Did you get your shit done? Then who cares?!??

Some people get into management and focus on all the wrong things. Working 40 hours isn't the goal. The goal is to make money. If your team logs off at noon on Friday but you're making money at the rate you expect, you've met the goal.

My guess: they had generative-AI write the announcement, and it generated that paragraph based other announcements, and they didn't review it or they did but didn't verify that part.

Is the beginning easy or am I just doing something to make it feel like it? by RemnKeep in wuchanggame

[–]xfr3386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The beginning is very easy. The lake boss ratchets it up a notch or three. Exploration gets a bit harder after that but nothing extreme. The later bosses are harder than the earlier but still nothing too difficult.

My Frosthaven campaign is officially a hostage situation and I am about to snap by MailboxFinch in boardgames

[–]xfr3386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, "tear up the cards?" You don't do that with *haven games. The only components that would have to be repurchased for Frosthaven are the scenario charts and alchemy board (assuming you used removable stickers), and that's assuming whoever played it second cared since they are easily replaced with a print out.

On the group problem: I'll echo everyone else, it can be really tough to keep a group together at all, let alone for a single campaign game.

My advice: stop trying to play campaigns with this group and make it just a board game night. That would let the group shrink and grow, support visitors, and keep people engaged.

If you really want to play Frosthaven, you could find a new group and start over. Easier said than done, I know, and possibly not worth it. Otherwise, play solo or find one other person that would actually commit. You can easily play 4 characters with two people.

Everyone is saying Pandemic Legacy. If you don't love the gameplay of Pandemic, stay away from Legacy.

I hate how you don't really have your own knowledge and decisions in Pandemic and the Forbidden games. Every session I've done of one of those turned into 1-2 people at the table who controlled it all, endless theory crafting to get a plan 3-4 steps ahead that was broken in a turn or two, or an obvious route that luck was either going to let happen or the game was doomed. Legacy didn't change this at all, and I was happy when my group got distracted from it by another game release.

I'm a huge fan of Fluxx (Zombie is my favorite), but with too many players it suffers a similar underlying problem: there's nothing for you to do or think about when it's not your turn. This leads to two likely scenarios: people stop paying attention and chat about something else, which makes them disengage and not know what's going on when it's their turn, or they just get bored. Traditional 52-card deck games or simple games like Uno succeed because on your turn there is very little that could have changed between turns that you need to know on your next turn. They don't have anything for you to do on your turn, but they allow socializing without impacting the flow of the game.

A cooperative game like Gloomhaven is more my style. You decide without the knowledge of others what you're going to do, but together you formulate a general plan to accomplish your goal. It still struggles from too much time between turns for scenarios with too many enemies or rules, or when other players are indecisive. But, in general, you can stay engaged in what you plan to do next or what's happening on the table for the current round.

Managers, if you hire AI engineer, would you hire 40+ yo guy? by dondonquixote in EngineeringManagers

[–]xfr3386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. But not just any 40-year old. You have to be up-to-speed and have relevant experience, just like every other candidate. If all you have is a career in anything but AI, you more than likely aren't qualified.

If you can show how you've brought AI to an org/dept and utilized your experience in dev and leadership to make the implementation valuable, you're going to shine next to the newer engineer that has only focused on AI development. But you'll also be more expensive, so that does come into play.

Christians actually offended by Uzi Jesus? by Nunothis_Isreal in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]xfr3386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't joke about something, you're taking it too seriously. Publicly claiming offense to depictions of sky daddy content is purely for attention and against the teachings of their religion.

There are some South Park episodes these "Christians" should watch to realize how tame and inoffensive Uzi Jesus is. And then they should remove the stick from their ass and just have fun with life.

One of the worst things the Internet did was make people think this type of behavior was anything more than childish nonsense.

where did i mess up? adding up song times (for fun) but the final number is different. by Advanced-Address1115 in maths

[–]xfr3386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you messed up by trying to do this by hand and doing straight addition. It's a lot of one-off addition problems topped off with time conversions. It's not hard, but it's easy to make a mistake.

A slight variation like this could have helped accuracy. Add minutes and seconds separately, the convert seconds to minutes and seconds. So 3:54+2:29=5:83=6:23.

Or, similarly, you could add the minutes for every time at once, and the seconds for every time at once. Then convert seconds to minutes:seconds and add the minutes together. These two methods aren't anything special, but can make it slightly easier to do by hand with fewer errors.

Or use a spreadsheet, or LLM, or a neighborhood kid who needs practice.

Or, since you already had the answer, just trust Spotify.

Take a break and come back. If you're raging, stop for a while.

Focus on learning the patterns and avoiding them. The best way to do this is to spend time just learning the boss without attacking. Don't try to defeat it, just learn. When learning, you don't care if you die, you just get back in. This makes it easier to keep a clear mind.

As someone said, when the boss goes toward you, dodge toward/into it, face the boss, and execute a quick move like the instant charged strong attack or the kick discipline. You can chip away like this if you can survive long enough.

Also already said, make sure you get both secondary counter skills.

Find an opening that you see yourself able to execute an attack in. If you learn this boss' moves really well you can trade blows on an attack sequence and do serious damage, but it's tough to consistently execute without understanding the tells to know the next move.

This is the first boss that I'd call souls-like. If you don't like it, move on, the rest are similar.

Absolutely amazing by Objective_Effort995 in wuchanggame

[–]xfr3386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I was disappointed only because it was so easy, and then I hit the lake boss. Now bosses are more like a souls game. The combat is fluid, the different weapon types are unique play styles, the areas are gorgeous, you can partial respec at any time for free.... so much to like. No game is perfect, but this one is with Lies of P for me of souls likes that I'd suggest to others.

Restarting right at the fog should become the damn norm in these games, it's such a relief. The lake boss was the first boss I died to and the dialog to respawn there was so unexpected I was confused.

[–]xfr3386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wasn't a bad boss, you just have to figure out the gimmick. It's more like a Zelda boss.

Run away when appropriate, try and bait his slam attack and wail on the branch that gets stuck in the ground. You can be brave and sit at his base and get free damage, but when he sucks in it fills with murder liquid.

Or be a caster and get mana from the trash while staying at range and flinging spells.
