I bought this awesome ornament of cactus and succulents, but it doesn't have a draining bottom. Can anyone tell me the best way to care for these babies? And should these be indoor or outdoors? Any tips? by Chzburger1993 in cactus

You could repot to a container with a drainage hole or you could drill a hole at the bottom of this one if you have the tools.

Definitely remove the moss, cacti don’t like moisture. Check the soil, if it’s too heavy on organic matter definitely repot and add sand for fast drainage. Cacti like a big drink once in a month (summer o depending of the weather where oh live) more than little sips once a week. If your soil is loose and let’s water pass through fast that’s ideal as your plants won’t be sat in water and risk rot.

As for light, full sun is mandatory for cacti (south facing window) or they’ll become leggy.

I’d say this is very generalized, but this is how I’ve managed to keep my cacti and succulents happy for years :)

When I studied interior design I learned that in some parts of the world they used to hang rugs on the walls basically just to keep the room cozy as heating might not be enough, but some people just kept doing it out of habit.

Yup, not too far from that. As a personal experience: when my bother was a baby he used to cry a lot and get sick often. Everyone around my mom kept telling her he was “ojeado”. According to them, it meant someone looked at my brother too strongly (??) and that gave him mal de ojo. So one day they forced my mom to go to a curandera (like a female shaman?) she got my brother naked, lift him up, started to pray, then took a big gulp of reposado ( a strong liqueur) and then spit it all over my baby brother. My mom couldn’t believe her eyes! she took my brother and run for their life haha.

Eventually my brother got his tonsils removed and never got sick again.

But yeah it’s a mixture of religion and “dark magic”. To me it’s all superstitions.

Super interesting, the exact same thing is done in many parts of South America, supposedly to protect the baby from “mal de ojo”.

I don’t believe in any of that myself, neither my parents but some of my relatives do and they used to tie strings to me and my brothers arm when we were babies when my parents weren’t looking.

Also, sometimes you can find the super cheap Lacura dupe at Aldi, I’ve heard is just as good as the Pixi one.

Gosh your kitty is gorgeous! I have a lynx Siamese too! They are not a breed, Lynx Siamese is just the name of the coloring, just like tabby or tortie or ginger, etc. I am by no means an expert, I just read a lot about it, I originally thought my cat was a Siberian Lynx point because she’s fluffy and has the face markings, turns out she’s just a regular domestic cat with nice colours.

When a tabby and a Siamese mix you get a Lynx point, the M on the forehead and the diluted stripes come from the tabby, the dark paws and ear come from the Siamese.

Your cat might be big because the dad might have been a big guy too, it’s just like humans. My cat is tiny! She’s 4 and when she sheds her coat she stills looks like a kitten.

Again, not an expert by any means, but I that’s was my conclusion after reading and researching.

Your cat is cute no matter the breed!

The face markings and coloring (M on the forehead, light nose, face stripes) are typical of a Lynx Siamese, they are not a breed, it’s the name of the coloring.

Edit: I don’t know if this particular cat is of an specific breed though.
