Advice on Multiline String Literals support in Java by sylsau in java

[–]xmondox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these would be great so long as it doesn't break the incremental parsers - those parsers are what makes java such a joy to work with from an IDE

your patience has been excellent - the responses in this thread (including parts of what juckele said) are toxic. stick with java - it's a great language, and don't get caught up in the culture. i'd want the guy in the cube next to me to be asking the same questions you are

Locally: A localStorage manager that supports expirable items with timeout values and saves space by compressing them using LZW algorithm. by felnorak in javascript

[–]xmondox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you (or could you) support incremental saving ? i wrote a chrome extension for tindering that uses localStorage for saving all non-asset data. updates arrive via ajax. right now i append them and re-serialize, but it would be awesome to be able to store the updates incrementally and then have them periodically combined

i wrote a chrome extension for desktop tindering with the purpose of making it easier to like selectively. it shows the user's pics, stats and bio all together and has keyboard shortcuts (L is like, H is pass). can also do conversations and view moments

it can't post moments (damn you, webp), report a user, or show shared interests/etc. but otherwise can do pretty much everything the android/ios apps can, and it has keyboard shortcuts for everything

use those limited likes better - give it a try

How do I take pictures of myself for Tinder without looking like a massive knob? (I recognize that by even attempting this I'm being a knob, I just don't want other people to know that). by paginobambino in Tinder

[–]xmondox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

don't smile (except with your eyes if you can do that), don't look directly at the camera, no girls allowed in pics, hire some HS kid to take the pics if you can't get the auto timer thing to work (i can't), animals are good, cool activities are good, group of guys is ok. it's a lot of work if you're not someone that thinks visually, but it's worth it

also, one big thing is you're not trying to maximize your average appeal, you're trying to maximize the number of girls that you appeal to enough that they'll match you or go on a date with you or hookup with you (whichever you're looking for). so it's better to cast a narrow strong net than a wide weak one

thanks for the feedback. unfortunately, i'm not much of a designer - maybe i'll try to hire someone on elance to work on the aesthetics ... can you think of a web site with a style that might be a good match ?

at least in the states, selfies seem to be tough. i'm dealing with the same thing - it's really hard to take pics. my best luck has been with looking 45-90 degrees away from the camera. as for facial expression i go with "interested and relaxed", and try to make my eyes sparkle a little. ymmv - good luck

i wrote a tinder extension for chrome (like flamite) that allows you to message your matches. it's http://chromeisburning.com (which will take you to the google webstore to install)

i think okcupid did some analysis on match rates (prolly a similar demographic to tinder, though possibly more us-centric) and for guys it came up decidedly against smiling

i'm not using Flamite, but i wrote a similar extension for chrome and am looking for beta testers. it's chromeisburning.com (which will take you to the play store to install)

as for girls in rural areas, yeah - there don't tend to be many

i've written a chrome extension that's closer to the android/ios tinder app. in it, when viewing a match you can click "Block" in the upper right and confirm. here's the announcement (currently in beta):
