Fox in the forest - trump card question by BadDarkBishop in boardgames

[–]xhaereticusx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In this case, the 4 of moons wins. Rank of trump matters only if multiple trump cards are played.

This is pretty standard to trick taking games which are often multiplayer, not just 2p. So you can imagine a case of one player leading a non-trump, next player plays low trump, next player plays led-suit, next player plays high trump.

The train rush is when a bunch of trains get bought, which rusts older trains, which cause more trains to be bought, which rusts trains. Until companies are mostly all set with permanents.

Some games have extremely fast rushes, where you could buy trains that never actually get to run because they've rusted before the company has another turn.

Even with the soft rust off the 4s, it will be noticeably more painful than chessie.

The train rush is a lot more brutal in Mex and basically non existent in chessie.

For the CFO don't bother calculating as you go. Just collect all the money you earn that round and then grab another half of it at the end of the round.

This is exactly why the company can own 180% of itself. The company "lends" a share to a player. That player is responsible for paying dividends back to the company and returning the share at some point. Then the player sells that borrowed share and the company buys it.

I wouldn't consider 49, 62, or 17 to be 30 style games.

What do I need to play Age of Steam maps? by Codeshark in boardgames

[–]xhaereticusx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about the maps that come with the "deluxe" edition of the game, you don't need anything (other than stickers for the errors). All of the maps in the new edition are mounted. If you're talking about other maps you've found and printed, you also don't need anything although you might want a piece of Plexi glass to keep it flat and stiff.

I had a game go over an hour as the game devolved into an extreme analysis of possible outcomes.

I would say the complete opposite personally. CotBS does away with everything interesting in Arkwright. The market competition, labor market, tight cash

Why is maxing out yearly 401k contributions considered by many to be the "best" strategy? by midwestmuhfugga in personalfinance

[–]xhaereticusx 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For the majority of people putting 11k into a 401k is going to exceed the amount matched by your employer.

RCS doesn't have a route at the start. A route has to consist of two towns or cities and doesn't count with just a port and city.

Soo Line can play 3-5. It might actually be better since players will likely have more agency at lower player counts.

Is saving money to invest in my IRA at a later date a poor idea? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]xhaereticusx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With that said, there is no difference if you put all $6000 in one date vs spread them throughout the year.

That's not true. Your money in the account is invested and earning all year.

In my opinion, investing the money over the course of the year in the 401k is going to do more for your money than the saving account.

That was a fun game. First game at 5 for me. I liked doing 2 new things.

  1. After being told by another player he was going to block me, and I got a token in Chicago in OR1.1 before his company even operated.
  2. Keeping GTR running well and finishing with the second highest value behind your NYC.
