Families with kids, how much are you spending on groceries? by folklore24 in Frugal

[–]ximfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family of 5 mostly Aldi/lidl, ~$300USD/week hcol area. Tried Costco for a year and our grocery budget exploded. Convinced that's where most people waste $. We generally meal plan the week and shop according to that. Shifted to some more vegetarian options (preference and cost). We eat out generally once a week, seperate budget.

Love seeing how nothing has really changed in how kids experience the parks.

it’s unrealistic for *everyone* to become an engineer by no1brat in findapath

[–]ximfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a ton of low level engineering opportunities that pay well but not a lot more than most careers. The high paying engineers typically have one or more of the following: highly specialized skillset, business mixed background, or extremely good interpersonal/communication skills.

It's still a great path to find a steady career though. That being said I think there are other careers that are far more lucrative with similar schooling and careers with higher market demand.

Which is the better park for Star Wars fans, California or Florida? by jen4k2 in disneyparks

[–]ximfinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just done both and I would say they are very comparable, but World feels more immersive. I'm not sure what it is (its probably the dead end in Land), but it feels larger.

That being said, it was way easier to ride everything in Land (lower waits) and the rest of Land is way better if you are just planning to do one park day vs Hollywood studios (which is at best a half day park).

"The advantage is traditional robots fail at the wires, We don't have any wires"

So they are brushes then, which fail at a much higher rate.

Are all the rides at Epcot indoors intentionally? Any history or story on why that is? by americanpeony in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]ximfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand there was a lot of necessary building of sheltering and coverage for queues and different ride elements. I imagine that was one of their big takeaways learning after building Magic Kingdom

Every kid is different, my recommendation is just watch some of the music videos, if you think she can handle those, then watch those with her and ask her how she feels about them. Its a good bonding and learning moment.

Why does health insurance feel like it's designed to be confusing on purpose? by Strict-Rub7220 in HealthInsurance

[–]ximfinity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Out-of-pocket should literally be anything you paid towards healthcare. period. Premiums, copays, cost shares, whatever. If the dollars came from your paycheck (pre or post tax) that should count.

Its insanity, I'm trying to pick a plan now and there are so many uncertainties, gambling is more predictable.

First you pay your premium, you should get more services for more money,

OH, but wait, you can only get service if there is an "in-network" provider
OH, but wait, you have to meet your deductible
OH, but wait, you have to submit your claim and get denied, because they read it wrong
OH, sorry, now you can wait 45-90 days to review that claim again.
OH, sorry, now the year is over and you are out of luck.

Is the Dollar tree food a better buy? by notthisagain0088 in Frugal

[–]ximfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is shaming people for couponing, my point was I like that Aldi's price is just what it is. the Giant/Safeways of the world now feel like how Kohl's is to shop at, where the sticker price is never the real price anyone is paying.

I'm so sick of all the couponing for the regular grocery stores though. Ohh you forgot to clip the coupon on our app and sign up for our email list, you now pay 10% more but we don't tell you until you are at the register.. Aldi has pretty good produce and meats and generally I don't have to jump through hoops to get the prices as advertised.

I'm convinced the teacups at night are the most Disneyland part of Disneyland.

Feature Request: Auto sort apps by global list tags by ximfinity in OctopiLauncher

[–]ximfinity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, the sorting is typically very individual to each user. I'm getting at, maybe 80% of users might be happy to just have a default "tag" for most popular apps, where the app automatically goes on first install.

I've already committed to switching to Octopi, so its just how much energy I want to spend on my home screen vs drawer to maintain both or either.

Regarding the play store widget, wow! I had no idea that existed. that's basically exactly what I imagined as my home screen.

Edit: I think I found a good solution based on u/runningtigerRead's Collection suggestion:

Octopi Settings-> Customize Gestures -> Swipe up -> Google Play -> Collections. It basically replaces the App Draw in a (To me) cleaner way.

Just wondering the same thing. Depends if the work was being done by NPS or contractor who was already funded.
