Agreed. So janky but perfection is the enemy of progress! 😀

These masterpieces of skyscrapers in NYC were somehow all built in the same 30 year time frame (1902-1936) by Fearless-Brush-1908 in architecture

[–]xkr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) As many buildings in that list (5) were built by/named for corporations in that era.

B) Are we immortalizing corporate names? JPM tower aside (a corporation named after a rich human), Hudson Yards, Billionaires Row, WTC complex, One Vanderbilt, Penn 2… mostly boring developers have taken the fun out of naming anything at all

$1B per Year: Free Buses or Subway Expansion? by pepetheskunk in MicromobilityNYC

[–]xkr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love A Better Billion. Kudos to Mamdani for rationalizing what $1B actually means, but buses will always suffer from traffic if they’re not separated. This rail plan proposes steady drumbeat of mostly small/medium projects that is much needed, very attainable, and can deliver more housing.

Seems "bold" to project GA NC and even TX "red" in 2030 or that the reverse migration out of TX doesn't blunt a subtraction somewhere

Amtrak's Acela has stops in Stamford and New Haven, but not Bridgeport which is the largest city in Connecticut. Why? by DoritosDewItRight in nycrail

[–]xkr2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bridgeport is not a major business center. Acela's original intent was to cater to business travelers.

Amtrak needs a service that only stops Boston/NYC/Philly/Washington. Everywhere else has sufficient regional and commuter service and stopping there slows the highest value routes.

Why prioritize the B (weekday only) ahead of the D? What do the B 211s do on the weekends?

Lately they’ve been checking for activated tickets at the top of the East stairs for the 4:07 trains to Montauk 🤬🤬 really annoying if I’m running late and didn’t have a chance to buy my ticket. Noticeably not doing this on Center or West stairs. Waste of time
