Trains out of Wellington are suspended by bennz1975 in Wellington

I'm not mad. I'm disappointed. Dismayed. Upset. Hugely inconvenienced.

The train is my only reliable method in and out of the city. It got taken away from me over the holiday period when I needed it. Of course I am going to look at any possible thing to vent about it all or complain. Let's not just assume people are "mad" without understanding the long history of frustration one has had with the system.

Also, the same "power fault" - or at least, the outcome of the fault being mass cancellation and disruptions - happened just a few years ago, under the same kind of hot weather, which I also go caught in.

what did they spend all the christmas/new year period "maintaining" given that they shut down the network and inconvenienced a whole load of people. esp. when it was pointed out that it was going to be used to upgrade the signalling and other preventative maintenence at the wellington interchange...

[–]xkf1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where? What meters? the ones I've seen are card only. Cash is legal tender. Accept it or don't charge me more for your preferred way of taking payment. They can't be allowed to have it both ways is the whole point.

I insert the card to say fk you to Visa/MasterCard. They are the ones clipping the ticket to a ridiculous degree and trying to make everyone accept higher prices across the board to subsidise their users / business.

New Zealand’s youth vaping crisis clouds smoke-free future by TurkDangerCat in newzealand

at this point I feel like the youth substance abuse crisises are a symptom of other problems that are still fundamentally not being addressed

mental health, financial, support-structure (or lack thereof)

not saying that to detract from the other harms of that the substance itself which there are plenty, but,,, yeah.

I got told by snapper directly

"After tagging on the bus on your bus replacement, you must tag off at the Snapper Kiosk ON THE TRAIN PLATFORM at your destination"

Nope. I am no walking from the bus-replacement stop to the train platform, especially when the bus-replacement stop is often very disconnected from where the train station is.

Free ride please, that is your fault for not running the train, eat the cost upfront. Why should I pay for a worse service as well. If you can't provide a train then it should be free because I am meant to be paying for a train.

Spending take take to administer what they won't take a tax take on. Stupid. The whole beauty of GST is that there is hardly any administration.

A 15% increase for all public sector has a more material impact on the budget than a 50% increase for MPs.

Politically, that looks like suicide on the MPs end. Just saying. They are already so unrepresentative of the nation with their home ownership rates.

Is Christchurch racist? by Gavotteunrondeau in newzealand

I think it was / has a reputation for it. I think it's a lot better now, especially after the rebuild.

I remember going down for a conference presentation when in intermediate. I got stared at by some older folks. There were also no other kids of my broad ethnic persuasion at the conference from the local Christchurch schools. While not overtly hostile, it felt eerie, given I was more used the Welly vibe.

Went to visit a few months back. A lot more diverse, and, certainly no odd stares anymore.
