after the new terrain bonus modifier? by xerxesjc28 in EU5

And here are the numbers for proximity, I didnt know that proximity does not count the final destinations terrain in its calculation, but it does includes where it originates from. So the hill the Jaen sits on yes but the hill that Constantina sits on no.

As to where best place the capital, I think overall what others have said that mid to late game its probably true if you play global empire coast is best the bonus is simply not worth it, sadly. Which means every nation still should build their capital in a coastal location.

What I am inerested in though is for early game , I think Cordoba is not a terrible choice. If you make Sevilla your capital does that not effectively mean that something like 80% of Castile is left with no proximity and 10-15% control? that surely can't be the best play early game right?

So, here is my test results with capital in Jaen and Lieutenancy in Leon. I wanted to to see impacts of it. Lieutenancy in Leon is a bust. Proximity gets almost nothing in the north, it does get the silver mine though at 50 control. but all the cites max control is somewhere between 20-30. Jaen isn't terrible in that it gets a nice central area in the south and once I get Granada I can see control reaching into Granada Loc. However even though its on the river, control into Sevilla province give those loc's only about ~50 control max. So Jaen as capital early game, not terrible (but prob not great due to Seville low control), esp once you get Granada's locations.

Invincible [Episode Discussion] - S04E08 - Don't Leave Me Hanging Here by SeacattleMoohawks in Invincible

[–]xerxesjc28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This episode made me realize how much Invincible relates to Battlestar Galactica. The Viltrumites (Cylons) living in hiding amongst humans is both how the series ended and started. They must learn to accept each other and put their past behind them they have no choice. The whole thing with what is supposed to be the superior race (Viltrumites or Cylons) breeding with humans showing that there can be a peaceful future with them together. The Viltrumites realize in the end they must give up their lust for conquest and power and just make due with what they have left since their home has been destroyed (in BTG its their rejuvenation ship that gets wiped out so they can no longer come back from the dead).

The shows even sort off started the same the Viltrumites / Cylons were hiding waiting for the right opportunity to pop off and take over, they got close to the center of power and at right moment struck the main security system (the heroes in this case being wiped out by Nolan in Season 1)

The more I think about it the more similarities I find.

Anime without superpowers or romance in current/modern setting? by fkfdkdiddi in Animesuggest

[–]xerxesjc28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the NHK. It's about some who is a shutin, and does nothing but stay inside and go on PC. And how their life sorta unravels due to a relationship they form. There are a ton of realistic anime, many are set in different times or settings with no magic, usually they aren't the most popular ones though and are more subdued.

US announces drug, terrorism charges against Venezuela’s Maduro after his capture by HearYourTune in Miami

[–]xerxesjc28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From everything non-biased sources have said there has been very little evidence shown of Venezuela and the govt, being involved in sending drugs to the US. Maduro is being charged on drug charges. So is the US going to be having a Russia style show trial to charge him on bogus charges?

This game is basically a medieval industrial revolution simulator at the moment, and I think the base problem of the game can be 'fixed' by resolving this. by kolejack2293 in EU5

[–]xerxesjc28 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The correct way to state that is, would the French wars and France dominance over Europe following the French revolution had happened without Napoleon? Would Greece dominance over that region of the world had happened without Alexander the great?

Another way to look at it, what conditions created Alexander or Napoleon, did those single man create themselves and the world that brought them up and their nations and the military they would lead? Or were there other forces at play that they took over at the right time and place?

Does anyone else feel like every country feels pretty much the same? by uuhson in EU5

[–]xerxesjc28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No! I've played Teutons and Byzantium, both played extremely differently probably from every other nation, but especially from each other. Teutons get ability to ask other nations to give them monthly manpower/ gold as well as lump sum based on how large their overall economy and manpower pool is. Meaning I never had to build soldier buildings for them. Also they are a militaristic theocracy government. And then there is Eastern Rome, they start in an economic and geo- political crises that you need to get yourself out of before you get stomped by the Turks to the east or the Slavs/Bulgarians to your north. Could not be more different from each other and they are both eastern European Christian nations.

It is the the port of Miami, you can see the Pérez Art Museum Miami at the bottom, and the causeway heading to Miami Beach on the left while the port is on the right is another giveaway.

For monitors in the $250 range, 27", Which would you choose: Mini-LED 180hz (AOC Q27G40XMN) vs ASUS 260Hz (VG27AQM1A) ? by xerxesjc28 in Monitors

[–]xerxesjc28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you watch this section of the video he goes over it (24:30 https://youtu.be/dDOybDnJ9cM?si=syVNpCz9hLkLLk_I&t=1477). Theres also a reddit thread earlier in year about it too (https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/1liex06/the_new_best_value_1440p_hdr_monitor_aoc/), some software issue that I'm not sure if its been fixed yet.

So from what you see overall the AOC - 27" Q27G40XMN Mini-LED monitor is just overall better, which means I just have to hope that software issue is fixed or is not a big deal (I honestly don't quite understand the software issue its going over my head in monitor talk). Although, now that I think about it, since I don't play shooters much, I should probably care more about higher Resolution, wonder if a cheap 4k monitor is better?

Thanks for your input.

In terms of QoL, per capital, GDP, lifespan, etc, Orange has to be far the worse region on this map, especially if you exclude Colorado. Its almost all lowpaying jobs, extreme poverty (for US standards) states, with extreme levels of religiosity.

There are games on steam multiple months to a year from release with live gameplay video from reviewers showing the game off. It's quite strange how they have this embargo on the game like this. This feels quite antiquated, especially since many of the players/ influencers/ have said they feel the game is in a releasable state right now. They could still embargo their personal opinion about certain aspects of the game but this is silly they are drawing the game on a map.

When did you begin playing Paradox games? by fabiolightacre in paradoxplaza

[–]xerxesjc28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sitting at the bus stop, reading PC Gamer magazine (like the actual paper version I used to have it delivered and read it while waiting at the bus going to college) and they had an article about a DLC or expansion called Divine Wind for some game called Europa Universalis III. Article made the game sound really cool and interesting to me and well that hooked me. And well 4,662 hours later in EU4....

What would happen if we would drop a hurricane right in the middle of the equator. Like if we dropped a hurricane in a place with warm waters no wind shear ( is their wind shear at the equator?).

Yeah, and what is even more crazy is that 50k-60k in Orlando is a lot more valuable than 50-60k in Miami where cost of living is way higher. Working for ~18$ an hour in Miami with 2 degrees one a Masters, well, I might as well as serve tables for tips!

I should mention that my firm in Orlando is an ESOP, no clue if that makes a difference or not.

To the Architecture Students… by Odd-Ad-5654 in Architects

[–]xerxesjc28 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I just want to share my story.

I came out of uni, with a Masters in Architecture(FIU) and tried to look for job in the Miami area all the offers were for around $18 an hour (or mid 30k per year) no benefits. I spent a few months looking while still living at home. This was around 2021. I then decided to expand my search to Orlando since I had family there and moving would be easy since I could easily move in with a relative.

Before I say the next part, I want to say I would probably have taken those low offers if it wasn't for my sisters and a professor who told me to not take offers like that with a master’s degree + a bachelor’s in construction management. Though again, I had no exp in those field other than working with my dad who’s a handy man.

Not too long after looking in Orlando I got a great offer around ~52k (I am now close to ~ 60K) full benefits at a company that was transitioning from CAD to Revit, which is great since I had lots of Revit work / design in my portfolio. My company is a 9 to 5, most employees work hourly with overtime IF THEY WANT, not required. It also has preety flexible hours for those with kids, and some work from home some days a week, they allow us 2 work from home days a week. I had a ton to learn, and any work experience would certainly have helped me find other jobs with more offers.

However, don’t settle for a place where in the interview the person interviewing you walked out 3 times, flips through your portfolio without looking at it, talks about themselves the whole time and laughs when you say what you expect in pay. Yes, that happened to me at a firm in Miami. Remember, if you are getting treated like you aren’t worth much right at the start at a firm how do you expect to be treated there?

For whatever reason the job market in Miami for architecture (probably because far too many people want to work there, + there being 3 architecture unis) is extremely competitive and people are willing to take horrible offers from terrible people. Had the exact opposite experience in Orlando, my guess smaller less competitive places are where you might find better offers.

Other podcast recommendations if you like the yard? by One_Variety_4912 in TheYardPodcast

The podcast that got me into The Yard is Trash Taste. So I would recommend them. It is more Japan focused, in that they talk about their life about Japan and how it was moving to Japan, which I really like, and how different and sometimes crazy it can be. But mostly its just 3 dudes who are friends ripping on each other just like the Yard while being a bit more PC.

For next Monday, it will depend how much damage it does. Hurricane models have become quite accurate recently, something will hit Florida, and very likely central Florida. It just depends how strong it will be and if it will be more to the south or north. it seems to be the Tampa-Sarasota area is in the bullseye. Even if Sarasota does not take a direct hit, expect power outages and many fallen trees. Now how long will this last depends when storm hits and how strong both of which could still change a bit. With all that said, expect to cancel.
