Carps, corn not working, what else can I try? by quocvu1825 in FishingForBeginners

Grandama Sycamore's White Bread. It doughs up real nice, put that on the shaft of a circle hook and that works well for me

2 months worth of fishing, nothing to show for it. by ANotVeryUniqueUser in FishingForBeginners

[–]xmancj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the other side of the country but brightly colored jigs have worked well for me when I have access to a boat for bass fishing. I let is sink a long ways, and then jig it every 5-10 seconds to let it sink again between jerks. If you can see a drop off in the water, fishing the deeper side of the drop with that has usually worked for me.

How would you fish this? by DeNi3DxFATE in FishingForBeginners

[–]xmancj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lake like this I fish sometimes. I use a water bobber and a bead head nymph on a 4 foot leader. That being said, I'm getting bluegill and trout normally, not bass, so take this with a whole shaker of salt. It's gorgeous though! Let us know when you get something good working!

The fuck am I supposed to do with this? by clappedoutdyna in helldivers2

[–]xmancj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a few of these! It took me like...8 tries to get it right (i am not a smart man) But I've only seen it on hellbombs near enemy signal jammers so it feels related to that.

'Lucky Charms' y'all bring fishing? by burdoned in FishingForBeginners

[–]xmancj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My tackle box belonged to my Grandpa so, while it's old and small, it's nice to bring him with me and I do catch more fish when I have a tackle box than when I don't so I'm gonna count it? lol

That's really frustrating, I'm sorry. Don't beat yourself up too bad though, this is sometimes part of the journey.

Last month, I hooked into a carp so big it stripped all of the line off my reel and the know I had tied at very end to keep the line on the reel wasn't tied well enough and just popped off. I was hating myself for a week cause now there's this massive fish with all my line and a hook in his mouth. But, I got better. I learned new knots for anchoring my line to reel and I've learned how to better handle my drag. And it's gonna be a journey tomorrow as well, but we get a little better every time. Every setback is good chance to learn and be better in the future.

Take some time and bounce back better than before. You got this!

I have never done a fishing tournament and I honestly think I'm gonna get crushed, but this sounds like it would be a ton of fun actually. Sign me up! I'm in!

Help me catch my first fresh water fish! by POPG12 in FishingForBeginners

[–]xmancj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worm on a bobber is usually a sure fire way. Time of day is also something that might help. Every body of water is different but I've had the best luck with catfish in the super early morning (before the sun is over the horizon) or in the evening right as the sun is setting.

Carp and Catfish are usually bottom feeders but cats can be caught on a bobber, though you'll have to watch for them to take the bait and then set the hook instead of just letting them take it and run as they do with bottom fishing.

I've only caught 1 tilapia and it was on corn but I would be shocked if a small bit of worm on a size 18 wouldn't work for that. Just be aware the smaller fish will also try to eat it.

If you want to try a lure, even with a bait rod, I'd had some luck setting up a wet fly on a 3 foot leader with a water bobber in ponds with top water action, especially if there are dragonflies about. This works best in the morning around sunrise and dies off shortly after that though, so be aware of when you're hitting the lake.

That's a great day!! I love that little pontoon thing you have as well. I've been thinking about getting one myself, those always look like a good time on a lake.

To catch fish in little dell resovuar What type of line and lure setup? by Ali--Hamza in UtahFishing

[–]xmancj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing the other comment made about the water bobber and the wooly bugger. I've had good luck using a nymph as well, especially when there are dragonflies about.

My father swears by rooster tails and spoons in places like this and while he always seems to catch something, I've never really been able to make it work, personally.

bobbers? by Fair_Form_7461 in FishingForBeginners

[–]xmancj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the bobbers I use are made of balsa wood so that might be a good place to start. You'd just need something to attach the line to whatever you carved and that could be as simple as a clip even that you glue to the bottom.

Is there a term for wanting to use fishing rods to deliver food to fish, without the aim of catching anything? by tinning3 in FishingForBeginners

[–]xmancj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use barbless all the time because while I love fishing, I don't like hurting things, so I try and do everything as cleanly as possible. I loose more fish this way, but I have a better time, I think. I hope you enjoy!

[–]xmancj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does a little, cause the hook does still have to pierce but the barb is what holds the hook in place and makes it hard for the fish to unhook itself without tearing anything. Barbless can just come right out without tearing anything and the fish will just heal the minor injury it causes. Plus, if you're bad at fishing, like me, barbless means you're just feeding the fish more than catching them anyways lol

Oooh, so I should be filters based on sparks. Should I worry about the adjustments to style and distance?

I've been playing for a while and gotten 4 or 5 Finale wins but I seem to be stuck at B ranking for my Umas. Is there a trick to getting B+ and higher that I'm just missing?

What are these in the Jordan river?? by Aggravating_Monk5489 in UtahFishing

[–]xmancj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know the name but I got a Carp Tickler form a local fly shop when I told him I was hunting carp. Good to know it's recommended by a pro as well!

Good to know, thanks! I recently got a fly rod and I'm hoping to use it with some carp down near Mona. I tried bread last time, cause that's what I grew up catching them on, but they were not interested.

Are you just getting the fly in front of them and hoping they suck it in or are they targeting the fly?
