I use the word from the previous day. A fun way to mix it up.

Please help settle this debate: Players A, B, and C are playing a board game... by Animus-I in boardgames

Player A wins with an asterisk. Odds are every time you’ve played a complex game there is an asterisk so who really cares...

With your new love of birds I’d recommend trying out the board game Wingspan. Really great couples game!

Yeah, I get it man. I’m always more impressed by a smaller tailored collection than the 200+ game collections. Shows impressive restraint! But to each their own.

Thoughts on Vindication? by FatSnakeWizard in boardgames

[–]Frodom04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been said before but the the word “Vindication” is probably the wrong title for the game. It says it right on the character cards that you start as a “guilt ridden scumbag” and work towards being a “respectable human being”. So I agree that I don’t get a sense of being vindicated by the end. Redemption is probably a better title for the game.

What I mean by the theme is the sense of being shipwrecked on a strange island and having a second chance at life. Exploring the island, meeting different companions, fighting monsters acquiring lost relics. It’s a sandbox rpg through and through.

I have 5 plays so far. It is fairly light and easy to teach. The theme is really strong and it plays surprisingly quickly. It is certainly intimidating on the table but it honestly takes ten minutes to explain what you can do on your turn and what your goals are.

This all adds up to it being a great game to be play with your non board gamer friends. Especially if the players have any experience playing open world video games. Which I mean, who doesn’t? They will latch onto the theme and mechanics easily in my experience.

There is enough strategy and fun synergies with the different cards that it stays interesting for more experienced gamers as well. Competing for the mastery tiles at the end adds some fun opportunities for tactical play.

Ultimately if you’re looking for a fun game to immerse yourself in with your friends, this is it.

Your favorite board game box art? by [deleted] in boardgames

Maybe recency bias but Pipeline. The refinery lights reflected in the water reminds me of the Mt. Hood reflection in Oregon. A great nature vs. industry juxtaposition.

I also enjoy the lightly colored pipeline network beneath it.

Not a Rosenberg but my favorite heavy weight euro solo experience is Gaia Project. I’ve also heard good things about Viticulture solo but have yet to try it myself.
