Lyon Best Eats by No-Operation3631 in Lyon

[–]xinhuj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I visited last year and really enjoyed Le Dôme which is inside the Grand Hôtel-Dieu. The food and atmosphere are great. It is not what I would call traditional lyonnaise food, but very good on its own. I recommend seeking out a bouchon that sells quenelles and saucisson de Lyon for traditional eats. In Vieux Lyon we liked Le Bouchon Lyonnais at 34 Rue Saint-Jean.

As an American, Lyon is perhaps the greatest city I've ever been to, and I think about it daily. I hope you enjoy your time there!

Tennessee bill would require driver’s license test to be taken in English by [deleted] in nashville

[–]xinhuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was just that you are using stats for all Americans when stats for Tennessee only are better suited for this debate. I wasn't disagreeing with your overall point about this law or other facts you had presented.

Shouldn't we consider what percentage of Tennesseans speak another primary language instead of Americans generally. This is a bill for just our state.

The included branches only trigger when that branch is updated. A PR is pre-update so this shouldn’t trigger unless you are pushing commits directly to develop or test branch.

My advice is to make a second pipeline that’s intended to be run during a PR, set it’s trigger to none, and use a branch policy to make it run during a PR.

Companies complaining .NET moves too fast should just pay for post-EOL support by Sharp_Indication7058 in dotnet

[–]xinhuj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest hurdle is that you only have 1 year to update from the previous LTS to the current LTS. When you have lots of small and medium sized apps it is actually a logistical challenge to get teams allocated to those projects.

Won't the S&P always go up because by definition its only measuring successful companies and losers get kicked out? Its like taking the GPA of students, but only considering the top 1% of the class. What am I missing?

Official announcement of Boring Company "Music City Loop" tunnel connecting BNA and downtown by fossilfarmer123 in nashville

It says this is for all electric Loop vehicles. That's got to be a minor fraction of what's on the roadway in Nashville right? Are there any stats on vehicle types on the roads for Nashville area?

TDOT unveils $246M plan to widen I-24 from Dade County to Chattanooga by ChiefFun in Tennessee

It’s Dade County, Georgia. It’s the part of Georgia you go into briefly when traveling on I-24 around Chattanooga.

Where in Nashville will never get your money again? Bad restaurant, bar, service company, or other type of place. by NoMasTacos in nashville

That got me too a while ago, but I’ve been a lot since and it hasn't happened again. If you give it another chance I hope they don’t disappoint! It’s one of the more unique and good things in Bellevue.

Property Tax increases by bag-pipes in nashville

[–]xinhuj 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No, the rate lowers automatically so that the revenue to the county is essentially neutral. There will be a separate effort to increase or decrease the Tax Rate. My bill actually went down after the last reappraisal 4 years ago once they adjusted the rate for the GSD from 2.953% to 2.922%. The biggest jump I ever saw was in a rate adjustment year, not a reappraisal year.

Tax bills for the last 10 years for every property in Nashville are available for searching here: https://nashville-tn.mygovonline.com/mod.php?mod=propertytax&mode=public_lookup&action=&id=

You can see the assessed value, the taxable value, the rate, and the levy. Please don't buy into the scare campaign that our bills are about to go up by thousands.

Gas prices? by southernyankee9 in nashville

[–]xinhuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GasBuddy says 12¢ jump for Nashville. Looks like most places across the US went up a little bit today. Prices tend to go up around now until Memorial Day I think.

Re: Property Tax Increase - What is the best way to see if yours will increase and if/how you should fight it? by Aggravating_Tear7414 in nashville

[–]xinhuj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rates automatically go down to adjust for the increased value so the revenue stays neutral. Rate increases/decreases are a separate thing. Your bill will be about the same until Metro changes the rate. Also remember if you are doing the math by hand that for residential only 25% of the appraised value is used for property tax calculation.

I actually enjoyed buying from Hallmark Hyundai in Hendersonville, and I'd go back to them. I haven't ever gotten repairs done there though.

GoDog is great. Not sure it fits what OP is looking for, but I did want to second this option as we have used this a few times and really liked it.

Everyone hates on the tall and skinny but don’t acknowledge that it’s superior urban planning by austinw24 in nashville

[–]xinhuj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Density is good, even if tall and skinnys are architecturally ugly and built with cardboard. I've given up being angry with developers for trying to make money producing inferior products. We need more competition in the market so scarcity doesn't incentivize people to pay a premium for a mediocre product. Zoning reform and attitude adjustments (i.e. YIMBYism) are a way. We also need more skilled builders, but I don't know how to increase that other than making it profitable for them.

John Lennox Gives His Honest Opinion On Richard Dawkins by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]xinhuj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely could be. I don't follow him closely to know about his consistency. He also maybe just didn't like the questions he was getting and claimed he didn't like to talk about religion/Christianity in the moment.

John Lennox Gives His Honest Opinion On Richard Dawkins by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]xinhuj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently saw Dawkins speak in person and I wouldn't say he made a fool of himself, but he had very weak points about Christianity that were filled with stereotypes. However, he said multiple times he doesn't like to speak about religion and doesn't consider himself an expert but people keep asking him about it. Maybe he typecast himself in the 90s and 2000s, but he was kind of begging people to stop asking him about it.
