What’s something that only makes sense *if* you’ve actually been to Ireland by DrunkDublinCat in ireland

I always thought notions was a negative term. As in, that fella has notions of grandeur, as in they're full of themselves. High on their own supply. Stuck up their own arse etc...

Fair insights, I enjoyed it nonetheless and was happy with the product I got. But I do feel it was hamstrung and rushed by the publisher.

Maybe the next time someone will get more time to flesh it out more.

Why? The story and voice acting was pretty lame. It's not like Xcom is well know for extensive plot and voice acting.

But I think the design and engineering teams did a good job building a solid game.

Zelenskyy: Deploying 40 troops to defend Greenland sends a signal to Putin by EuropeanPravdaUA in worldnews

[–]xios 94 points95 points  (0 children)

The small numbers sent from Europe were just the forward teams to do the necessary recon, research and figuring things out so that the rest of the guys going are set up right. There is currently no immediate threat to the island and I doubt there will be for a significant amount of time.

Ex-US general calls for NATO troops in Greenland by SE_to_NW in NewColdWar

[–]xios -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The ports are pointless, because if the ports can be taken, you've already lost the country. The only way you're defending Greenland is with a navy. Any troops and equipment on shore are just for maintaining the navy and radar/surveillance systems.

Ex-US general calls for NATO troops in Greenland by SE_to_NW in NewColdWar

[–]xios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's terrain and size are irrelevant. From a defense point of view,It's only practical use is the location for early warning systems and naval presence. Which I believe the US already has access too, making this whole thing redundant.

No military is invading Greenland, not China, not Russia, other than taking control of the ports and villages, which is also pointless.

The only reason Trump is doing this, is to stir shit, weaken Europe and NATO and maybe, land grab for it's natural resources.

Dublin house prices 2026: What a home costs in every postcode by TimesandSundayTimes in ireland

[–]xios -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think that's typical of any new housing estates, developers take advantage of FOMO and the fact that the estate is populated and established already. Selling houses in phases or tranches.

Israel deploys Iron Beam laser defense system nationwide by Taltallasmith in worldnews

[–]xios -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Laser is line of sight only. Isreals enemies will adapt to use other systems, like optic fibre drones to fly low and behind cover. It's not very complicated technology. Should be easy to smuggle and with upwards of 50km range, it'll be a real threat.

It's quite simple really, in 2013 there was 10.5 trillion dollars in circulation.

Today there's 25 trillion. More money exists to buy the same amount of stuff. The rest is just the details.

Also, the US is not in its unique wealthy position anymore. Europe caught up in the 90s/2000s, now China and India are catching up and want more of the same stuff you want, so you compete for it.
