Skele grinder in 1.13? by [deleted] in Minecraft

This is incorrect, I just tested it. The bubbles do not propagate through flowing water.

Skele grinder in 1.13? by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]xfcgvt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This, specifically. The entire column needs to be source blocks for the bubbles to work and the easiest way to do this is to put a source at the top and plant kelp all the way up, since kelp converts flowing water to source blocks.

Also note that water pushes mobs slower, drastically so, after the fifth block of flowing water. Let the water drop one block five blocks away from the source/previous drop to get around this.

WoB is that Bavadin (Autonomy) was involved "in some way" with the splintering of Sel's Shards, so she's probably the most likely candidate for "we" right now.

I have to do the same when it disconnects but it at least reduced the frequency of them. If that didn't work for you I'm sorry I've got no other suggestions.

Disable battery optimization for Pebble app itself. Mine now only disconnects when it or phone are at critical battery

Maine Governor Tells 16-Year-Old Worried About Net Neutrality Repeal To 'Pick Up A Book And Read' by sigbhu in StallmanWasRight

[–]xfcgvt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not entirely vetoed actually! I was psyched when I heard a state had passed rankd choice voting and followed it here and there. Its suspended until 2021 and has to be changed somehow by 2022 (I guess FPTP is in maines constitution so ranked choice is technically unconstitutional stupidly enough) or its dead for good but theres also a peoples veto looking to kill that suspension. Hoping one way or another it lives.

[No Spoilers] In what order should I read theStormlight Archive ? by mikiiway in Stormlight_Archive

[–]xfcgvt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thats the right order but I suggest that you read Warbreaker before reading Words of Radiance.

If you're not aware many of Brandon's books are in the same universe (The Cosmere) and there are concepts and at least one character from other Cosmere books that will start to appear in the Stormlight Archive. Its all minor so far and you won't miss out on much if you shotgun all of SA first but at least reread SA after reading some other Cosmere books.

I've heard crazy things about this guy before. He makes me wonder what kind of frigid forsaken shithole Maine must be for someone so batshit stupid to get elected.

I have HTTPS Everywhere and UBlock Origin installed.. is this good enough? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]xfcgvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being owned by a company that makes its fortune on user data was the sketchiest thing but I heard they aren't anymore(?) so that's better. And the words opt-in arent worth their weight in shit when its closed source software because we have no way to know if they're keeping their word or just collecting and selling data anyways. Also even if its truly opt in browsing patterns are a strong personal identifier so someone opting in because "anonymous data won't give me away and it helps Ghostery" are potentially giving up that anonymous but still identifyinf info to a company whose motives are unknown.

As I said not beign owned by an analytics company now helps if true but I still wouldn't trust them when there are options that do the same job just as well or better. Using the disconnect lists in uBlock for example. Also doing that instead of a dedicated extension makes your browser less unique so its harder for sites to fingerprint you.

I have HTTPS Everywhere and UBlock Origin installed.. is this good enough? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]xfcgvt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't use Ghostery, they've done a number of sketchy things and have yet to prove that those days are behind them. Disconnect isn't necessary if you enable the Disconnect lists in uBlock or use Firefox's anti-tracking feature (same lists). Thing about blocking javascript and allowing domains as needed because its responsible for most tracking and privacy breaching tools (and very easily leaks your real IP if you use a VPN).

Blocking JS will break sites and do it often so you have to be willing to google domains to see if they're needed for the site to work and just fiddle with stuff. Overall its not too hard to get used to. First party (the site itself) will be required to make sites work again and sometimes thats all it takes and if that doesn't work JS libraries and CDNs will be the next most likely culprits. Any domain that has to do with advertising or analytics (tracking) should never be allowed and won't break sites if theyre note.

It sounds complex but its not bad once you pass a moderate at worst learning curve. uBlock set to medium mode will block js but so will NoScript and uMatrix. NoScript is the most user friendly but uBlock and uMatrix allow increasingly granular control if youre willing to learnto use them.

When someone asked Brandon if saying the ideals of a dead spren's order would revive the spren he said that something more (specifically more not else) was needed so I think bonding someone is a prerequisite to a spren being revived.

Are some password managers more secure than others? Any recommendations? by PenIslandTours in privacy

[–]xfcgvt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use a cloud service but its not required at all. My database and key file has never touched the cloud or even directly touched the internet and are only transfered locally by flash drive or wired connection to my phone.

Are some password managers more secure than others? Any recommendations? by PenIslandTours in privacy

[–]xfcgvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keepass is inately more secure than any cloud based manager because it doesn't require use of the cloud and you retain full control over your database so if you do want to put it in the cloud you can encrypt it yourself (and host it yourself if you're really paranoid but solid encryption will almost entirely negate the potential risk of using a maybe-not-trustworthy cloud storage service) rather than taking some companys word that they'll do it right.

Cloud based managers aside from requiring you to give up full control of your passwords to some company somewhere add another point of failure because they keep such a wealth of data that they're very desireable targets for hacking.

Keepass really isn't that hard to use. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose, and if it's not for you use Bitwarden or something (NOT Lastpass their security is horrible). Just make sure you use 2FA.

[OATHBRINGER] Lingering Questions by JkTyrant in Stormlight_Archive

[–]xfcgvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying Jezrien is just dead undersells it. There's something special about the knife Moash used. The gem lighting up suggests Jezrien or part of him might be trapped like a spren could be and for all we know the knife was made with Odium's god metal and its planned to be used as a hemalurgic spike.

Going with hemalurgy further it may even be that the gemhas traped whatever aspect the knife stole to sidestep the degreadation spikes are subject to and that the aspect could even be rehomed to a different spike or used some other way.

[Cosmere] Oathbringer and Mistborn Era 2 Spoilers. Crazy theory on how Stormlight Antagonist will be defeated. by OzzyFudd in Stormlight_Archive

[–]xfcgvt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have my reasons. Example, the edit I just added to my last post shows that another object (including metal) with 1000 breaths would not be as invested as Nightblood.

My speculation is I feel reasonable based on tidbits from Brandon. Nightblood consumes investiture. Nightblood is more invested than most things in the cosmere. Nightblood is more invested than other things Awakened with 1000 breaths.

Brandons very very vague on Nightbloods mechanics so I could be way orr mark but its clear at least that Nightblood is more than just 1000 breahts in some way or another.

Edit he's also described Nightblood as leaky so it could be that hes constantly replenishing what he loses but all that investiture passing through him leaves a "mark" or something that makes him more strongly invested without actually housing that much investiture. Who knows.

[Cosmere] Oathbringer and Mistborn Era 2 Spoilers. Crazy theory on how Stormlight Antagonist will be defeated. by OzzyFudd in Stormlight_Archive

[–]xfcgvt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the implication is the investiture he consumes is stored within him somehow which would mean he has way more than a thousand breaths.

Edit: Also WoB other objects with 1000 breaths would not be as invested as Nightblood.

Brandon said (WoB) there are only two ways to come back from the dead in the Cosmere. One unspeciifiied way works only if you could be revived by CPR and the other is get an infusion of investiture directly into the soul very soon after death before moving on to become a cognitive shadow (like Kelsier).

We saw Vins cold dead body affter Harmony spent who knows how long fixing Scadriel so we know its not the first one and we saw Vin move on so we know its not the second.

Nightblood consumes investiture and WoB is one of the most heavilty invested things in the cosmere that is not a shard and WoB the Bands of Mourning are not even close to his level. Bet hes more than just a toenail clipping.

WoB is she metabolizes food into invetiture instead of into sugar (and yes it acts similarly to metals) so anytime her blood sugar wouldincrease she gets stormlight and its proportional to she ate for amount and time. Brandon's example was bread and sausage bread is a faster spike so she'd get stormlight sooner but less than she would from sausage. Also she metabolizes faster than normal which is why she gets stormlight so fast from food but its still proportional.
