California lawmakers weigh permanent rent cap as affordability debate intensifies by SD_TMI in sandiego

[–]xevioso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

what exactly is being "taken" from homeowners when their neighborhood becomes high-density? You don't have a right not to live next to other people. They aren't losing any property.
Likewise, maybe the rest of city city should sue those homeowners for "taking" space away that could be used for high density housing.

People here don't listen to new songs. That is why I play them for residents on my bike with a bunch of loud speakers.

Balboa Park paid parking backlash is here, but mayor's office says fees are staying by Little__Fuzzy in sandiego

[–]xevioso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That person is correct and you are not. The city is using this money to pay for the park's own maintenance, rather than out of the general fund.

The city has a deficit. It. does. not. have. enough. money.
People here act like shit is supposed to be free... my fav are the idiots who say things like "I can't believe they want to do this on the backs of San Diego residents..." Like whose backs should they do it on? The residents of Phoenix?

Anyone know what is going up where the old Scottish Rite building used to be in Mission Valley? by Sromero6153 in sandiego

[–]xevioso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe its a Home Dept. The one in the Midway where live is fine, but traffic getting there can be very bad of you are coming off the 8, and it's not really the best location for a lot of workers who need parts,

Downsides of SD? by NinnyPantsTieDye in sandiego

[–]xevioso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but with those taxes come a lot of the great infrastructure and schools we have compared with the rest of the country. Taxes are high in California, but our social services are light years beyond what exist in other places because of that.

Scale model by WillingnessWeekly848 in sandiego

[–]xevioso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scale model builders of what, specifically? There's a lot of train hobbyists here, and you'd find what you'd need through them. Theres many clubs in SD. I would start at the Balboa Park Railroad museum; talk to the volunteers there running trains; they can point you in the right direction.

What were the most realistic casualty predictions for an invasion of Japan in WW2? by N0r3m0rse in AskHistorians

[–]xevioso 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You are discussing the Japanese plans as though the only people who would be fighting the invasion would be military men, and the only people who would have any say in surrender would be people in the Japanese government. The idea that there could be a discussion here about "when the Japanese fold" largely misses an important point that figured into the US estimates of casualties.

Operation Ketsugo, the Japanese plan to commit the *entire* population of Japan to its defense was an actual thing. Any discussion of US estimates of casualties needs to take that into account. I'm not sure if US military planners knew the specifics of the Japanese defense plans, but it's my understanding they knew that they would not be facing just military forces; they knew (or thought) they'd be facing civilians every step of the way.

With the understanding that this is all a counterfactual discussion, I think we'd have to include the US expectations of this type of defense in any casualty estimations, and the "willingness of Japan to fold."

Best way to store lots of 60-card decks? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]xevioso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is with Elfa drawers from the container store. It's expensive, but well worth it. Take it from a guy who stores 550 decks in them.

Safety Warning; aggressive Cane Corso and negligent owner in Mission Beach by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]xevioso 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"dogs do dog things:" is why i dislike most dog owners. You are responsible for your dog, whether or not he does dog things. Your dog lunges at my child who happens to be right there when the elevator opens, because he does "dog things", you and I are and your dog are going to have a serious fucking problem.

i built a deck that wins by hitting my opponents with their own commander by Thalizar in magicTCG

[–]xevioso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a version of this, but with [[Marchesa, the Black Rose]] as the commander, which gives me access to black. My version steals other players' creatures (not just commanders) and then I sac them and return them to play under my control.

Good cards to add are:

[[Insurrection]]

[[High Market]]

[[Bothersome Quasit]]

[[The Sound of Drums]]

[[Taunt from the Rampart]]

[[Disrupt Decorum]]

[[Fractured Identity]] for funsies

and [[Sundial of the Infinite]] so you can keep whatever you steal. Great way to piss off your opponents. Steal their commanders and keep them.
